I’m thinking of all the women on the other side of the fence and are still floundering. All our pickme friends, sisters, coworkers, mothers, etc.

If you’re someone that wasn’t following FDS principles, what moment, or story “clicked” for you to kind of open your eyes about how you’ve been mistreated, or your dating woes, etc?

Perhaps somebody who comes upon this subreddit can read through a list of examples/stories and really connect with the women who are here, fighting for a better future.

I’ll start: I probably saw FDS on front page a few times, maybe a funny tweet or quote got through. I think the one that I remember was this quote (that I even saved in my phone) :

He said, “you are beautiful” I told him “beautiful is a lazy and lousy way to describe me.” - Ijeoma Umebinyuo, Questions for Ada

The reason it struck a cord with me was- as most women are- I was catcalled and inappropriately hit on since I was too young too remember. The number one word I heard parroted by one creepy man to another was that word. It was hard for me to explain to my relationships why it meant nothing to me when they used it, but at least I was honest even then- the word had lost all its meaning, so use a different one, I’d say. It’s only when I saw this that I realized I wasn’t alone. And neither are you. We all deserve better.

So, anyway. I was wondering what was it that made you realize this place could help? Be a safe space? Offer a perspective you were finally willing to believe? That you didn’t want to be a “cool girl” anymore? Recognize that somebody else was going through your exact situation that their story just opened your eyes to yours?
