Wanda Rutkiewicz. Polish mountain climber and computer engineer, born 1943 in Lithuania. She was a 100% warrior! She was the first woman to reach the summit of K2 and the third woman (first European woman) to climb Mount Everest. Extremely well educated and an excellent athlete. As a young girl she witnessed her little brother get torn into shreds by a grenade left behind at the site they were both playing at. This tragedy shook her to the core, but it didn't hold her back from pursuing her dreams and succeeding in life's endevours. A fighter!

✨ My favourite part is when she married another successful and passionate mountaineer, sounds like a perfect match, innit? Wrong! The guy was displeased that she didn't want to cook, clean and birth children for him, instead she carried on climbing. After one of her expeditions the fucker threw her mountain gear out of the window and announced "It's me or the mountains!" Wanda chose mountain gear without hesitation and left the loser behind!✨

Wanda died at 49 years of age during an Expedition. She went missing, her body has never been found, some say she didn't even die back then. She was childless(or childfree). This woman is a GODDESS, I admire her determination, fortitude and her fire🔥⚡

2 of my college professors. I know it’s not within your parameters, but I don’t look up to anyone in media since I think these characters were mostly constructed for the male gaze or to fit in with dominant discourse.

Professor 1: She was in her 30’s. I was 17 when I started college and I thought of her as someone cool. She was never married, owned her own place in the city. She came off as difficult to men but I just loved her take on life and personality. She taught me about adversity and how to deal with things when they don’t go your way. She taught me that it’s a hard world for women who choose to be independent.

Professor 2: She was divorced a long time ago. She counts her blessing that she has no kids with him. Owns a condo in the city. I love her perspective on life. She enjoys the company of men and once they stop pleasing her, she cuts them off. When she feels lonely, she takes her nieces and nephews out for a day of fun. She is a full time lawyer and part time lecturer. She’s always wearing the nicest things. I love her and her take on life.

The reason why I like these two women is because they don’t really need men to mess up their life. They’re okay with themselves and being alone. I’m the type of person that likes to come home and change out of my work clothes into something more “me” for some pizza and wine on my couch with my dog on a Friday night. Then finish off with a bubble bath and go shopping the next day. I really don’t see the need for men in my life right now.

From the moment that I met these women, I really liked them. At 19, I knew that I wanted to live my life like theirs. I’m still in touch with one of them as the other prefers to keep a more private life, I occasionally talk to her when I visit campus.

My ex's mom. LOL. I miss her but never miss him. 🤣 She is an established poet, translates poetry between English and Spanish and vice versa, has written books, spends months at a time in foreign countries alone to write. She also snowboards in her late 60s and borrowed my wakeboard to try have fun with when I wasn't using it and was avid water skier. Just LOVE her zest for life. She always took care of herself physically, raised her daughters to be tough badasses, her husband catered to anything she wanted in life - a boat, time alone to travel, traveling together, whatever she asked for he followed suit. She does anything she wants to do and she takes care of herself in the process.

A gf I had in college. She used to make guys sleep on the couch or not bring them home to sleep with them if they couldn't provide recent STD papers. LMAO. Hands down this is still one of the most HVW things I've ever seen in my life. Their faces were priceless to watch when they realized she was serious and they were not getting laid that night. 🤣 She too took care of herself physically by doing yoga, hiking, and she was an avid rock climber until she got into an accident and was in a coma for 6 months where she had to relearn how to talk and walk afterwards. She never let that slow her down in life even though she now deals with erratic seizures. She was going for teaching, but her first match up teacher for student teaching didn't like her and tried to fail her. She went on to complete her degree, regardless, and has been teaching ever since (over a decade). During evenings in college, she was painting, reading mountains of books, exploring poetry, learning to cook her favorite dishes (and sharing them with me, her then neighbor), looking at maps. She had a million interests and she never let them go by the wayside.

Agent Carter is a fictional woman I admire. She does not allow her feminist to be seen as weakness and kicks ass with her brains and lipstick on. She doesn’t have to use physical violence to be taken seriously or seen as strong because she is not extraordinarily physically strong. All in all amazing.

Audrey Hepburn. Actively helped with the WW2 resistance as a child and did so much incredible work for charity in her later years. She held her head high through adversity and never let fame go to her head. She seems to be someone who could also grow/learn from her mistakes. She had an affair with the married William Holden when she was younger, but years later, after she was married and he came sniffing around her again on the set of Paris When It Sizzles, she absolutely refused to engage with his bullshit.

Also, Monica Lewinsky. Another great example of woman who succeeded in shaking off Pickme tendencies and became a HV woman. The experience she went through would have broken many people, yet she demonstrated remarkable resilience. I'm so glad she's thriving and using her platform for good. She's intelligent, successful and beautiful, and proof that the Wall is just LVM propaganda. I'm always in awe of how articulate she is when she speaks, and she conducts herself with integrity, never badmouthing or casting slurs.

J.K. Rowling, Hillary Clinton, and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

JKR got me into reading and writing and had a big influence on my creativity. A lot of things I’ve done and parts of who I am would be different if I’d never read her books. She is outspoken and not afraid to say what she feels is right even when it’s unpopular. She is one of the richest women in the world not from inherited wealth but from hard work and smart choices, and she donates so much more to charities percentage-wise than many other rich people.

There is no woman in politics who is as well-known nor as polarizing as Hillary Clinton. She was a source of inspiration for my ambition to grow to great heights while I was growing up. She’s intelligent and is great at maintaining composure in the face of adversity. No matter how many times people have come after her she has kept on moving along, doing what is needed to push for progress.

I see AOC as filling in the hole that was left by Hillary’s departure from public office and as the next step forward. She’s progressive, compassionate, outspoken, and wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s so young for a politician, and she is intelligent and knows how to mobilize people for positive change. She’s faced a lot of vitriol from early on in her career, but she doesn’t let that stop her from achieving her goals. I have high hopes for her.

There is an obvious theme among these women: They are polarizing figures who are intelligent, caring, hard working, ambitious, composed, and resilient.
