I agree with the OP.

The "men can stop rape" argument is based on the Radfem perspective that "rape" is a systematic form of subjugation in which a man, indoctrinated by Patriarchial Rape Culture (digressing: this denies the rapist's responsibility as well since the man is just mind-controlled by the patriarchy... so it objectifies men as well as women), takes a woman by force to "put her in her place." i.e. rape is fundamentally about gender politics and a rapist is acting as an avatar of men-the-class against an embodiment of women-the-class.

In this viewpoint, all rapes are caused by cultural misogyny, and there's no individual responsibility since we're all brainwashed by society.

Since "male culture" is seen as the culprit, the solution (according to radfems) is for male cultural spaces and institutions (for example, fraternities, sports teams, etc) to be regulated and policed so as to conform to feminist norms. Because otherwise, these institutions will only perpetuate rape culture and thus cause men to go rape women.

No one, of any sex, that believes in individual agency and responsibility should ever work with the "men can stop rape" crowd.

Totally. I love how feminists try to justify try to justify their bigotry when confronted with it. I have actually had people say "but those adds are to counter the idea that women are at fault when they are raped", as if this excuses blatant sexism.

The fact that these add campaigns exist also shows how bigoted feminism is as a movement. Where are all the 'nice' feminist trying to get the other feminists to stop with the blatant sexism. I bet many of the feminists who cry 'NAFALT' actually fully support these sexist adds.

The only class of humans that can stop crime is the criminal class.

Well I'm sure there's at least one conservative woman who has used the term "men can stop rape." She would also, stereotypically, be against abortion, but ironically wouldn't say "women can stop abortion," even though it's closer to the truth. It implies women are to blame for abortions alone. I say "blame the framers and biased liars."

First of all, rape is a rare crime. Also, we know that women rape too. But, for the sake of argument, let's say, of those who commit this rare crime, men do it significantly more frequently than women.

As the OP said, feminists implying all men are somehow collectively guilty is pretty offensive.

So, again, for the sake of argument, let's put make a list of some other unethical human behavior that women are guilty of significantly more frequently than men and ponder how women would react to said "educational" campaign:

1) "Women Can Stop Child Abuse" 2) "Women Can Stop Parental Alienation System" 3) "Women Can Stop Bogus Restraining Orders" 4) "Women Can Stop False Rape Allegations" 5) "Women Can Stop Bogus Disability Claims to the Government" 6) "Women Can Stop Rumor-Spreading" 7) "Women Can Stop Indirect and Relational Aggression" 8) "Women Can Stop Discrimination Via Quotas" 9) "Women Can Stop Unequal Distribution of Money and Support From The Government That Just Goes To One Sex" 10) "Women Can Stop Only Men Being Expected To Sign Up For Selective Service" 11) "Women Can Stop Lying" 12) "Women Can Stop Gossip"

I could go on for a while, but the obvious reaction to any of these very legitimate observations would be outrage.

Yes in some sense the idea that all men are rapists and that's all they are is the very heart of feminism. You see this all over the place both when the word rape is used explicitly as here, and when it isn't. But yeah the various laws designed to convict innocent men of rape, the definitions of rape designed to hide male victims, the "Schroedinger's Rapist" comments, the stuff about how women should constantly fear men and are justified because men are all "potential rapists", sexual harassment law which is based on the "all men are rapists" philosophy of the worst radicals who were not afraid to say word for word stuff like, "all heterosexual sex is rape", the sex segregationism embodied by the feminist domestic violence shelter industry, the idea of "male gaze" and "objectification" of women -- ie that men "rape" women just by looking at them sexually, the anti-sex condemnation of porn for men or female prostitution, the idea of "rape culture" which ignores the very real culture of rape against men, and yes this crap about "men can stop rape" that basically tells everyone that all men are rapists.

I agree that it implies that only men rape, but I disagree with the implication that all men rape. Just because the feminists believe that it is only men who rape, that doesn't mean they think they all will do it. But for the most part I agree that it is sexist.

I think that the phrase itself really changes depending on how you view it. Many rapists when questioned don't even think that what they did is abnormal. They perceive all others around them as people that can, will and do rape others. Rapists are very few and far between, but that mindset held by a rapist is a dangerous thing. They can take comments making light of rape or not being told to stop when they themselves make light of rape as affirmation of that mindset.

The word rape gets thrown around a lot, but as men that don't rape, we still have power to make some change in the minds of potential rapists, be them men or women. If we don't allow rapists to receive that affirmation from us as peers, they might come to realize it's not acceptable behavior.

"Men can stop rape" ads have more to do with making 1st year gender studies students feel like they are doing some sort of meaningful advocacy than it actually has to do with preventing sexual violence. It also has to do with creating and perpetuating "a monster in the closet" onto which all things can be blamed than it does with preventing sexual violence.

It ads more noise to the signal to noise ratio than it detracts from societal woes. But don't tell that to Canada, studies there show that blaming an entire gender for sexual violence reduces sexual violence. It's a shame no 1st year psych majors would give them an intro to how labels work.

I think this is over-reactionary. The "Men can stop rape" slogan is there because for a long time it was considered the woman's fault if she was raped. If a woman was raped back in the day (and even sometimes today) the question would be asked, "What did she do to deserve it?" This slogan does unfairly pin men as rapists, yes, but that's not it's specific purpose. Its purpose is shed light on who's to blame for rape, the aggressor or the victim.

Women can stop rape too. A subcompact 9mm is easily concealable (especially in a purse), easily controllable by someone with smaller hands, and, when loaded with proper hollow point ammunition, plenty enough to stop a potential rapist. If my states laws weren't so crooked and backwards you can bet I would be carrying every single day.
