Copying across my post from TiA on the subject: Having just went to watch it and gone in there totally expecting it to be a shitfest from what I'd heard. Dreading it even?

Nope, its a fantastic movie, Max spends about 20 minutes at the start chained up while they set everything up (Starting was a touch rushed, 10 more minutes or him being more involved could have helped it) They share the main role, the Mad Max movies have always been more the story of a place and a people than one man, exploring the world as much as anything. Amazon warriors? It happens, yeah, but there are also women in it who are fairly helpless, when it is shown like that its women who've lived with the waste as much as the men and are more shown as hard because they have lived hard lives rather than because womyn stronk, men weak.

Last one (That point on TiA being 'are the women totally idealized and perfect in every way while all men are pig monsters who deserve to die'.)? To a point but not really. They're shown as good hearted yes but only compared to the megalomaniac chasing them, they don't have any moments of obvious perfection and being out and out better people, they're also shown as terribly naive, even CT utterly cocks it up and then goes with an over idealistic plan which Max has to reign back in. On the other hand you also have noble men in it, Max for one and even one of the classic rampaging bandits is shown as redeemable. Imagine that, a disposable male character is shown as being used as such by his superiors and its actually treated in the same sort of light as women being used as breeders, both are shown as victims of their 'master'. There was one part that made me utterly roll my eyes (Its the part with the chastity belts) but its a fairly well balanced movie and Max is certainly the main character.

It's less man vs women and more exploiter against those who don't want to be enslaved, tyrant against free man, so on and the main villain is exploiting naive young men as well as women, so he's more a tyrant than a woman hating pig or any other heavy handed message sending archetype. Could throw in a big post here about how the first three movies were like, the ultimate masculine positive series, with Max being shown through the movies as a kinda weird inversion of the whole maiden-mother-crone thing women get, showing the three great positive archetypes of man but really its not necessary since all that needs to be said is that its just a good Mad Max movie. 10/10, would go into expecting painfully heavy handed feminist propaganda only to be pleasantly surprised again.

I probably will wait a week and hit a matinee showing. Gotta hit it in the theaters at least. I say this because I don't have a killer home system. If I want to think about and absorb a show, then I wait to watch it at home. I go to theaters for special effects, not plot.

I may not see it, mostly because Hollywood films tend to compensate lack of originality for more explosions. Moreover, in alignment with ROK, there is nothing more unrealistic and unbelieveable than an female action hero that's a replicia of guys like Stallone, Arnold, and Van Damme - really reminds me of that feminist Superbowl commercial.

Female tokenism in Hollywood films is about the only thing updated from the original films that modern Hollywood constantly rehashes due to lack of originality.

I think it's important that we upvote this post. This is not the first time the media has conflated the MRM with PUAs and Red Pillers (whether it's a concerted effort or not I can not say). I plan to see this movie as well and I'm not deterred by the presence of strong female characters and I doubt many here would say any different.

Here's how I'd break it down. Feel free to correct me if you think I've got anything wrong.

The Red Pill

Red Pillers want to say that they've "woken up" to the reality. Unfortunately, their view of reality often tends towards misogynistic and pro-gender role

They focus a lot on what they call "the game," defining a relationship in terms of one person holding power over the other. They believe that women in modern society hold the power in relationships and want to see that turned.

They seem to get people in with some pretty basic concepts. If you want to get a girlfriend/wife, you need to make yourself as attractive as possible. I don't think that idea is crazy at all, but then they start adding all this "alpha male" bs and that women secretly want to be controlled by a big, strong man.

I am not a Red Piller. If anyone is and thinks that I'm misrepresenting their ideas, please let me know. I'm just going off the FAQ sections from their subreddit.

PUA

Pick Up Artists, are really just what they sound like. They hit the bars and try to score for the night. They might call it "seduction," which happens to be the subreddit they frequent most often.

Pretty much think of Tom Cruise in Magnolia.

They might talk about the being stuck in the "friend zone" or having trouble talking to or being intimidated by attractive women.

PUAs might end up going over to The Red Pill when they want to be in a longer relationship.

MGTOW

Men Going Their Own Way is a much, much smaller group than the others but deserves a mention since I feel they're related.

It's basically men that have decided to abandon the idea of relationships completely. They seem to be politically far-right and see themselves as put upon by society to be providers for people they view as leeches (women, the poor, etc., but mostly women).

MRAs

Men's Rights (IMO) focuses on the legal and social issues that men face in everyday society. These issues include, but are not limited to: circumcision, father's rights/custody, alimony, education, mental health, the perception that men and boys cannot be victims of certain types of crime/domestic abuse/discrimination, false accusations, gender roles, the perception of men as villainous, would-be rapists or completely incapable of taking an active role in parenting.

I'm going to see it even though Charlize Theron is to much of a barbie build to really pull off action. I mean come one it would be like using a waify twink boy in a male action role would that work? Hell no! Put a girl with some fucking grit and muscles like Vasquez from aliens she was fucking bad ass and and kinda hot but I always had a thing for Tomboys.

Here's how I put it to my movie reviewing friend:

Kill Bill 3 is coming out. I absolutely LOVED Kill Bill 1 and 2! Uma Thurman totally kicked ass as The Bride, and I loved how Tarantino did it as an homage to anime. I'm totally going to see that! The trailer has Uma in it, so she's clearly coming back to reprise her role, and everything I'm seeing says it's should be similar to what I've come to expect from the series.

Then two days before the movie is released, I see an interview with Paul Elam, from A Voice for Men, who says he consulted on the movie. What the hell would a men's rights guy have to do with an action movie with a really strong female lead? Why is an action movie even getting involved in gender politics enough to even have him consulting?

Well, once I read the interview, I realize that the movie isn't about The Bride, but about The Groom, and Uma's part is there just to advance the story and give the marketing team something to sell around because The Bride really isn't the lead. It's clear from the tone of the interview, that they did this on purpose to slip the real plot and agenda past the audience. The plot is still a revenge plot, so it generally keeps to the gestalt, but instead of getting revenge for being shot in the head at her own wedding, The Groom is getting revenge for his wife taking him for everything in the divorce and alienating his kids. Uma's just there to teach him some swordplay, give him the Hanzo, and cheer him on in his march against this gross injustice as he chops down her army of well-paid lawyers and culminates with her decapitation at her dining room table.

Why would I be happy about this? Even if I don't give a rat's ass about male vs. female leads, why would I be happy about someone taking an established franchise and clearly using it to sell me some blatant gender war polemic gussied up so that it roughly fits the general gestalt of the series?

In the end, it might still be a decent movie, but that kind of blatant misrepresentation and manipulation leaves me cold.

I agree with you on a this. The site is a garbage site and has nothing to do with mens rights. I saw the movie last night with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed it. I saw the movie as a fight against tyranny which would not have been possible with out both the male and female characters. It was well worth seeing
