The masterbating thing is more of a metaphor
I’m not shaming anyone. No judgment at all. Might be an unpopular opinion. I would say almost everyone is doing this, even people in ltrs/marriages. And people have been doing this for a while.
Technically, and scientifically speaking, the primary purpose for sex is procreation. And while yes, humans and lots of other animals will have sex for fun/pleasure/comfort/whatever reason, you’re technically just using that persons body to get yourself off.
Especially with modern contraceptives like the pill (you could even extend this to abortion). And especially in regards to casual sex or sex outside of marriage.
If you don’t want to get pregnant or get someone pregnant, you can have sex anyway.
But isn’t that just masturbation with extra steps. Again, no judgment here. I understand why people prefer sex to masturbation. But teccchnically I think it’s the same thing. I think this is why relationship satisfaction is going down because if you expand on this topic and connect it to psychology or sociology, i think it’s a sign that people are ok with devaluing each other/people.
This might sound traditional, but I think sex really did have more “meaning” back in the day. I don’t know if I’d go as far to say that people loved each other more, but I do think that sex and love or mmm esteem maybe had a stronger link

I’m saying the act of having sex without wanting a child is basically just devaluing sex to masterbation. You’re just pleasuring yourself, but you’re adding someone to the equation. Like adding a dildo. It enhances how you masterbate. While I mentioned love, it’s kind of irrelevant imo
[–]wtknight 5 points6 points7 points (15 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link
I’m not saying love isn’t a good thing or that sex can’t enhance an emotional bond. But that’s kind of supporting my point. Sex has value because it can create an emotional bond. Because the purpose of sex is to bond the parents so they’ll stay together to parent a child. We are devaluing sex now

They can do whatever they want, I’m saying imo it’s a sign that society just sees sex as different and less “special”

I agree with most of your points. And I do think that people are snappy because I said masturbation lol. But I just mean that, I think people are devaluing sex so much (which could be good or bad, I think it’s bad) that it’s basically becoming a form of glorified masturbation. Sex was never for recreation as you said. Especially for women. And I think that’s partly why women are pushing this narrative. It’s a form of independence for women and I understand. But women are also impacted the most, since the data says we bond faster and we have more risks from sex.
People get upset when I kind of just want to know if there’s a middle ground. People should be able to do what they want, but can’t we simultaneously tell young people that sex isn’t frivolous and has meaning?

It’s a debate. I’m arguing that having sex without wanting children is devaluing sex to nothing more than masterbation with extra steps. Might be causing some of the relationship “issues”

But if sex is a way to connect with your partner. That means sex has a primal purpose to bring a man and woman together to raise a child. The emotional bond created through sex is important. And we’re devaluing it or trying to minimize it by making sex a casual act where we ignore it’s intended purpose. To create a bond

I’d say people who can’t have kids doesn’t count.
People who can’t have kids but don’t want technically would count.
If you didn’t want kids, why do you still want sex? As much as people won’t to ignore the fact that humans are animals. I feel like the only people who wouldn’t fit this paradigm are actual asexual people. Those people don’t want kids. Everyone else subconsciously wants kids or their bodies want kids. Or they wouldn’t be having sex right?

I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonable. I just think that sex is losing too much value and people are forgetting the emotional and spiritual aspect of it
[–][deleted]1 point [recovered] | Copy Link
[–]YouAskedIt 0 points1 point2 points (6 children) | Copy Link

Technically. You sterilized yourself so that sex was 100% only a form of masterbation for you? You had to remove it’s intended purpose
[–]YouAskedIt 0 points1 point2 points (4 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
Asexuals are people who don’t want sex correct? Or don’t like it very much. If they do have sex, then they’d only have it specifically for procreation if they wanted kids? I’d say that fits my paradigm
And I’m not saying what you did was wrong. I wasn’t trying to offend you. But you saying that sex creates an emotional bond is going to my point that people are devaluing sex but trying to act like casual isn’t a big deal. Maybe it isn’t to some people. But as a collective cultural, I think the thought process is damaging

But you saying that people have sex because they are physically and emotionally attracted to them means that they have or want to form an emotional bond? Why are we forming bonds with people in a casual manner? Why are we devaluing that bond that we can create with others through sex?

But people having causal sex is acting like the bond it creates doesn’t exist. There ignoring it’s importance. And by doing that, they are essentially devaluing sex to nothing more than glorified masturbation is my point
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points (20 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (19 children) | Copy Link
The purpose of sex is to procreate though. I get it that people can expand it to be for entertainment/pleasure. Imo, at that point it’s just a form of masturbation.
But people are completely trying to remove and separate sex from bonding and children. And to me, that is seriously causing people to devalue sex. People don’t respect relationships or sex like they used to imo, because we have forgot it’s “primaryl purpose
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points (18 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (17 children) | Copy Link
Because humans are a little more conscious and pleasure seekers as a species, we can seek sex for pleasure. I’m not saying that like people who are 50 don’t have sex.
But I’m saying that people are trying to detach sex from its primary purpose. That’s what you’re doing right now. You’re ignoring what sex is for and how sex can really impact a person or create an emotional bond between a couple. A lot of people who want sex to just be a glorified from of masturbation. People want to act like sex doesn’t mean anything. People want to act like the reason why they’re horny isnt because they have a primal need to procreate
And they want to ignore these things and therefore devalue the importance or significance of sex, mostly because it’s pleasurable and they don’t want to be shamed for wanting it. Which I understand. But this is my conclusion. To many people have commented saying sex is special and helps couples bond. While simultaneously saying sex isn’t being devalued by people seeing it as virtually frivolous

You have sex in a relationship to create and or enhance your bond right? So if society is pushing for casual sex, isn’t that devaluing the importance of sex. People are trying to ignore that sex is about procreation and creating a bond between too people
I believe in God but I don’t follow a particular religion. And I’ve had sex before marriage. But now that I’m mid twenties. I’m starting to look at sex differently, especially how society is pushing sex to young woman
[–]masterofbrokendreams 0 points1 point2 points (5 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
It may or may not be. People love to talk about long term relationships. But peoples idea of a long term relationship can mean honestly anything. And that’s fine I guess. To me. Any sex outside of marriage is technically devaluing the act. That my belief
The people who have lots of casual sex believe that sex has no value beyond the pleasure they can get from it. So I’m saying it’s a spectrum. Some people sex is super valuable, some don’t. The ones who don’t imo, are ignoring how spiritual sex can be
Sex is a biological need to procreate. Asexual people don’t want sex, those are the only people imo who can actually say they don’t want children. Because they’re bodies are literally telling them they don’t want children by not making them horny
[–]masterofbrokendreams 0 points1 point2 points (3 children) | Copy Link
[–]RayRayGD1 points [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
The fact you still want sex means subconsciously or “biologically” you still want children. Asexual people who never has sex are the only ones who don’t want children
Sex might not be “spiritual” to you. I can drop that. But studies state that sex does create and emotional bond due to the chemicals that get released
Marriage doesn’t connect to the emotional bond in the sense that it can impact it. I’m saying that because sex can create an emotional bond, we should treat sex and relationships with more respective. And before now, marriage was a way to solidify a relationship and highlight the importance of sex
