Speaking as an Eagle Scout myself, I am pretty annoyed by this. I think it speaks more about how poorly the girl scouts are run and perceived rather than any inequality in girls and boys. I am annoyed because scouts was the one place that we could just be boys and not have to worry about being around girls and trying to impress them or hold back for them. We could talk about disgusting things and get dirty and run around the woods and just be boys. Girls should have this same opportunity but for God's sake keep it seperate. Scouting was such an important part of my life and it would have been a completely different experience if it wasn't just a group of young men being led by male role models. School wasn't like that because there was social pressure and the distraction of girls. In scouts we could focus on making friends, learning things, becoming men. Girls add a whole new dynamic to this, and I don't think it's a good one. I'm just really disappointed by this news. Sorry if this wasn't very well written I'm a bit drunk. I dont mean this to come across as anti-women or anything, I am just tired of seeing things I enjoy changing for the worse for the sake of "equality". Start by changing how the girl scouts are ran, girls have every right to this stuff too but not at the sake of the boys experience. Rant over.

Are girl scouts and boy scouts run by the same parent organization(s)?

I think it's so weird to just not offer up more options, or at least see if girl scouts members, would like to expand what they are doing to be more similar to boy scouts.

I think boys and girls need some time separate from the other gender to just have fun embracing boyhood and girlhood with other boys and girls.

Otherwise, just roll both into one and call it Scouts. Then let boys sell cookies and whatever, and girls camp and whatever. Depending on their own individual interests.

They will be keeping boys and girls separate. That's what they say now at least. Still seems silly, they should just make stuff available in Girl Scouts.

The BSA said in a statement on its site that girls can join its Cub Scouts program starting in 2018. It will be up to existing packs to decide whether they will remain all-boys, go co-ed or create all-girl divisions. Cub Scout dens, which are smaller units of six to eight kids within packs, will remain single-gender.

As for older girls, the organization says it will announce a program next year that will enable them to earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout. It hopes to have the program in place in 2019.

"This unique approach allows the organization to maintain the integrity of the single gender model while also meeting the needs of today's families," BSA said.

Based on the reporting I heard last night this is actually a money move by the Boy Scouts, as they've had declining membership for years and are becoming non-viable financially. So they are trying to find a way to get more members and by poaching girls from Girl Scouts they can dramatically expand their dues paying membership.

The Girl Scouts org is NOT happy about this.

In the end it is a money move pure and simple.

I'm a female-to-male transgender person who came out later in life so I never went to any clubs exclusive to boys, but I think it fucked me up a lot not having that kind of experience, as a result I have trouble socializing. Social situations are very stressful for me and I just don't understand how to bond with people.

I can only imagine how this is going to affect young boys.

I guess I'll be the detractor here and say I've got not problem with this. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are significantly different organization and focus on very different things. If you are a kid who likes the activities that Boy Scouts undertake, then join the boy scouts. If you're a kid who like the activities that Girl Scouts do, then join the Girl Scouts.

Personally, I don't think it goes far enough since they're still planning to keep the boys and girls separate. They're kids. Just let them have fun and do what they want to do.

Because rational and reasonable parents have been boycotting the Boy Scouts of America ever since they started allowing homosexuals and transexuals into the BSA, and now the BSA is hurting financially, so BSA administration went after some girl money.
