A lot of women, however, complain that men today are too passive, too weak, and don't actively pursue them. There are some women who are unfortunately unattractive, or feel unattractive, and wish that men would approach them.

You know... I'd ordinarily complain about I'm not very sympathetic to anyone who asks a total stranger out when they're on duty at a job that puts them in a position of power over the person they're asking out that makes it easy for them to retaliate against them if they get rejected.

An on-duty TSA agent doing this is no different from a cop asking a driver out during a traffic stop, or a doctor asking a patient out before a surgery, or a judge asking a defendant out during a trial. It's unprofessional, inappropriate, and regardless of your actual intentions your position of power creates a reasonable fear of retaliation.

Let's play devil's advocate:

For a young, even just average looking woman, life in society is very different than for a comparable man. You are constantly getting hit on. In clubs and places like that, it's so much you never get a break if you're not with a man who is obviously your partner.

Now sure, that's generally a positive thing and I'm certain that no woman would prefer the male experience if she ever got a glimpse of it. But something you have in such abundance is inevitably not appreciated (men would be the same) and your standards rise too (again, this is a human trait). So all you're left with is quite a lot of increasingly irritating encounters. Some people are harder to get rid of than others. And yes, it does get scary when you're out on the streets and a bunch of (sometimes drunk) guys make a pass at you. Even trying to be nice about saying "no" can be interpreted as playing hard to get so with some guys you have to be really direct just to be clear - and being so direct is not something women are typically in the habit of doing (for whatever reason).

/devil's advocacy

So I do empathize and, to an extent sympathize with the problems women face (though not the one in the OP), what sorely lacks in this conversation is a shred of empathy for the male experience. I think if women (or anyone) had a choice between the two, they'd go for women's experience every time.

Also, girls, if you think your life is so bad because guys keep hitting on you, I have a simple solution that will fix that for you: Shave your head and dress down. You're welcome.

Aside from numerous other issues, the high rate of divorce, and the results on men's lives, are very good reasons for men to re-think the whole notion of marriage. Don't marry them, don't live with them, don't have children with them.

It's SO unfair. I'm a woman who actually WOULD come up to a man if I liked him, but if a man likes me, and I don't know him, I'd be fine if he approached me. Maybe we'd end up together, or maybe I'd hate him and we'd end up going on our seprarate lives, or maybe we'd just be friends, and these three are equally likely to happen, so it'd be pretty likely that one of these three would happen, or maybe he'd attack me and I'd have to call the cops, which is extremely unlikely.
