Haven't Men been trying to shed light on these issues some going so far as to bankrupting themselves and in a few cases literally setting themselves on fire on the steps of the family courts to get attention??

[+][deleted] -18 points-17 points-16 points 9 years ago (48 children) | Copy Link

If you set yourself on fire you definitely should not have the custody of children.

[–]CurtisAxelmania 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (46 children) | Copy Link

A guy driven to do that by dehumanization isn't necessarily like that when he is initially evaluated.

Your argument sounds like if I torture a guy so he has crying fits and wets himself at the slightest noise, that behavior means he should never have been a father.

To me it just means he should never have been mistreated.

[–]Mens-Advocate 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly - Thomas Ball was tortured by the system.

[+][deleted] -21 points-20 points-19 points 9 years ago* (44 children) | Copy Link

Oh please, get a grip.

If you lose a court case and thereafter set fire to yourself and then try to suggest what happened to you was like being tortured then you're a fuckwit.

Don't get me wrong it's understandable that fuckwits lose court cases and, no doubt the court system has favoured mothers.

Although unless you can show in your particular case that the mother is unfit then why shouldn't she win? Short of cutting children in half if you have 2 good parents then the kids live with one. Either way it's "unfair" to one of them but equally doesn't really matter which parent "wins"

Most of the way divorcing parents behave shows they are not fit to have kids. I speak from the point of view of the real victim - having once been one of the kids the 2 cunts are fighting over. And, trust me here, the self-pity and nonsense they demonstrate throughout isn't reflected in the way they treat their kids ime. They are more interested in their kids in their public protestations and court submissions than they are actually interested in their when they actually have the kids with them.

And most of what they are waffling about the other one supposedly did or didn't do isn't true or is just twisted in a way to make the other sound bad. Albeit if you want 18 years of 2 people telling you exactly why your parents are cunts then wait for your parents to divorce because it's a subject they love to share with you. Impressionable kids will probably end up believing both. "dad did this....mum did that...dad said this...mum said that" Not to mention the spiteful and jealous way they act if, say, you're going on holiday with dad or spending a christmas with mum.

So yeah, I think my parents shouldn't have been parents - and most definitely shouldn't have married each other and had kids - and neither of them can pretend to be surprised how the other one behaved because it was self evident in the rows and dramas they had before they got married or had kids. But they did it anyway.

And my parents were divorced in the UK at a time when there was no question other than my mother got custody - but that was no better or worse a decision than the reverse. You can't just say "it's not fair" - because it's a decision that can't be fair by definition.

[–]KingCavell 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

can't be fair by definition.

Uh, it's called shared parenting. Every single study on the subject shows it's better for the kids, the father and even the mother (!). Yet it is strenuously opposed by NOW, the largest feminist organization in the world.

[–]Mashiki 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link

If you lose a court case and thereafter set fire to yourself and then try to suggest what happened to you was like being tortured then you're a fuckwit.

No. It means that the person sees no other way to bring attention to the injustice that they've suffered at the hands of the state, law, and so on. That said state under the social contract is to treat all members in a civil way, has failed in doing so, and in some cases others cheer at what's happened to them. And believe that said suffering, even at the loss of their life is an acceptable choice.

It's no different then some poor person who's been fighting workmans comp for 20 years, hasn't worked once in 20 years, has been living on the charity and support of friends and family and simply snapping one day at wits end and driving their car through one of their buildings.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 9 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

It means that the person sees no other way to bring attention to the injustice that they've suffered

Yes, like I said, a fuckwit. Set fire to yourself to see what happens if you're still unsure.

[–]Mashiki 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

Time to grow up kid. The world and peoples responses to it are far more interesting then you think it is.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (36 children) | Copy Link

I had plenty of time to grow up because I didn't set fire to myself, "kid"

Ironic that so many American men think calling someone kid is belittling or an insult. Especially when culturally they are emotional spastics and more like big kids when it comes to dealing with these issues than any other nation. As this subreddit full of "boo fucking hoo poor me self pity" is testament to.

It says it all really. Maybe if you all didn't have such an obvious low opinion of children you'd get custody of them, grandpa.

There's nothing interesting about setting fire to yourself. It's just a dumb, stupid and weak thing to do in response to losing a court case. And, as you can see from people equating this to torture and your own nonsensical replies it's because of an emotionally crippled, histrionic culture.

Get a fucking grip.

[–]Mashiki 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

And there you go again, missing the point of "why" kiddo. It's one of those things you learn with life experience.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (34 children) | Copy Link

Nah, growing old didn't teach you anything. You're just old and dumb instead of young and dumb. A bright 12 year old was more intelligent than you when you were 12 and bright 12 year olds will still be when you're 90.

Even Judge Judy realises you're all losing your cases because you're dumb.

All you've achieved is getting closer to grey hair, wrinkling skin, failing eyesight, worsening hearing, impotence, incontinence, cancer, diabetes and death. Congratulations, grandpa, you got old.

Like I said, your "kid" and "kiddo" just shout out loud that your children would be better off with their mothers. You clearly have issues with children so much that you use the mere idea of being a child as a pathetic attempt to insult other people. Then you wonder why a court might think that "kiddos" would be better off with someone else.? Well, doh, you dumb cunt. Wake the fuck up.

There's nothing wrong with being a kid. Kids are, generally speaking, fit and healthy and have their whole lives in front of them. Try fucking harder.

[–]CurtisAxelmania 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can we get a name here? Something tells me whatever immolation dad we are talking about probably lost a series of court cases and probably had his life Falk apart a lot of other ways. Can we get a name for the mom and evidence if how fit she is?

I agree with your overall point and wish the mods would crack down on the /r/TumblrInAction posts here. However, once a post starts getting steam it's up to /r/all how high it gets. 90% of the votes for the top-30 posts came from /r/all not us, so this sub can't be completely blamed for them being the top (although it is of course our fault for putting it to /r/all in the first place)

[–]The_Lone_Fish17 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Couldn't agree more. Well feminism often does impede men's rights and should be called out on those occasions, the main reason i joined this sub was to talk about and listen to actual mens issues and how to solve them. Whining about some nobody on social media doesn't help any man with a legitimate issue.

[–]theothermod 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can join the discussion about other issues, or start one yourself. Our sub caters to a wide range of topics and interests - posting some doesn't exclude posting others.

[–]Jodasons878 points 9 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Agreed, my bad...apologies.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad and appreciate that you can recognize the mistake. Kudos for that.

I'm a MGTOW and I have more than my fair share of opinions/views that are anti-PC. I'm one of the last people to complain about "offensive language"...

But at the same time... I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the Men's Rights movement and I never push my MGTOW beliefs (Well, maybe a little but only to educate men on how dangerous it is to get married or have kids in today's society and the vulnerable position it puts them in to be fucked over by the state) or use our terminology here on this sub. I never want to do something that would undermine all the efforts that MRA's do in order to try and help men and fix these serious issues. I don't want to be responsible for delegitimizing the movement and cause other people to turn away from Men's Rights simply because of derogatory terminology like calling people "cucks"...

I think part of going down the MRA route means holding yourself to a higher standard than just going MGTOW or posting on our own subs. MRA's and this sub have to be accountable for the things that are said/posted here. They have to be very cautious about the public perception.

One of the biggest issues the Men's Rights movement faces is all the misleading propaganda that Feminists push in order to pant the MRM as vile, woman hating, bigots... They attack the movements character in order to try and delegitimize all the issues we talk about. That's a problem because men face some serious discrimination in our society and we should all try to be helping the movement succeed... Not giving feminists more ammo to use against us.

But again, thanks for admitting the mistake and promising to be more aware about that in the future.

PS. I think one of the main reasons you've pissed so many people off here isn't just because you used the term.. But because you referred to all of us here as "cucks"... Like, many of these guys have devoted their lives and spend all their free time fighting to help men and bring awareness to these issues. Many of these guys have been put through hell all in their efforts to help men everywhere. So for you to refer to them as "cucks" in your title, simply because there hasn't been enough results "in your opinion"... Well, it was pretty shitty.

Again, not trying to lecture you or run this shit into the ground.. just offering my opinion as to why so many people here are pissed off and offended by it.

Anyways, this picture is something that gets reposted here every so often.. but it's a really good quote and a nice source because She is such a recognizable figure for many people.. so thanks for posting it.

[–]Jodasons875 points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

So for you to refer to them as "cucks" in your title, simply because there hasn't been enough results "in your opinion"... Well, it was pretty shitty.

Dude, I was saying it from the hip...I mis-spoke and used the wrong term...that's it that's all...

I too fight for men's rights, and the rights of my sons who are adult men now and bear the brunt to all of this.

I have paid quite a price both socially and professionally by standing up for my views, men's rights, whenever it is called for...I for one am not going to be silent.

...I think one of our biggest challenges is men who do not stand up.

Weak men make it harder on the rest of us and our society in general...

So, anyway man, let's be guys...and do what we do best.

Someone screws up - he gets called on it - he apologizes, perhaps learns (or just messed up) - and everybody moves on, the wiser...

Cheers,

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey man, I completely agree with everything you said.. also, you don't have to explain yourself or your credentials to me.. Just the fact that you are here posting and trying to bring awareness to these issues speaks for itself how much you care about the movement.

I just wanted to comment to let you know that I respected the fact that you apologized instead of getting all defensive and doubling down on the whole issue like some of these other guys (which is really disappointing IMO).. It really speaks a lot to your character.

That's the main reason I replied to you.. Not to try and kick you when you're down or anything like that.. but to commend you for your efforts and your positive attitude while taking the criticisms.

Anyways, keep on fighting the good fight brother. cheers

This. I am browsing this sub because I am concerned that men are getting steamrolled by the PC train, but I don't really want to join forces with a bunch of misogynists or the_donald rejects.

[–]DipsetUniversal 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You aren't ready, you still view the world based on what they tell you to be true.

[–]ButtermanJr 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Who are they? Here, let me get you a "I ain't a part of your system!" starter pack. It's a shame that a lot of people with the potential to enact meaningful change will be scared away from the sub because of counter-productive content.

[–]DipsetUniversal 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's a shame that you are so triggered by mere words. You are a coward.

[–]ButtermanJr -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Take a break from the internet once in a while. I'm not exactly sure what "triggered" means, but I'm pretty sure it does not describe someone who chooses not to be associated with a bunch of guys with "little-man" syndrome trying desperately to prove their manliness to the world. I'm not saying everyone in the sub matches that -- I'm sure it was started with good intentions, then internet happened.

The word "Cuck" has been popularized by the alt-right, T_D, and /pol/. So yeah, it does.

[–]Oftowerbroleaning 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or are we being co-opted by the leftist and feminist now because that somehow legitimizes us?

[–]norrata -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, who cares about the left or feminists. The only problem is that groups known to incite hate use the word. It's like the kkk calling asians piss, and then us using that.

More like maybe I underestimated the T_D influence on the sub and had to reevaluate whether I still wanted to bother keeping up with it. I rarely ever post here, my leaving isn't going to knock over anyone's sand castle. Y'all would be fine.

And the best way to legitimize people's assumptions about MRAs.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I am reposting a new message, because this brigaded top thread is absolutely embarassing self-humiliation, no matter how popular it appears to be.

MRAs have been unfairly denigrated by perception control for ages, yet you guys at the top fall hook, like and sinker for this beta-male language policing.

It's demonstrating exactly the problem that OP brought up. It's absolute cuckoldry. If you dance to the anti-MRA tune, you die to it.

[–]jostler57 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't think I've ever seen that word before... is it shorthand for cuckold, or something?

[–]CurtisAxelmania 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Basically yeah. Although in an even broader sense.

Cuckoos: kill your eggs, trick you into raising theirs

Cuckolded: your wife is impregnated by another man, you raise the children as your own without knowing

Cuckold fetishism: grossly misuses the term to represent guys who encourage their wives to sleep with other men. Completely ignores the root being about deception/childrearing.

Cucks: basically a.neogism used to insult people in the friend zone who solidify their place with pandering to women to the point of embarrassment. Becoming.tools, the implied assumption being the ones they pine for are opting to sleep with less pandering men.

This is at least somewhat closer to the root meaning than the fetish porn. The concept meaning a waste of resources toward something which does not benefit you but does benefit a competitor.

The strange thing about his this is currently so gendered (still yet to see women called cucks, would be investing) is that presumably it would be the mother bird who spends most of the time raising the cuckoo imposter.

[–]ajax1101 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How could you be on reddit since before The_Donald became a thing and never see the word cuck?

[–]jostler57 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't really care to subject myself to bad subs.

[–]Muesli_nom 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Having an idea what other people think is generally not a bad thing. You don't have to agree with it, but going "Finger in your ears, lalala" only works as long as the people you are ignoring cannot affect you. I kept an eye on various subs whose focus I did not necessarily agree with before the last presidential election, and found myself in the position of going "Why is media so unilaterally calling it for Clinton, running with 90+ percentages of chances of her winning? I don't see it. For me, it's too close to call." And we all know how that went down.

Now, that doesn't mean I have to dig into such subs until my eyes bleed and my will to live fails me (certain subs manage to get me into rotten "that's it, no more reddit for today, humanity deserves to fail" mood in minutes...). But having a first-eyes glance about what people think saves me from having to trust someone else reporting it to me - and possibly horribly failing in that.

[–]iongantas 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've pretty much only ever seen people referring to other people using this term. I can't recall that I've actually seen it used.

[–]Badgerz92 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. It's used as a synonym for "beta"

[–]neoman4426 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suppose if the person was an actual one (probably just in the fetish sense rather than the unwittingly raising someone else's kid sense, no need to add insult to injury) it could be somewhat okay, but outside of a discussion where that's relevant it would still be pretty weird to call someone

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are most certainly a feminine in the worst sense, of being controlling and manipulative.

Wow, what a wimp you are, my case, unbelievably narcissistic and feminine.

You still don't get it. The MRM is about removing the pressures men face to be masculine and dominant. That's why words like "cuck" and "beta" aren't popular here. Because let's say I was a feminine wimpy cuck... so what? Why does that matter? If you're looking for a place that forces men to conform to strict traditionalist ideas of what a "real man" should be, the Men's Rights Movement is not it.

I'm scraping the bottom of the /r/all barrel but this makes this subreddit look pretty bad. I say that as an outsider though. Just wanted to give some non-subbed, non-the_donald perspective.

[–]Herpinator1992 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its not all bad. There are some pretty legitimate posts on the sub. But like any group you get a bunch mouth breathers that think its cool to be edgy and completely miss the point. Doesn't help with the influx from all the donald users either. Wish they'd go to the red pill instead.

As a subscriber I'm ashamed of this post. We just also pride ourselves as a minimal censorship sub too.

Give 'cuck' a chance! I don't love its use in the title of this post, but it's a useful word.

"Cuck" is basically an updating of the word, "schnook," made relevant by our political moment. It refers to people who allow themselves to be taken advantage of, particularly by others abusing their good intentions.

For example, "Tell me your perspective. I want to learn from you. ... Oh, your perspective is that I was born a no-good shitlord. Ok, I will now believe that about myself."

Powerful words like this don't get invented every day, and we shouldn't throw it away.

In my eyes, it's a word that is used as such, but at the same time, it seems to be used by a specific kind of people (immature trolls that are out much more to get a rise out of you than to get a discussion going), making it a signal that "If someone uses 'cuck', you can safely discard whatever they say".

Kind of like most people tune out when someone insults them as "cis-het" or "fucking white MALE!", or uses "hetero-normative patriarchy" unironically: Sure you know what they mean, but by the words they're using they also tell you that you best not take them seriously, because all you do is waste your time.

[–]TheCoyPinch 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure that was the intent, but it gives a bad reputation to everyone involved.

[–]CurtisAxelmania 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't like the excessive concern on how our bantr gives us rep.

Same kinda reasoning would say we can't playfully call each other faggots. I don't want that taken away.

Speak your mind. Tell me to "do it faggot" or "can it cuck" if you like. One cool thing about male culture is our brash forthright criticisms. A nice contrast to the couched insults women often are in the habit of.

[–]Smallpaul 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Denigrating gay men, liberal men and traditionalist conservatives is not "speaking your mind." It is dividing the movement and therefore weakening it. I guess you are also in favor of white men using the n-word? It's just "bantr" amiright?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Like, oh my god, what a fucking faggot.

But, seriously, I miss being able to just call someone a faggot because they're being a faggot. It's like, to a certain generation faggot doesn't mean "gay", it just means somewhere between "dumbass" and "asshole".

As for "n-word", I'm honestly sick and tired of nigger being an unacceptable word for ANYONE TO SAY EVER unless they are "black enough". It's some weird sort of racist logic; it's okay for one color person to do something, and not okay for another.

It's either never OK to say nigger, or it's always OK (if crass and incredibly rude) to say nigger. You can't have it both ways.

[–]tobasoft 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this guy fucks.

[–]CurtisAxelmania 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I take back vocabulary. Gay and Faggot have pre-homosexualerotic usage. To mock excessively burdensome or happy behaviors does not denigrate men attracted to men.

Not sure what you mean by liberals or traditionalist conservatives. Latter the "cuckservative" word? Denigrating panderers is fine to me.

I am fine with anyone using nigger. Context matters more than what a word is.

Substituting " n word" is exactly the kind of move that would fit the stereotype. So petrified of black violence you tiptoe around it. Why not just say "racial slurs"? What is so special about nigger that you can't say it but we don't use "k word" for like or "s word" for slick?

The problem is when we do namecalling to insult others. That is just as much a problem with things like "creep" or "deadbeat" or "mansplainer" or "misogynist" or "pervert". Or even "rapist" for that matter. Insults arent only a problem if inherently unfair, but also ones with useful applications if applied unfairly.

[–]Jodasons871 points 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Regnes 30 points31 points32 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Judge Judy is a very smart woman when you listen to her speak. She was also a family court judge before her show went on the air, she has seen it all, she knows what's up.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Well, no. She's just juxtapositioned on TV with people that are dumb even by America's low standards and in a position where she just shouts anybody down if someone with a valid point or argument slips through a researcher's net. Especially if that argument differs from whatever JJ has decided is the truth sans any actual evidence.

"YOU DID LIE!"
"Err, no I didn't"
"LET ME SHOUT AGAIN IN A BOSTONIAN ACCENT - YOU STOLE THE BEANS!"
"Err, I'm the cameraman"
"SHUT UP!"

[–]Regnes 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I mean outside of her show. I've watched interviews with her. Her book is a good read.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

But she chooses to do her show.

If she were playing the fool in Shakespearean dramas, or had a job as a clown in a circus then, fair enough, I would accept the premise that she isn't the person she depicts.

But JJ is premised upon her entire career and personality. She's supposedly being a judge - supposedly the cases are real - supposedly the judgements are real. And she's constantly saying during the show how intelligent she believes herself to be, in spite of the pantomime that unfolds in her "courtroom"

And, on that basis, she's a buffoon, like I said, in a room full of bigger buffoons. There's no suggestion she is playing a part or that it's a fictional drama.

If she wanted me to believe that, actually, in spite of her show, she's an intelligent woman whose legal opinions have been thought through and should carry some weight, well, she's done the wrong fucking day job for 2 decades.

More to the point here, if she was a family court judge and felt that in that position she could have made use of gender-neutral posture in her decision making then wouldn't she have been better doing that for the past 20 years instead of making farcical television shows?

That alone suggests she's not very smart. Rich, perhaps, but not smart. How much was her credibility worth? Google suggests $45 million a year since 2010, so, yeah understandable perhaps.

But, there's a guy doing a UK version, who isn't a judge, he's a barrister but he at least manages to come across as an intelligent, erudite, reasonable and sane human being on the few shows I've watched. Maybe that wouldn't sell.

edit: Wikipedia suggests during her actual career "She earned a reputation as a "tough" judge (though she has disagreed with the labels "tough" and "harsh") known for her fast decision-making and acerbic wit." which to me suggests that the nonsense we see on TV isn't anything other than her true personality and dumb decision making based upon fuck all. "I think you're right and I'm the judge...so there!" and this quote is really telling men that it's not her fault Judge's are shit, it's their fault for not "getting it together"

[–]bulboustadpole 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Her show isn't fiction, the decisions she makes are legally binding. She's not acting in the capacity of a judge, but a legal arbitrator.

[–]LethiasWVR 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They are legally binding, but the findings are also predetermined, and basically a settlement.
My dad's wife went on the show once, as a witness for her sister about some nonsense regarding her dog and a neighbor's yard, and basically was told "We'll fly you out to CA, you'll be on the show, we'll pay all your legal expenses, but you agree that you will lose the case to the following decision"
So basically, the case is a real civil case in progress, they pick it, render the decision, then invite the involved parties to the studio if they agree to the settlement that was prearranged for the taping. The studio even pays for the cost of the judgement.

[–]bulboustadpole 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't buy the whole prearrangement deal. If you watch the show, both parties are clearly fighting to win as each side knows it could mean a payout in addition to the appearance fee they receive. Multiple interviews of people who've been on the show and worked on the show points to the fact that the arbitration is done in real time by Judge Judy and the parties sign a contract before appearing letting her make a decision. Another good example of how it's not decided before going on is she actually overstepped her bounds and made a ruling pertaining to custody/visitation. They took her decision to court and won, but obviously had that decision been made before appearing on the show the people never would have flown down to appear.

[–]LethiasWVR 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't matter to me what you buy or not, but two members of my family were on the show, and unless their experience is a complete fabrication, they say it went down like this:
The defendant, who was in the middle of preparing an actual civil case related to her dog and a neighbor, received a letter in the mail from the studio saying basically
"Your case has been selected for a taping of Judge Judy. If you agree to appear, the studio will pay for the travel costs and accommodations for yourself and one guest/witness. The decision will be found in favor of the plaintiff, with damages in the amount of $X, which will be paid by the studio."
My aunt signed the thing, sent it back, and a few weeks later she and her sister were flying to CA with tickets purchased by the studio. When they got there, they were coached on how to act and some possible points to raise during the proceedings. The taping happened, everything played out, they came home.
Regarding the appeal you mention, just because something was decided before the taping does not mean that it is correct or that an appeal could not be won. If the decision is a legal ruling, then regardless of how or when it happened, it could be appealed. As far as I know, no part of the signed documentation forbids an appeal, and even if it did, I doubt that would hold up in court.
Regarding why people would fly out if the decision was already rendered, especially in the case you site, part of the agreement specified that they needed to be present for the taping in order to get any of the benefits, and I think it was probably a better deal to fly out on the studio's dime and appeal it later than it would have been to fight the whole case out of pocket, for either party.
In my aunt's case, I suspect for her it was a win/win. She could either stay home and fight the case in her own town with her own money, or she could have what she saw as a free weekend getaway to LA, skip out on all the court costs, and have the studio pay the damages instead of herself. Plus, if there's one thing I learned from their experience, it's that some people will do almost anything to be on TV.
Now all that said, it's possible that my aunt's "what's your dog doing on my lawn?" and similarly small cases are handled differently by the studio than something with higher stakes(you mentioned custody/visitation). I don't know anything about the case you cite, and literally everything I know about Judge Judy I know from the experience of my aunt relating the story of her experience, which happened about two years ago.

So, let me get this straight. Both houses of Congress in the US have an Ethics Committee because it looks REALLY bad when the DoJ or FBI come in and clean house for them. It is really a sham, but hey, at least they are doing something.

Similarly the Judiciary is supposed to police its own - independent branch of government and all.

But somehow Judge Judy has decided it is MY fault that family courts which the Supreme Court fully sanctioned as acting as Courts of Equity and not Courts of Law somehow became corrupt as fuck???

Talk about passing the buck. Yes, we could in theory stage a revolt, but you can guess how that will work out. If major corporations and Attorneys General cannot clean up the Eastern District of Texas - Federal do you REALLY think "Dads" can "get it together" and clean up family court?

[–]Badgerz92 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Dads are voters. And some of them are even judges. If most dads joined MRAs in supporting equal rights for fathers, then it would get cleaned up.

[–]AnotherDAM 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you have looked too deeply at human nature. Voters replace the old corrupt guard and for the bat of an eye there is hope. And then the new guard is slowly corrupted.

Perhaps you naively think that the castle doctrine still holds. Hopefully you will never shoot a police officer who, acting on bad information, breaks into your house with a dubious warrant. It used to be called "self defense", now it will get you in jail if you manage to survive long enough to make it to jail.

Or, how about alimony reform in Florida? It had profound, majority support - champions in the legislature. Did your theory hold true? Did it happen? No. Because a very powerful minority just didn't give a shit how many people supported it.

[–]ThirdTurnip 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Shit generally doesn't get better all on it's own. Shit typically happens because someone gains an advantage from that shit happening and will be very keen on it continuing.

Judy hasn't said it's men fault that this shit is happening. Judy said it's up to us to organise and put a stop to it.

[–]AnotherDAM 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So it is up to us to take responsibility? Sounds a whole lot like "it is your fault" to me. Think you are splitting hairs, I do.

[–]ThirdTurnip 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Choosing to fix a problem doesn't make you responsible for its genesis.

We don't live in a fair or just world. It's dog eat dog. Or in this case, woman eat man.

I have seen this quote before and I think that both Judge Judy and the person who used the word "cuck" in the title are blissfully unaware that there have been groups such as the National Parenting Organization (formerly Fathers and Families) that have been working for years to rectify the problem with family and divorce courts.

There are two things at play here. One is that there is an entire establishment comprised of lawyers and gender ideologues who are hell bent on removing fathers from the lives of their children that has been in operation for decades now and has the full weight of the state behind it. Secondly, there is the tradcon factor that says if you are a man you should act like one and if you dare complain about how you got screwed in family court than it is an indication that you didn't have enough game when dealing with your ex or that you are just a whiny little bitch (cuck) for having your kids stolen from you.

Every time I see the word "cuck" in this sub I think of a man sporting a mullet and a small penis who thinks that just by calling other men who have had their lives ripped apart by this establishment "cucks" that he is more of a man than they. "If you weren't such a 'cuck' this would never have happened!" As if they have some sort of magic about them that immunizes themselves from the institutional discrimination against men and fathers. They will accomplish nothing.

Ahhh, here he is. The "real man" come to spout pejoratives in the hopes that it will make his penis will grow and that somehow it will make people like his hair.

I think it's you that has been "outed" here; you are harbouring some serious shit, and may or may not be 14.

Well if you've been defrocked, have you considered a tattoo with a suitable message - in the original Gaelic?

[–]roharareddit 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What does that translate to?

I find it hard to believe that's actually quoted from her lol. She is sexist as fuck on her show.

[–]Mallago 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eh, not really, she's quite fair from what I've seen. Do you have any examples? Plus, you know the show is completely scripted and none of the names and cases are real, right?

[+]deathdragon5858 -30 points-29 points-28 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't really care enough to go look for examples to be honest. They are real small claims cases though.

[–]roharareddit 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yea, holding women responsible is sexist.

[–]deathdragon5858 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, what I mean is, when I would see a case that was a guy's word against a lady's word, she seemed to grill the guy more as if he was the liar. Acted more sarcastic toward the guy. That kind of thing.

[–]roharareddit 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are right she has done that from time to time but she gives it to the girls too. One time I saw her verbally ripping a woman a new one for lying about domestic violence.
