We don't care about race issues here. The alt-right considers the slow demographic replacement of white people to be an urgent emergency; we don't care about it. We are mostly egalitarian rather than traditionalist, and consider the problems facing men and boys to be an urgent emergency; they're traditionalists and don't care about it.

There's no resemblance, and I have yet to detect an individual who has been part of both groups at the same time. I have heard of one, and only one, individual who used to be one of us, then left in a huff and joined them.

What is giving others this impression?

I was surprised to find that some people consider this a racist sub.

It's a continuation of Hillary Clinton's "Basket of deplorables" tactic: attempt to smear your political opponents by throwing every buzzword you can think of at them and just see what sticks.

It's juvenile and more than anything it highlights that they have no rational, fact-based arguments to use against us. A bit of obviously false name-calling is all they can manage.

The only small concession I'll give them is to note that the men's rights movement depends heavily on freedom of speech in order to make progress towards equality. Feminists, SJWs and other "progressives" have been quite successful at censoring all discussion of men's issues in a number of forums, including at universities and on social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube).

Freedom of speech has become an exclusively right-wing cause today. The Left is adamantly opposed to free speech, especially free speech by MRAs. So you could argue the MRM cause is a little ideologically closer to the Right than the Left for that reason. However, race has nothing to do with it.

No, although there should be nothing wrong about white people recognizing the contributions of Western civilization to the world and the present. If other groups can have pride in their cultural contributions and accomplishments, then I don't understand why Europeans or Euro-Americans cannot also do so, while also recognizing the darker sides of their ancestors' influence, in terms of slavery, imperialism, etc. (which isn't confined to the West). It still kind of reeks of identity politics though.

This is extremely minimally moderated sub. To the extent that racists exist here, it is no different than the proportion on twitter. The topics are obviously male focused. Sometimes the trolls get into the comments, but they get downvoted. I am a rational humanist. Politically I have been an 18 year old anarchist, and rested at democratic socialist at an age of maturity after experimenting with libertarianism. Not Alt-right. No swastika tattoos. I'm awfully liberal to be considered an anything - right. I believe in socialism, universal healthcare, and basic income. I don't think that puts me on the right just because I also think evidence should be required for rape convictions, and want domestic violence shelters widely available to serve male victims, and support a complete overhaul of the child support system.

The notion that this sub is racist comes from the "If you're not with us, you're with the terrorists" way of thinking. So, the people who say this sub is racist, are about as intelligent as George W. Bush.

There are people from all walks of live here (education, age, political leaning). So I won't exclude the possibility that people holding racist views are here.

Are racists frequent on this sub? I'd say no.

Is it required/endorsed to be racist? Also no.

Feminist's scapegoat is the "white man", while they proclaim to be anit-racism and anti-sexism. Let that sink in for a moment.

When I was younger I was a certified leftist.

As I got older and dealt with more leftists I found myself drifting to the center.

Then the last US election went down. I got pushed to center-right because all the identity politics are disgusting, and I got sick of being called Hitler for being against the Clinton dynasty running the White House again, as well as not supporting or even liking Bernie. I wouldn't call myself alt-right by any stretch, but I've been called an alt-right nazi plenty of times for arguing with facts over feelings.

One thing to keep in mind that to a fairly large group of people, everyone they disagree with for any reason is immediately assumed to be and labeled "alt-right".

The number of people who actually consider themselves alt-right is pretty small, and the criteria for being alt-right (basically, desire for a white ethnostate) are pretty specific. The number of people who are accused of being alt-right and the criteria for the accusations range from black liberals to Jewish conservatives to basically anyone who disagrees with a hard-left sympathizer for any reason on any topic.

Actually the MRM is not a counter. Women have been gaining rights steadily for a while, and have surpassed men in privilege. The MRM sought to bring the rights and social freedoms of men up to date with what women were gaining. However, since men once held higher status for being male, people still seem to believe this is a world where women are second-class citizens and still need more support and privilege. It's like the huge women's liberation movement never happened to some people. Absolute fools.

As for being alt-right, racist fucks, no. It's not like that at all. Unfortunately we are home to some disenfranchised folks, those who are forced into fatherhood against their will, some who are treated like living ATMs for children they are alienated from, some unfortunate ones who've been the silent victims of domestic violence without a shelter to seek, others whose coworkers have died on the job due to men's working conditions and the neglect therein, some others who have been falsely accused of sexual misconduct, the many who have been victims of MGM and struggled with ED or lack of sensitivity in that area, the many more who have been raised in a world where "girl power!" is the front page of every magazine, newspaper, or tabloid while the contents of said papers are "men are trash, men are evil", with no support for their struggles, no recognition for the good deeds men commonly achieve and strive for, no one bothering to try and understand those of us who live with testosterone in our blood and what our treatment does to us.

If some of us may seem bitter, if we may say rotten things sometimes, it is not unlike what you might see in an ER. The wounded are often left ugly, angry, depressed, even worse. This is one of the tiny number of places a man can find support and discussion for his troubles, those troubles that only a man will face and the world at large would ignore. So as you enter this place where men and women are welcome to discuss the hardships of men, understand we practice no methods of censorship. The MRM as a movement is censored everywhere it is mentioned, how foolish and unjust we would be to practice what we despise within our own sphere. No, you will instead find that racists, misogynists and other bad folk are allowed to speak their sickly minds here, but they are shut down by the group. We're not the bad guys you're told about. Stop by every now and then, spread the word about us.

I dont consider myself a member of any ideological or political group but i support anyone who meets my expectations in terms of policy. I think you shouldnt be closed off hermeticaly in a single line of thought, most groups are right about something and wrong about something else, but some other group may be right about those other things. Im against moral absolutism, i dont like it when good ideas of people who may have had bad ideas in the past are singled out, just because they may have said something stupid once publicly, so i try to evaluate most ideas.

Some years ago i supported atheism movement (but not atheism+)

i supported anti quackery movement (people like James Randi)

now i support MRAs

as for alt right i dont even know where it starts and where it ends, i think its just a label invented by lefties to label anyone who doesnt agree with them and then and to mix them with nazis and facist in order to destroy their reputations. It is not a racist sub, but someone who wants to think that will, unfortunately, find an ample supply of quotes to mine. People here often complain about the travails of the white straight male demographic. But our focus should be on gender, and we should acknowledge that being white or Asian or straight does indeed bring some kind of privilege - but being male does not.

This is a radical notion for both the right or the left. In fact, it epitomises what feminism claims to champion: men overcoming the constraints of their gender role to speak out about the problems they face as a group rather than keep mum and project strength and think about suicide. This makes everyone uncomfortable, as we can see when media dismisses even heart-rendering concerns as whining or reactionary scheming to disempower women. Not only feminism, or the left: everyone, including avowed anti-feminist that come at the issue from a tradcon angle.

In fact, can we even think of any traditional right wing policy, apart from market liberalism (arguably as much a domain of the left by now), that benefits men? Harsh sentencing, tolerance towards police violence, traditional views of family in divorce, intolerance towards weak or victimised men - all are features of the right wing. It was the right wing that saw people being sent away for life for rape, that imposed punitive child support and alimony payments based on simplistic moral judgments, that cut mental health funding and drove hundreds of thousands of men into homelessness, and that kept two men who love each other from marrying and adopting children for a shamefully long time, and that want to close borders to refugees (almost always men; the few women that come benefit from quotas). All terrible for men, especially the less fortunate among us.

The only thing that would bind MRM and the right wing together is, to my mind, a visceral abnegation of the left - or let us say the radical left (the centrist, intellectual left we barely see - why nuance when you can read polarising screeds that confirm your beliefs). That is not much of a platform to stand on.

I think the SLOP (self reported on-line poll) we had last suggested demographics similar to Reddit as a whole except more gay men. More men than women too but not that much different from the way Reddit as a whole is.

The spectrum here runs from Libertarian (lots of those) through to communist. Tradcons (traditional conservatives) are seen almost as bad as feminists (who are just a particularly nasty kind of tradcon).

The alt right are scum and their ideology is fundamentally mutually exclusive with being an MRA. While our focus is men, we are ultimately an equality movement. Regardless of race, sex, sexuality, religion (or lack thereof) all people should share equal protection and responsibility under the law.

I'm mostly on the left I guess, though dislike all the terms since they're divisive and serve no purpose in my mind. Since usually when they're used, it's to dismiss people off hand simply for being in the "other". And this applies to anybody, regardless of affiliation.

I'd rather just talk about the issues than where they fall on some arbitrary chart. Let's focus on the issues, not "left vs right". But no. You said something I disagree with so you're "the other", therefore bad.

People say it, then other people read it take it at face value, then say it themselves. Repeat process. That's how these things work. People don't really want to verify if someone is actually racist/sexist/whatever. They'll just dismiss them outright as bigots, because people don't like bigots.

If you ever read articles about how "sexist, racist, anti-gay" whatever the MRM in general is, then you'll notice a trend of vague accusations. "A popular MRA forum", but no link or mention of what that "MRA" forum is so nobody can actually see if it's true. Or citing completely different group's actions as the "MRM", like Return of Kings who is anti-MRM. And say as such on their site's about section, they have multiple articles [last I looked] about why they don't like the MRM. Or PUAs, or MGTOW, or just any man in general.

Basically any man that does anything they dislike is labeled an "MRA".

I don't even consider myself a MRA, but talk about these issues. And on a show's sub on here, somebody parroted the wage gap myth and I pointed out that it's false and why it's false. And I got "Your Men's Rights is showing" as a response. As if men's rights has anything to do with why the wage gap myth is false. It's just a way to dismiss an argument and person.
