Let's get a few things out of the way first:

People lie to protect themselves, their egos, and/or their self-image. This is definitely not uncommon at all. That's what lying is for. There is benefit in lying or obscuring the truth - often times far outweighing the benefits of the truth.

That being said, this whole "Women aren't lying about X, Y and Z ~ signed ~ a woman" debate is paradoxical in itself. I have heard it quite a few times, but my experiences outnumber and override that argument to be little more than post-hoc rationalization and an attempt to absolve any lies, half-truths, or r/technicallythetruth's that may have been said.

It's mostly in the security and sanctity of the internet, or around other women/female friends, that women will expose themselves and lay everything on the table. Why? Less threat, less fear of judgement, less risk in doing so. If you're preaching to the choir, you have less to think of because they're all singing the same tune. That all changes, however, when men are involved.

It's no secret that men and women act differently around each other, and that extends to how they speak and what they say. I've spent a large portion of my life observing how people behave because it's been something that I developed an interest in during my socially anxious teenage days as a quiet dude. To deny this would be to also deny things that have already been observed and studied, and confirmed as well.

The only times in my life where I have witnessed or experienced a woman saying exactly what she means, with nothing left up to interpretation or "obvious" assumption, is when she was:

  • angry
  • upset
  • annoyed
  • facing any kind of emotional turmoil

It's also been my experience that women aren't 100% honest with a man unless he checks these two boxes:

  1. She doesn't see him as a man/sexual being
  2. She views him as "harmless," meaning that he is non-threatening and not capable of hurting her in any way, physically or mentally/emotionally (through his opinion or judgement since she doesn't value it).

Which brings us to the crux of the argument: Women do lie if they think that they have to protect themselves, which is almost a given if it involves most men that they are unfamiliar with. Of course, that is seemingly left out because "it should have been obvious." Thus, the accountability of the argument is shifted onto men as simply not understanding the unspoken "obvious" assumptions that are commonly understood by women.

I feel like this needs to be discussed more because so many people are left in the dark or simply made to feel like they're at fault for not knowing. So, what are your experiences?

Edit: for those of you who are *genuinely confused about the topic of this discussion, its lying in the context of dating, as inferred by the post title. We know that men and women lie in different contexts during dating, despite denying that they do so, and there seems to be some confusion on this regarding a recent top post made yesterday. This post is to discuss and clarify the context in which people lie so as to bring to light the fact that, yes, people do lie and are actively lying even if they deny it, and highlighting the purpose of those lies.

Men lie to get women into bed, even if they may not need to, and women lie to avoid certain things, like undesirable men or potentially aggressive behavior from a rejection. These are just a few examples.
