Honestly I think it takes care of itself because all these polyamory people strike me as narcissists and attention seekers who don’t care how it effects their kids. Polyamourous relationships are inherently unstable and don’t seem to lead to any more happiness or fulfillment than monogamy, so if it goes bad there’s a lot more collateral damage with multiple people involved. Their children will rebel from their parents chaos and want to practice radical monogamy.

People are fundamentally delusional about being to maintain healthy polyamorous relationships. As long as we live in a heirarachal society - mate guarding will be of the utmost social and biological importance. You can’t socialize away jealousy over a partner.

The biggest benefit is not spreading diseases. As long as people are careful and actually are monogamous (rather than being an relationship and fucking around on the side like we've done for eons), then this is no longer a reason..

The only remaining benefit is the commitment to raising children together. And if people can effectively do this without being together, I say who cares about monogamy?

Less chance of criminal life.

I am not monogamous so I don't want to incentivize monogamy. People who are non-monogamous in consenting relationships should not have access to less than people in them.

That said, marriage does not necessarily require monogamy at all. Nor does having children.

Income tax credits only apply to the custodial parent unless the couple is married then they get double the credits, one per parent.

Student loan forgiveness for getting married.

Student loan forgiveness for the birth mother of x amount per child, unless married then both mother and father get the same amount of forgiveness.

No mandatory court ordered child support unless it's part of a divorce. No single ladies trapping men with happy little accidents.

No spousal support after divorce no matter what lifestyle the person has become "accustomed to". If you're an adult you can get a job.

The lower earning partner's income is only taxed at 1/2 the rate of a single person with the same income.

i don’t think it can and i’m not convinced that it should. it’s not for everyone. i think a better bet is to make birth control as widely available as possible and aim for really great sex ed so people know what they could be in for if they don’t use it properly. not foolproof, of course, but probably a more viable option.

In a recent thread about Jordan Peterson there was discussion of a concept called “enforced monogamy”, which from my understanding meant that society should encourage monogamous long-term relationships.

A large part of this is social. Jordan talks a lot about how cheating is seen as immoral, and how the concept of a relationship as exclusive seems to exist in all cultures. Incels seem to interpret it as a curbing of women's hypergamy, but from what I understand enforced monogamy is mostly invented to prevent men from abandoning women when they become pregnant, and to prevent violent competition between men for women.

A big part of it is that men would have to stop marrying single mothers.

Also both women and men have to make better decisions on who they marry. Which means marrying at a later age. Getting married too young can be a recipe for problems.

One benefit of monogamy is that men don't have to waste tons of time, energy and money trying to be in the top 20%. Because only 20% of men can be in the top 20%. It isn't a realistic goal for the bottom 80%. So those men can focus on more important, pro-social things like career or family. A guy in a monogamous relationship can focus on being a good parent and good husband and good employee, rather than competing in an 80/20 hypergamy environment which would mean him focusing on lifting, learning game and treating his baldness instead. society is better off when men care more about being good fathers and good employees than having 6 pack abs or being 6' tall.

There are many ways, but encouraging slut-shaming is probably one of the largest. Removing feminist legislature like "no fault divorce" and vaginamony would be another start. Also cutting various social programs for single mothers and shelters would force women to marry the well-to-do men rather than get knocked up by bad boys and make society/taxpayers pay the price. In other words, it would be a mix of legislative changes, slut-shaming and removing certain programs. Mostly how things were done in "ye olde days" when feminism didn't exist.

Polygamous societies are inherently more volatile then monogamous ones. Look at early Mormon history and current flds issues for examples.

That said with the current culture I don't think we can incentivise because then we are open to discrimination lawsuits.

I think incentivizing monogamy has a great deal of positive externalities. With stable families, kids grow up to be psychologically well adjusted, peace is kept since everyone keeps to their own, and people tend to feel more comfortable having kids, all of which are important to preserving the future of society. The benefit to society outweighs the cost to individuals.

That said, the best approach is not to disincentivize the behavior you do not want but to incentivize the behavior you want. I think you are on the right track there.

I really think that we need to move away from monogamy, not towards it personally. Monogamy IS the default. And people are deciding it's not for them. Giving tax breaks isn't going to make me date fewer women dude. It's not going to make the women who date me decide they each need their own husband now. People don't work like that in the world.

Having to actually legally incentivize monogamy with things like money just sounds awful and shows how far we have fallen.

Unfortunately we can never go back to how it was in the past so I don't think there's any other choice.
