People get promoted for many reasons other than their own skill! This is really obvious if you've ever had a job. The person who plays softball with the boss, or the person who had kids in the same school, or ... the person who sleeps with the boss... all of them will get preferred treatment. Sometimes it's blatant, but most of the time it's subtle. You have two very good employees and either one could be promoted, so who do you pick? You pick the one that you like.

Sex is just one of the "bribes" used by people to get ahead. It's bizarre how we are all so obsessed with it now.

The title makes it seem as if 15% of women in total have sex with their boss. I cannot think of anything less appealing than sex with anybody at work never mind a boss. I just want to do my time and leave.

let's say we had a hypothetical situation where 3 male bosses had a total of 60 female employees (20 each.) each of those bosses was, at some point, able to seduce 1 or 2 of his female employees. this is all over the course of a few years. the vast majority of those female employees have not slept with their boss, but enough have to show that it's well within the realm of possibility. at least some of them (maybe even most, you won't know til you try) can be seduced.

it stands to reason, as human behavior goes, that the bosses might get more bold or open with their seduction attempts with every woman who's successfully seduced. it also stands to reason this would create an environment that would make the women who have no interest in fucking their boss (or who the boss has no interest in fucking) uncomfortable. they might even be "harassed" if the boss decides to make an ill-conceived move. guys who's egos are being fed don't have the greatest sense of discretion.

I mean you really can’t argue anything against the woman in this case. The boss (man/woman) has the power in the relationship between employees. Even if the sex was consensual you could make a case for sexual harassment simply because the power difference. But what seems to go through everyone’s first thought is “well what was her reason?”. This doesn’t really justify anything but it can show how people convince themselves that something like this is ok. If you convince yourself enough that this job will make you/family/kids life better you justify your immoral actions. Doesn’t make it right but you can see how being put in a stressful situation people can make messed up decisions.

Maybe, the more male-dominated an industry the more likely it is. For instance teachers probably don't face it as much as woman on hard labor, or male hobbies jobs like mechanics.
Because why should consensual sex be talked about in a conversation about non-consensual? A woman who willingly had sex with someone doesn't mean it's okay to force her to have sex again be it with the same partner or another one. This is doubly so for DIFFERENT woman.
Maybe? I could see how it could confuse people, but more then likely the metoo movement or people who are seeing backlash from this movement way over-steeped. It's really never a good idea to try to sleep with someone you have power over, even if they would be willing because it creates a trap for those who would be unwilling. While I can see the fact it works as a reason men and woman in power do it, the larger problem is that they do it at all, regardless of how its received.

Here's the legal reality: virtually all workplaces have a sexual harassment policy. You violate it and the company is justified in firing you. Some companies have policies prohibiting consensual sexual relations between employees, including consensual. You willingly have sex with your boss or a co worker and the company is justified in firing you (I've personally seen this happen).

You don't get to argue you're not accountable for following your company's sexual harassment policies because someone else out there is willingly fucking their boss. This speaks to the worst kind of personal lack of accountability.

If one can't keep their sexual urges under control to follow their company's policy, they should quit and start their own company -- oh wait, there are state laws against sexual harassment. So looks like they're fucked either way (pun intended). Maybe they should find people they who don't work with to bang.

So, now, tell me why you think women willingly sleeping with their bosses contributes to sexual harassment? You need to be clear here why you think these two are related.

The deeper question seems to be: If you're ok with women using sex to acquire power/status/money, why are men with power/status/money seen as evil from using one or more of those things to get sex? It's why the metoo movement originating in hollywood blunted it, at least to me.

Society needs to face it; sexual liberalism is not the free love, everyone-is-happier utopia that it was made out the be in the 70s and is more of a laissez-faire capitalist system for sexually in-demand individuals, usually young women, to leverage their sexuality for personal and professional gain. This behaviour will become progressively more commonplace as people (both women and their bosses) are not held to the societal expectation to keep sex out of the workplace.

The cultural narrative is that sexual advances from powerful/attractive men (like bosses) = okay, sexual advances from peers/ugly men = sexual harassment. It's not much more complicated than that, and bosses who have sex with subordinates will come to regret those actions as soon as they or the employees change companies and the leverage they had over that person is gone, freeing them up to accusations of sexual harassment or assault.

I don't think it's representative of every career or industry. Especially at the rates that they are projecting. I wouldn't be surprised if their assertions were true about Hollywood and the pop music industry.

Because it happens a whole lot, it may represent an aspect of female sexuality that can hurt their narrative, and it's definitely something that is generally a bit taboo, concerning the people involved, for fear of being slapped with a nepotism case.

Well if we were to define meetoo by it's messaging and go beyond the superficiality of it's mission "statements", than yes. Meetoo is the popularization of rape culture theory, which is based in of itself from a radical feminist ideal that asserted; all sex between a man and a woman is an act of terrorism against the women's movement (paraphrasing).

I’ve never personally seen it, but I’m sure it happens enough to women for them to feel justified complaining about it.
Because it’s consensual rather than not consensual. It’s just one of the many possible ways that an employee can gain favor from his or her boss.
Maybe a tiny bit in that certain people might know about consensual workplace relationships that succeeded and then be emboldened to the point of harassment to try to make a subordinate interested in him or her. But I still believe that it’s the individual that is to blame for his or her harassing actions rather than stories about consensual boss/subordinate relationships.

I could write a dozen of hard tomes on why the common-sense rules of ethics don't apply to women. And if sorted by prevalence and impact, workplace affairs would barely make it into tome 9. If we go by pure, distilled reasons - women's unethical behavior doesn't sell. There are people who are dusgusted by the very notion, and there are people who already understand everything anyways; there is an intersection of both categories. None of them are interested in talking about it.

15% seems high, but maybe they dated? I think women sleep with the men who ask them out, and maybe bosses ask out their female employees since it's like a buffet of lower status females. In general I think men can easily ask out lower status females and they will say yes. When it's a boss they should say no though.

Nothing wrong with women sleeping with their boss as long as it's consensual. I don't think we should ban sex in the workplace. Not all boss who sleep with their employees are into some kind of ego trip. Not all female who sleep with their boss do it for promotion. Sometimes people fall in love.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Bosses shouldn't be coercing their employees for sex in exchange for raises/promotion, and employees shouldn't be taking up these offers either.
