Seriously? A friend of mine was home with three of her kids when there was a knock on her door. There was a man there, holding a sheriff's badge. She opened it, and he pushed his way inside. He handcuffed her, shoved her and the kids into a room, grabbed her purse and some electronics, and left. She lives in one of the best parts of town, which is in the same neighborhood and less than a mile from me. Here's the source. Women can't defend themselves physically as well as the majority of men can. I don't see why being more cautious in this manner is a bad thing or is being viewed as sexist.

They aren't stating that all men are rapists. But women do get raped and it's not bad for them to be wary of that in a reasonable manner. Not even afraid of being raped so much as just afraid of overtaken and their personal home endangered.

You're overreacting a bit. I often don't answer the door either if it's someone I don't know. For me though it's just because I don't feel like dealing with it.

But I can see how a woman home alone might not answer out of fear. I'm not saying that the fear is justified, but your mind can play tricks on you when you're home alone. You watch a scary movie and suddenly you're looking around and hearing every creak and imagining all sorts of stuff. Is it stupid? Yes. But it's also human. Don't be so judgmental and turn it into a big rapey thing.

I, a woman, actually had to do this myself today. I'm sitting here alone, not expecting anyone, and there's a knock at the door. I was a bit caught off guard, but I went and answered it, and guess who it was? The fucking mailman dropping off a package for my roommate. Big whoop.

This is common sense. When I leave my nephews home alone I tell them not to answer the door unless I've warned them that someone is coming over.

I don't just pop my door open to anyone who knocks. Home invasion happen. Rape happens. People shouldn't be terrified but everyone should be cautious.

LIke I said below "Yes, it's rare but it does happen. Everyone, men and women, should always be cautious of strangers approaching them. I live in a tourism heavy city and I can't tell you how many robberies happen simply because people are not cautious enough about their surrounding and strangers approaching them."

As a woman, there is always a mentality pushed on us that rape is a possibility. We are wary of it in the same way that a man may be weary of being mugged, or attacked. Its not just women I think, men have told me to be careful for the same reason.

This really depends on your neighborhood. Some people live in places where anyone outside your door is likely to rob you. I'm lucky enough to live in a place that sees almost no crime outside of the usual (domestic abuse, petty theft).
