40 years ago when the miners went on strike in the UK and Parliament defunded the union a group of Lesbians and Gays made national news be fundraising to help support the miners.

So much of the devision we see has been intentionally created to keep us divided. But that also means that it's not inevitable that it's this way or that it has to be.

Change is made in incremental steps and not every person is polarized and tribalistic, there can be good and even substantial change.

In my country it was the left who made our conscription gender equal. And there are debates about equal distribution of parental leave.

Of course it will feel doomed if you go straight for the maximalist radical approach. Rather than hopelessly try to make them a communist argue for a specific moderate social policy, like universal healthcare or joining a union, and that too will be progress. Over time, socialists will have to realize that for socialism to work, it must take into account that it is not enough for men simply not to be exploited in the sphere of material production. They also need to ensure that they, unlike women, are not groomed to be used as cannon fodder in the fight against imperialism. Socialism without masculism does not work. Socialism without masculism is built on monstrous hypocrisy. Yes, there is a long tradition in socialism of inadequately equating the gender question with the women's question. But that does not mean that sooner or later, socialists will not recognize this mistake of theirs.

Times were that the left was dominated by men, during times when men were the main participants in the workforce. The left has tackled housing, wages, working conditions, the creation of weekends, the 40 hour working week, healthcare, etc, all during times when the majority of organised labour and politics were men. Obviously that varies by country, but a lot has been achieved and left wing men were often key to it.

What is really happening here is an awakening of advocacy for men on the basis of social issues rather than economic ones. The project, in reality, is to ensure we don't get left behind forever on those kinds of issues. It isn't insurmountable.

It is pretty normal for the left to be fragmented, because people who envision a better world have the hard job of convincing their peers (even like-minded ones) that their cause is just. It'll happen. It always does.

It will change in the end. My theory is that the more men become 'aware' and the more emotionally developed they are permitted to become, the more they will start to recognise abuse at the hands of women and to push back against toxic patterns and narratives as a collective. This will over time equalise the discussion, and at that point maybe we can solve problems rather than just have one side screaming and the other becoming resentful, as we have now.

Even if the left can't be changed, this space is one of the only non-misogynistic places that pushes back against men being beaten into oblivion. If this place ceased to exist, one of the only lights in a very dark world would be permanently extinguished and there would be nowhere left for men to go, all that would exist would be radical feminist spaces telling suffering men to eat shit and die. This place exists for hope and support for men really.

I believe that a man must state his philosophy boldly and boldly defend it.

The only reason that left of center parties and organizations have abandoned men is because too many liberal men have been too accommodating of women's issues for too long.

Only by stridently declaring men's issues as equally important as women's issues will there ever be any change in the current make up of the political parties.

The right wing conservatives in America are bad at balancing the budget, levying fair taxes, maintaining alliances, conducting sensible foreign policy, not interfering in family planning and women's health care...(my fingers are cramping)

...but by God they sure can deliver a testosterone saturated message that convinces men to vote against their own best interests!

We men of the Left need to stop letting Planned Parenthood, the National Organization of Women, and their ilk set the agenda exclusively for liberalism and what the Left represents.

You might think so, but points carried by the MRAs that were only talked in our circles are slowly filtering through into society at large, without people even being aware where those points are coming from.

As someone who's been in there for more than a decade, I can see the impact, the change in modes of thinking.

I will also point out that changes always come from a minority, and that when the majority finally turn, we will be there with the conceptual basis ready to be implemented

It depends what you mean by “the left”. Pro-union, pro-workers’-rights movements were traditionally male oriented (most industries had higher proportion of men in their labour force).

Instead of bundling up positions into indivisible “left” and “right” camps, we need a system that allows for specific topics.

Like if I say that I’m generally not in favour of Affirmative Action hiring programs (* with caveats), or that countries/regions need to manage population growth/decline for the good of their populace, that doesn’t mean I’m also an anti-abortion sexual puritan who wants to control women’s bodies.

On both sides if you say something that identifies you as the wrong tribe, as “not one of us”, then you’re the enemy, even on issues where you might reasonably agree.

Is overcoming tribalism a doomed cause? Given how messed up human psychology and interpersonal power are, probably. But what’s the alternative, get on-board with the oppressors and try to grift some personal gain from within the system?

Results are never certain, but there is value in fighting for what you believe regardless. Who else is going to live by your values if not you?

And why should you be reliant on either the mainstream left or conservatives accepting you? You're your own movement. Do your own thing. Organize. If others don't approve then fuck them, they never had your interests or values in mind in the first place. You don't need their approval to enact change, what you need is numbers and organization.

True Communism is not a reachable state. It is a goal state. Socialism is more attainable and only when a country starts adopting socialist ideals can it slowly approach (ad infinitum) the unreachable communism.

Because they have too. We are (by definition) animals. All humans are. We are also quite deterministic. A living thing acts in self interest all the time. Even when it sacrifices itself for another, it is expressing a personal ideal or value it holds (self actualization or self interest). Men can only be pushed soo far into the abyss before they resent completely. A world were men are absolutely enraged and cannot be bribed with sex is a world that will inevitably collapse. The majority of men that work the blue collar jobs are Republican or right winged. The left can curse them all they want, but without them food wouldn't exist for a good 100 million people tomorrow. Just silicon mining is enough to state the importance of these men. You don't punch a part of your body till it bleeds (much less a crucial one). The effects will be dire. And I don't take the leftist leaders to be stupid (to an extent).

It's not doomed, it's probably just too early. A lot of the world is increasingly moving on from the binary worldview the "progressive" consultancy class has been pushing for the last ~15 years. Once they lose enough power/influence it's a different game. Change is possible.
