Before I rant on the red pill I do credit it with some positive lessons that I’ve taken to heart: self improvement is important and it shouldn’t be done to “get girls”, it’s important to become a man worthy of respect (first self respect, and then respect from others), there’s no such thing as the “one” for you (ie don’t put a woman on a pedestal).
With that being said there’s a lot I dislike with the Red Pill. I believe it promotes ideas that make it easy to hate women (“AWALT”, claiming women are incapable of being loyal, etc). As someone who wants to get married I think that sort of ideology has made me develop a very toxic mindset towards women that I have been activitely working past thanks to therapy, my spiritual life, and a mostly healthy relationship with my current girlfriend.
With that being said I believe red pill ideology is still affecting me in my current relationship. I’m with a great woman who I plan to marry. With that being said I really struggle with trusting her. On paper, she’s the woman any self-described “red pill man” would dream of: she’s beautiful, smart, social and has never kissed a man besides me. She’s also a virgin, so no, we’ve never had sex. On paper I trust her (because of all the red pill programming I’ve tried to get out of especially with regards to n-count). I simultaneously don’t fully trust her because me and her haven’t had sex (more on this below).
So while unconsciously I love that she’s a virgin, I also subconsciously wish she would have sex with me, even though for relgious reasons we have mutually decided not to have sex until marriage.
I can’t help but fixate on yellow flags that I wouldn’t even label as yellow flags if I wasn’t in the red pill manosphere for so long. These (red pilled based) yellow flags include:
- She loves having guy friends. She had many before me and has gained more since being in a relationship with me. She even meets with these guys some times 1:1. Red pill guys always state a girl only has guy friends for attention so if she’s still having guy friends while dating me, then “I’m not enough”
- She has a flirtatious personality. This is actually one flag irregardless of red pill teaching that I think is a no-no. But maybe I’m still being influenced by red pill here?
- She hasn’t had sex with me. Even though it’s for religious reasons I can’t get the words out of my head from red pill gurus saying “she doesn’t really love you if she doesn’t have sex with you”
- She’s not “obsessed” with me. In fact for most parts of the relationship I initiate more. The one thing that she initiates more now (but only after having a conversation about it early on in our relationship) is talking on the phone. Again Red Pill screwed into my brain that a loyal woman is a woman who’s obsessed with you.
All of this has just made it impossible to be open and vulnerable with my girlfriend because deep down I don’t trust her. And I don’t trust her because of these “yellow flags” that I might not have even seen as yellow flags if it wasn’t for red pill teaching.
You might say, “we’ll just recognize these aren’t yellow flags and move on.” But I think another part of me doesn’t really know if these truly aren’t yellow flags. Was the red pill truly wrong about all of this?
Finally to explain the no sex part since I know people will have questions on that: my gf is saving it for marriage for religious reasons. Before dating her I started practicing abstinence even though I was very much living my bachelor life before that. In my state of abstinence I had committed to finding the right girl before having sex again. When I met her I was aware of her wanting to remain virgin until marriage and honestly I didn’t mind since I figured we were close enough to the same page there. I think it was only over time that i started having mixed feelings about it all.
Thanks in advance

Great question. Definitely not. But then the question is who is a good role model that’s in a happy and healthy monogamous relationship? I know plenty of people in monogamous relationships (IRL), but they’re not happy. Do you know any online?

I talk to them. Or I see the outcome of the relationship (they broke up). I knew of almost ten couples that broke up during Covid. I was close with at least one person in each of those couples. The vast majority broke off because they had been unhappy for ages and Covid just exasperated that.
You really only know if a relationship is happy by talking to them. It requires talking to each person in the relationship and knowing truly if they are both happy
I have not determined any true full proof external signs that I would be confident to list right now

First, thanks for responding. I truly appreciate.
Second, as we continue conversation I just ask for empathy and kindness especially as we both ask each other questions.
A few things:
I’ve never understood the “choosing” idea. Maybe it’s because of the red pill teachings, maybe not. Either way, let’s take my girlfriend. Quite a few of those guy friends she has, she has liked. They just didn’t like her back or she never found out if they liked her or they never acted on their attraction. How is this choosing me if I’m just the first man who she liked and also reciprocated those feelings and then acted on them? Technically yes she’s “choosing me” but the fear is not that she is or isn’t choosing me, it’s that I’m the only option she could have chosen. How is that choosing if all your other options didn’t work out?
Sure, re: flirting. But I also could be flirtatious around people pre-this relationship. And since getting into this relationship I turned that off so not to give women any idea I was interested. You may say “if you’re not interested just tell them if they come on to you” but why as someone in a committed relationship should do things that invite others to assume I’m single? It’s the same reason I don’t tell my girl friends hard things going on in my relationship: it invites people who could be attracted to either of us an “in” into the relationship.
Agreed re: faith vs red pill. Totally agree actually. Just something I wanted to vent about and ask advice on how to heal past. I’m in therapy will probably bring this up as one idea.
What signs do you look for to be sure that your SO is loyal?

Thanks for the input. I've never heard laughing a lot is a sign of flirtation. I think I've heard someone laughing at your "dumb jokes" can be taken as interest but not flirtation.
Flirtation is defined as "behavior that demonstrates a playful sexual attraction." I can see laughing being taken as interest but not flirtation. Laughter is more passive while flirtation is typically seen as active. For example, playfully touching someone is typically seen as flirtation (by most people I've talked to including my girlfriend).
So to your point if your mom just laughs a lot I (and most people I know) would not consider that flirtatious. But playfully touching someone is an example of what I know most people in my social circle see as flirtatious.

Fair point. Counter argument: what if walking away is worse than staying not because she chooses me but needs something that requires me? For example, we’re both getting older and value having a family, getting married etc. How do I know with certainty she’s not just choosing me because she wants to get married and have a family? Of course that’s part of the reason but I wouldn’t that to be the first reason. Does that make sense?
Great question. She does but I also know these guys are not her type. Isn’t the true test if a guy approaches her that’s truly her type?
And I love that last paragraph. Thanks I’m going think on that. And again thanks for continuing this conversation with me

Well because I have other options but I've committed to her. Furthermore, I was willing to wait for sex before marriage with her even before I converted to my current religion. All that says I really want to be with her and specifically her. If what I wanted was (just) family and marriage then 1) there are plenty of other girls (not to toot my own horn) who I could have been with 2) before her I explicitly had a period where I didn't even want to be married 3) as a man I'm told by plenty of people in my social circle I'm too young to get married (because i'm not mid-thirties) so socially it's not even advantageous 4) I can go on..
But yeah. Of course I want to have a family, but that desire was in part inspired by being with her. I was partly inspired to be able to even envision that because I truly like spending time with her and being with her and therefore can see a future with her.

I guess that’s what im asking the community. The Red pill would probably co-sign a few signs to “trust” a woman (even though they would simultaneously say never trust a woman). Those signs would include:
Im seeking to understand actually healthy signs for knowing you can trust a romantic partner.
I do trust men. Because I have several close guy friends who I owe my life to and have never betrayed me. It’s made me trust guys and truly believe there are real good men out there that want the best for me.
The same cannot be said romantically. I’ve been cheated on twice. Even my friends of the opposite sex have never been loyal to me like my guy friends have. Obviously this doesn’t mean I should never trust women but that’s where the root of this begins.
Yes I’m currently in therapy and have been in therapy for a while now. I also regularly seek advice from friends and mentors about this too.
Thanks so much for your comment.

All fair points and thanks for the tough honesty.
Actually helps quite a bit there. I think where I'll still have trouble is not seeing women as platonic friends (which especially recently I've gained a lot of platonic girl friends which has been super helpful in the redpill deprogramming) but struggling with trusting them romantically.
In other words, trusting women platonically is something that I've worked through a lot and even comments like this are helpful. Trusting them romantically (due to cheating) will be a much higher hill to climb.

Thanks for the first three suggestions. I agree that researching different psychology can help me unlearn certain things. I’m also already in therapy but thanks for the suggestion
Also would appreciate a kinder tone. I wrote this in haste so I think it’s unfair to assume that I “don’t know how to use certain words” especially as you write “misogyny” as “misoginy”.
Regarding opposite sex friends you really think there is 0 risk in having opposite sex friends while in a committed relationship? Im not even talking about whether someone should or shouldn’t. Im saying if you agree there’s any risk relative to the risk of having blond friends.
Re: flirtation. I responded to this in another comment but I think it comes down to inviting others into your relationship when they don’t need to. Flirtation is literally a signal that you are available. Why signal to others you’re available when you’re in a relationship?
We actually currently don’t do anything sexual. Mainly because we don’t want to be tempted towards having sex. So we kiss and hold hands and that’s it.
Agreed re: obsession. Obsession is not healthy however I don’t think I understand the fine line between being someone’s #1 and being someone’s all. I want the former but don’t know how to differentiate it from the latter.
Thanks so much for the conversation

Thanks for explaining and no worries. I didn't mean to come off as unkind either. Thanks again for this conversation.
I would tell her I'm not attracted to them like that at all and probably explain why I'm not. And if push came to shove and she was still uncomfortable with that friend I would be willing to distance myself from said friend. Note that I would only do this if it was clear that this was a one-off case and not a "I don't like you hanging out with any girl." That would tell me this probably wasn't an insecurity thing and I would lean on trusting my girlfriend's gut and prioritizing her comfortability over hanging out with this friend 1:1.
This is very fair and I agree. I like the reframing.
Here's an example that I mentioned in another comment: playful touching. Most people (that I have talked to) consider this flirtatious. In fact, even my girlfriend has found this flirtatious. For example, early in our relationship a girl (that I'm quite certain found me attractive) playfully was touching me with my girlfriend standing right next to me. I obviously respectfully kept my distance. My girlfriend was upset with the girl but not with me (as I didn't do anything wrong). Then later in the relationship, my girlfriend was playfully touching one of her best guy friends who she told me she used to like. How am I not supposed to see this as flirtatious when she herself thought the same of a girl doing it to me? And other times as well when girls have playfully touched me my girlfriend has found that flirtatious.
It would be one thing if my girlfriend found this completely platonic but she herself literally found it flirtatious when done to me.
I guess you can say it's romantic, it has a romantic quality. I.e kissing someone on the cheek can be platonic, can be romantic, and can be sexual. Kissing someone on the lips can be romantic and/or sexual. Ultimately because kissing someone else (besides me) can never be considered platonic that's why it would be considered cheating to us. It's doing something romantic and/or sexual with someone else.

Totally agree and thank you for saying all that. My one question is what constitutes "attraction"? For example, one guy friend my girlfriend has checks all the boxes but just personality wise isn't for her. That's why she could never see herself with him romantically. Despite that she loves talking with him. How can someone say personality is why they're incompatible yet they love talking to them? Furthermore, to me, if I have girl friend who I like hanging out with and I am physically attracted to them and we have similar values that would be pretty tempting for me. Fortunately all my girlfriends don't meet that bill.
An example is playful touching. Most people (that I have talked to) consider this flirtatious. In fact, even my girlfriend has found this flirtatious. For example, early in our relationship a girl (that I'm quite certain found me attractive) playfully was touching me with my girlfriend standing right next to me. Yes I'm religious (now). Sex is important to me, but I'm also adapting to my (new) religious beliefs about waiting for sex until marriage.
I appreciate this a lot. And I'm sorry you went through that. How do you determine the line between being her "#1" (healthy) and being her "all" (unhealthy)?
Yes currently working with one, but this conversation is super helpful as it will streamline some of the things I want to bring up to my therapist.

It's complicated.
I spent my entire adult life putting myself over any sort of faith or God.
I'm now currently trying to put my faith first, then my sexual urges after while simultaneously trying to let go of my old ideology (red pill). And that's hard.
I want to wait until marriage insofar as I want to put my faith first. I don't want to wait until marriage insofar as I want the security that comes with having sex with the woman I love and the validation knowing she truly wants it too.

Thanks for the comment. I actually wouldn't value her less if I had sex with her. This is not something I ever believed from Red Pill. What I believed from Red pill is the following: 1) a woman who sees sex as incredibly important important is a loyal woman and 2) a woman who has sex with me truly loves me. Her having sex with me wouldn't invalidate #1 because at the end of the day she only had sex with me (+ we waited a long time and she's waited her entire adult life). However it would validate #2.
At the same time I agree with you, her faith is important and I don't want to be above her faith. I want us both to prioritize our faith first and each other second (and everything else third). That's the true contradiction here. I want her faith to be above me but at the same time I want to be above her faith because I want #2 to be validated. I recognize it's a contradiction and that's the true contradiction here. Does that make sense?
With that being said this is definitely helpful:
With that being said I'll never really know. Because no "better guy" has really tried to pursue her. And this isn't me trying to self-boast, this is just me understanding her past. The one guy she was unhealthily obsessed with and was her dream guy ended up not pursuing her at the last minute as one example.

Thanks for the comment.
First, I am seeing a therapist. This has been part of my healing journey but thanks either way for suggesting that.
I like your second paragraph quite a bit. I guess my only concern there is the idea that we as humans can be “perfect.” I’m not saying you’re saying that, but it sounds close to it. For example, my girlfriend and I don’t sleep in the same bed. It’s not because we don’t trust each other and our moral/religious foundation, it’s because we know putting ourselves in that situation will likely put us in a situation where we can’t resist sex. It’s a recognition that we are two human beings in love and attracted to each other. Are there no boundaries one should have with opposite sex friends with this same principle in mind? Do we really think (regardless of how much you trust your partner) that there is no situation where it’s probably not a good idea if they are 1:1 with an opposite sex friend?
I like the way you’re reframing certain things I think that’s a nice way of doing things.
Finally as for your fourth paragraph I totally agree. I don’t want her to be obsessed with me in the all consuming codependent way, but I do want to be her number one priority (after religious priorities). Sometimes I’m not sure how to recognize that though.
Reading your comment and reflecting more on the OP I think something I need to get better at is being able to recognize healthy flags and what that looks like in a healthy relationship. For example being loyal is a bright green flag. But how do you gain that certainty if someone is loyal? Sorry that In particular is important to me as I have been cheated on twice before

You’re right and I agree regarding trusting / not trusting someone.
As for your second paragraph there’s a lot I resonate with. In fact part of my healing from red pill has been making a lot of friends who are women in the last year. The initial motivation wasn’t great—I knew I couldn’t stop my girlfriend from having guy friends and at the end of the day I didn’t want to build resentment towards something she had but I didn’t. So since then I’ve rekindled and made and several healthy platonic friends who are women. It’s great and I’m not attracted to any of them. And totally get what you mean since some of them are objectively good looking.
With that being said I still have concerns regarding 1 guy friend my girlfriend has. All of this has made me not concerned at all about the vast majority of those guys, except for one. This person in particular basically hits all the checkboxes of my girlfriend it’s just that personality wise she could never see them together. To me I struggle with that because if you’re attracted to him aside from your personality then why does she love talking to him all the time? Again maybe this is something you can help shed light on for me
