This made me so god damn mad. I'm never ever going to have kids because this kind of shit happening. How is he responsible for her bad health when he gets to see her 8 hours a week? This is completely ridiculous. You can clearly see her disdain for him before he even gets a chance to speak. I hope they show this to the judge, and I hope he then shows this video. This man is CLEARLY a loving parent, and a good man. I know if someone told me half of the things she did, I would have flipped the fuck out. Her fatass has no place trying to raise a, "healthy," child.

For fucks sake, someone do something about this. You don't tell someone how to raise their kids. He's not breaking any laws or violations. This woman is contradicting herself every two minutes in this video. I GUARANTEE you, if a man was questioning him, this video would have just been really boring. But no, this ham planet feels the need to express her opinions just because she has a government nametag. I would rather have my parents try to help me with my weight problem, than wait until I'm 300 pounds and can't land a date to save my life.

Also, when the fuck did he say he was taking her to McDonald's? Never. He never did. I know this was nearly two years ago, but I hope this man found/finds justice. He's clearly intelligent, loving, and well off enough to care for another human being. Child protective services is a complete joke, and is CLEARLY female dominated. I'm sickened.

This is the model of parenthood our society is advocating - No, not shared, equal, and enthusiastic parenthood (that is to say, both parents are equally involved, equally responsible, and have equal power, more or less), not anything like that. Our society promotes this model of parenting where men take the lion share of the financial responsibility, while everything else is barred from them.

I mean, literally, this is a father...actually trying to do the father-like-thing and he's being disrupted and attacked. Instead of working with him, they're working against him. He's the enemy.

Don't let anyone fool you when they say they want to see men 'man-up' and take charge as fathers...what they really just want is for us to be ATMs and to sit down, stfu, and let the 'women' handle the undesirable job raising the next generation. OUR generation.

So for the lady in purple to say that the kid isn't overweight isn't just a matter of opinion, but it is ignoring FACT.

You are not a medical practitioner, you can't weigh your child. Well fuck, I'm not a medical practitioner either, so I guess I should stop getting on a scale.

The negative image isn't 'getting on the scale' it's the 103 lbs that is the negative image.

The lady in purple isn't a medical practitioner, and yet she can say for sure, WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, is that the child is about going to go through a grown spurt.

Simply disgusting. The strongest point this man argued was about the medication. The notion that this "child advocate" can justify to herself that this man doesn't need medication information about his daughter is reason enough for her to be fired. You can see her trying to justify this in the moment and it just shows her disdain and bias. She comes in arms crossed with a look of disgust on her face from the beginning.

I am sooo proud of this man for maintaining his calm. He allowed this incompetent person to display her lack of professionalism and reason. If he had responded to her in kind he would have immediately taken the focus off of her incredibly poor behavior.

Unprofessional on so many levels.

Take the room, for example. Basically a kid's playroom. For starters, I would have insisted on having the meeting in a more professional room - a conference room with a conference table where people can sit and take notes. This was like he was called into a kiddies room at a daycare for a 'time out'. Indicative of the mindset of the workers.

And, the interviewee should have had a pro-bono lawyer, a pro-bono nurse or doctor if possible. These CPS workers are lecturing him on how to treat his daughter medically, yet what evidence did they offer they are any more qualified, medically, to give advice as to what is the medically safest course of action? And if I were him I would have pointed that out in the interview. And also noted that since he looked up the drug's information - and they obviously didn't - he is actually more knowledgeable about the drug in question than they are.

Great idea recording the meeting. Follow it up with a registered letter outlining in extensive detail how their statements and questions were unprofessional, contradictory and biased. Copy to the judge, the local media, etc.

What I was pissed the most about is the CPS's complete lack of concern that this child is taking highly dangerous drugs which interact with everyday over the counter medication, and then the child is put into the care of someone who does not know about it.

What if she got sick and he gave her flu medication or benedryle? Both can interact with MAOI medications, and both can cause serious issues. Plus the girl had heart pain. Not a thumping heart from over exertion, but heart pain. Seriously, this guy should be informed as her father and has her caretaker so he knows what to look for in case there are complications.

Beyond the fact that this CPS worker was inappropriate, gave advice she was not qualified to give, and was generally dismissive and combative, she put the child's life in danger.

This is so wrong on so many levels.

I went to his blog and read his case, and it is so sad that he has been alienated from his daughter like this and he has no end in sight. It is because of things like this that I am an anarcho-capitalist and dont believe one single monopoly should ever control the courts. Two things: 1) I agree that the father should not be taking her daughter to McDonalds if he is worried about her weight. What the worker says about the soda is almost all wrong, but I do agree that it would be better for him to give her water (flavored with a 0 cal powder if she wants it) or skim milk or low cal/watered down juice. 2) In my opinion, he has a definite right to know about the medication, it is DEFINITELY irresponsible to not tell someone supervising the daughter about serious medications she is on.
I also think it is an excellent idea for him to take a parenting course. It will definitely look good to the judge that he is trying to be a better parent, whether he needs it or not. Anecdotal: I am in school for my MSW and am interning at a county DSS and the people I work with are not this unprofessional. I don't know the background of the case, and I don't know what was said in the portions of the video that he edited out, but from what I saw in the video, I stand by my opinions above TL;DR: He shouldn't take her to McDonalds, he should know about the medication. Not everyone at DSS is this unprofessional.

People keep saying that there's nothing we can do about this, or asking what we can do.

In many areas, people can become a volunteer Guardians Ad Litum. A guardian at litum's job is to talk with the child, listen to the child, try to understand the child's concerns and needs and wants, and to advocate for the best interests of the child in court.

Often they will stop in to observe visitation between a child in the Foster Care system with their parents, as well as to observe the child's living conditions in the child's foster home.

The requirements of a guardian at litum are different state to state. Sometimes it has to be a lawyer, sometimes you only need 30 hours or so of training.

If anyone out there want to make an active difference in the lives of these children, and reduce bias by being a voice of reason who truly cares for these children, and the impact that removal from their parents can have on them, I suggest that you look into this possibility, and see if it's a volunteer oportunity that you can fit into your life.

Look, I agree that this interviewer appears quite clearly to be an ignorant blowhard who talks over and down to people to subject them to a will guided by a Dr. Phil-esque tenuous-at-best grasp of things like 'science' and 'medicine'. I will even grant that there is little which could possibly appear in the unedited version that would redeem these qualities.

What I will not agree is that the man is clearly in the right, that his being treated so hostilely is necessarily unwarranted, or that it's wrong that medical and other life details are being kept from him. Why? Because we don't know the whole story. I'm not normally one to natter over unknowns: I tend to judge a situation on the facts as presented and then appropriately shift my judgment as new facts come to light. What makes this case so different that I won't even hazard a tentative opinion?

At least¹ forty minutes² of that discussion were edited out. I don't mean 'I left off the forty minutes when we talked about something entirely unrelated', I mean forty minutes spread across thirty-seven mid-dialogue cuts. Some were eight seconds long, some were as long as five and a half minutes. They were, on average, one minute and eight seconds long, and some of them spanned a shift in topic or tone which suggests substantive material was omitted.

Now, I understand that brevity is the soul of wit, but when one is pitting one's word against someone else's and one has the trump card of a recorded conversation, the one thing that diminishes the validity of that asset is editing. When a sixty-seven minute video is cut down to twenty-seven there is literally far more that is hidden than has been shown.

It could well be the case that somewhere in those forty minutes are details which reveal this gentleman to be some sort of genuine threat to his daughter's well-being. Hell, for all we know he spent every one of those forty minutes calling his interviewer a 'walrus cunt'³ or any of the other choice morsels that Reddit has served up in response to this video⁴.

I obviously can't say what was cut, but I can say that we don't know what was actually said, and heavily editing a conversation that comes out looking so one-sidedly in favor of the editor can do nothing but raise suspicions as to what had to be eliminated in order to preserve or create that impression.

He clearly isn't bad intentioned and needs some guidance or parenting classes or something. Teach him how to make better choices so he can get more custody and have more responsibility over his daughter. Don't just attack him when he doesn't know better automatically.

Unless they teach him why coffee and soda and zero calorie foods aren't good for a 7 year old or how to shift focus toward nutrition and away from calorie counting he won't understand that his attempts at good parenting are going to hurt his daughter and hurt him in court.

This could have gone so much better if they had a little empathy for him and took time to helpfully point him in a better direction instead of just attacking him and leaving him confused. So clear that their job is just to judge and not to help.
