5 years ago I was looking for a therapist. I was given a referral by a doctor whom I trusted completely.

We. Did. Not. Get. Along.

I really wanted it to work out but I found him to be very pushy, dismissive of my concerns and kind of invasive. I fired him after the second session. He was upset, so was the doctor. I literally felt nauseous everytime I spoke to him or thought about him.

Years pass, I mostly forget about it. Found a therapist who was a much better match. Sometimes I still think back when I'm at the doctors. I apologized to her for it not working out with her referral. Said that I had a strong personality and we had a clash.

Imagine my horror when I watch the news & see my former therapist listed as giving a glowing character reference for an already convicted violent rapist.

Y'all, I sobbed. But I'm also grateful to my past self for standing up & firing that mofo without anything "concrete". I think back with horror about how I opened up to him about past trauma.

Trust yourselves. Always. Look out for number one. No one else will have your best interests at heart.
