I used to rampantly cheat on my ex. I was an excellent liar. I didn’t feel guilty about it until I was caught and saw how hurt he was. I stopped cheating when I started dating my current bf. I don’t cheat because it’s not worth the damage it does to somebody else’s heart, trust, and self worth. Even if the experience is meaningless to you, your loyal partner’s perception of it is out of your control. They may interpret it into something very ugly about the world and themselves. The amount of temporary pleasure I personally derive from cheating is not worth the net damage it brings to the world.

If it were possible to cheat without the risk of anybody ever finding out or it changing my behavior and love for my partner, I think I would be okay with it. But living with constant deceit takes a toll on my conscience whether you acknowledge it or not so I would rather be straightforward with my partner about the possibility of opening things up in a collectively beneficial way. I wouldn’t date somebody who wouldn’t be open to a discussion about non traditional arrangements.

100% honestly: underneath all the nice and valid reasons not to is the thought that it could get me dead. I've never been threatened or even side-eyed about cheating so it's not some implied doom. But I could see it as a very possible heat of the moment outcome just by revealing cheating let alone being caught.
