One time my ex and I both ate something that had an ungodly effect on our digestive systems. We’re talking uncontrollable farting, for real. I had never experienced anything like it and have not since. We had been together for years and at some point during this 24hr affliction both of us farted in bed. It was just so over the top and comically absurd that I laughed about it. Obviously neither of us could help it and it was a unique situation, one that I thought we’d laugh about years later.

I was wrong. He said to me: “women do not fart.” And I said “well you fart, all the time!” Him: “That’s different! I’m a man!”

This would be one of many red flags I would see from him where I assumed that since what he said was so absurd, surely he must be joking. Nope! He was just an old timey, delusional sexist. Men will try to hold you to a much higher ( if not impossible standard) than what they expect of themselves. Don’t accept it. 🙅‍♀️

I dated a guy for 4 years and would let him know I was angry and to go to the bathroom anytime he farted in front of me, we lived together

But I managed to never do it around him. If someone has such issues as constant gas, they are not healthy and need to look at their eating habits and maybe go see a doctor

I know women who like to fart and burp all the time with their men and I find it disgusting. And then if you say you don't like it they say you are not "really comfortable with your partner" or "not in a real relationship".

Excuse me, what? They definitely can hold in their farts. I've been with my boyfriend for three years now and he has only farted accidentally sometimes, and he always apologizes and feels embarrassed.

How disgusting. I know some relationships where both parties have agreed to not hold in their farts/burp publicly, but that's their business. Any men who claim they "can't" are gross NVM and you should not entertain them.

My boyfriend and I have been dating a year and he refuses to just “let ‘er rip” in front of me and vice versa. It’s a show of respect for your romantic partner IMO. We also wouldn’t poop or pee with the door open. If he needs to fart he’ll get up and do it away from my direction. I try to let my farts out silently in his company but sometimes I misjudge and it comes out pretty loud lol. We’ve totally already discussed our boundaries on this and the agreement is that we try not to be openly gross to each other but gas is natural and to be understanding of that. We’re around each other so much anyways it’s not really realistic to suppress farts all day.

My grandfather does this all of the time and it’s so disgusting. And whenever someone says something to him, it’s always the same old “I can’t help it.” But whenever my sister or I burp or fart, you’d think it’s the end of the world. And god forbid we say we’re on our period or a box of pads is seen in the bathroom. 🙄

There is nothing wrong with excusing oneself respectfully, in fact, to the bathroom to relieve gas. It’s something men should learn to do. My ex farted all the time and wouldn’t STOP and it was getting to the point where it was blatantly disrespectful. I would be trying to have serious conversations with him and he would continue it. It got old quickly. That kind of shit reminds me of the stuff my little brothers do, NOT a fully grown man. Stupid man child.

And not so much in the US, but when traveling I’m so grossed out by men spitting in public (I rarely see women do so unless they’re very old) or in some country the commonness of men urinating in public. It infuriated me so much to see that. Whyyyy are men not held to a higher standard of basic human decency.

we have the same digestive system... but statistically women are more likely to have IBS and other gut issues. if it was really not possible to control your gas, we would have WAY more women blasting off

I notice that farts get A LOT of hate here, but I honestly don’t understand why. It’s a completely natural consequence of a healthy digestive system. We all fart, some less, some more.

That being said, it’s all about respect. If one partner musters up all his might to fart as loud as possible, than that’s a 🚩. Dutch oven would be a deal breaker for me. An occasional toot? No problem at all. Hell, I’d be VERY offended of one of my toots was held against me, or if I was ever called disgusting for that.

And yes, stomach cramps from not faring are very real, I experience those quite often if I hold too much gas in.
