The masculine response is to front up to him and tell him "what the fuck is wrong with you?" and see how he responds.

If he apologises and backs away, thats fine.

If he comes back at you.... thats when you punch him in the mouth.

Forget the girls here. Doesn't even matter if it bothers her not one whit. Thats actually not really the issue in a masculinity sense. The issue here is.... He's facing off to you. He's challenging you as a male openly. This is a male-male dominance challenge right to your face.

You bump that back, physically if necessary, but just verbally if not.

He backs down, or you make him back down. The important point is you don't back down. If you do, he just won the male dominance challenge that he forced on you.

If you aren't bumping back against a challenge like that to you as a man, you're not very masculine.

E. I don't know if it's masculine or not but I'd make him the restaurant management's problem. He sounds like he needs a lifetime ban. If management won't provide satisfaction, other customers need to know the sort of service they can expect from the establishment.

Edit: Most masculine is D. Most attractive is probably A with the clear threat of D.

solve the problem based on the information available.

THAT IS BEING MASCULINE. sure, being violent is also masculine but as a planned behavior, no way it would rational to start a fight because someone out of nowhere tells something mean and out of nowhere an adult woman is affected by mean words.

Being masculine is being rational.

What are they? Kids? if they are(in mind) why the heck would I be there?

Combination of A and B is probably the best response, but honestly this seems like a pretty rare situation. This guy is looking for a fight.

In my situation though my wife would probably have her hands around his neck before I could think of anything clever.

A or D, depends on your own style, D is far more common. An aggression is required, you can't ignore harm done to someone you should protect (B isn't an option unless done to bring harm, and it doesn't seem your point), time for C is later.

One comment, I noticed some female saying women get to define masculinity. Not true. Masculinity is defined socially by both men and women. Plenty of men won't think you are much of a man if you don't act in a masculine manner that is approved of by men (I don't give a fuck about how you feel about shit, be stoic or go crawl in a ditch and die). Men will lose respect for you and see you as easy prey for things women will ignore or don't care about, and other men's perceptions of you is more important if you want to gain power, be on top of society.

Lol in the real world no one gives a crap about a "rational mind", masculinity is shown through displays of power and dominance. This is how masculine behaviour is seen by women and 99% of the population outside of your kind on reddit.
