Found this on the door of a hair salon in Cape Town, this is horrible, I haven’t seen a single barber shop that says “No women allowed for security reasons”

I remember people complaining about this place because a gay guy wasn't allowed to go into their store.

But to be fair South Africa is absolutely fucked in some places. Racism, rape and all sorts beyond belief. They implemented this in a bunch of places because of robberies, rape, attacks on children/women and so on.

This isn't the UK, USA or Germany etc. It's South Africa. They have/had serious issues.

From what my girlfriend has told me about life in SA (she's from Joburg), as much as this is discriminatory, there's realistically a good reason for it. You've got to think about what made these people to feel the need to put a sign like this up, it's possible that they've been rabid man-haters since they opened the store, but I'd like to find out more from the owners.

I don't know what is the context of this sign, (what do they do exactly in that hair salons), In some countries men are not allowed to enter some ladies salons/spas the same way men are not allowed to enter Ladies' bathroom or locker rooms. Like where do I live salons are gender-separated and they include massage rooms and body hair wax. And I guess it is best for men not to step in a room where an almost naked woman is lying down so no one accuse him of being pervert or worse.

It's not like men are dying or in a desperate need to get in there anyway.

All seriousness though, this reminds me of the outward reactions my male S/O gets when assisting me in public restrooms. It's immediately obvious to anyone what's going on when he comes in with a female wheelchair user holding the doors, etc, and you can hear us communicating and working together in the stall. Yet so many people still visibly or audibly react to his presence, as though the fact that they are in there matters at all to him. Get over yourself, we're minding our own business and you're almost trying to draw attention to yourself by reacting. But their "no boys allowed" script is so strong that it overrides all the obvious evidence and any shred of humanity.

I understand this post is about men but can we please stop bashing black people under the post? Blacks in South Africa are doing terribly right now for a multitude of reasons. One MAJOR reason being white involvement and the apartheid, (not to say that there aren't other non-colonization related) so making statements such as "No Blacks allowed for security reasons would be seen as awful so why is it okay to say no men" isn't helping anyone when race has always been a more impactful issue than sex. Generally it is worse to say things like this because these groups (Minorities and women) have typically had a more difficult time. I understand I am bias because of my own race but still.
