The general consensus on here amongst a lot of people is that the modern dating scene is fucked. I believe that our current culture has amplified and exacerbated a lot of these issues, more specifically the culture of instant gratification.

With major technological advancements it's easier to see and therefore imagine what you might be missing out on. And it also makes many things more accessible. If you're a guy and decide you're not happy with one women you can attempt to pick up girls on Tinder and other such sites. If you're a women you can go on social media or any dating site and get instant validation from hundreds instantly. Of course it's not limited to just dating, wanna know how to do something? Just google it, new show's just came out, you can watch the entire thing online in a binge session. You get instant gratification.

Here's the rub though: dating and society as a whole was never founded on the principle that you should be able to get what you're after almost instantly, after all instant gratification encourages entitlement and does not care for the future. Because if you perceive that someone out there has it better than you and you think with just a couple swipes you can just trade up you naturally will, it's human nature to want the best deal.

The problem is we now have an expectation that we should be able to just get this stuff, you should get that high value partner, you should get that awesome job, you should get that amazing house or apartment with the great view. And of course, as a result people are just jumping from one instant gratification to the next not really considering any kind of a future at all.

People are now only concerned with the short term and no one's really thinking about where they'll be in 10 years from now, or 20 or 30. It's immediate results and an expectation that things will work out just cause, this is what is amplifying the issues surrounding modern dating.

So if you disagree or think I'm putting too much of the blame on this one factor, comment below.
