As much as a lot of people will gripe about it. Physical attraction has so much to do with compatibility. And denying that people should just look past that is really damaging. If you aren't into someone's looks you'll likely find everything else they do annoying or cringey.

Is physical attraction the all encompassing thing obviously not but looks so play a factor in compatibility. You want to be attracted to the person you are supposed to be romantically involved with.

I believe that if dating has become more difficult for average or below-average men, it's because it's become more acceptable for women to reject immediately and reject on the basis of looks.

Sure, online dating has contributed, but really it boils down to this. If you look at what dating was like up to the 90s/early 2000s, average guys were encouraged to get to know women first, become her friends. Hookup culture was less prevalent, but "hot" guys have always had fewer hoops to jump through. But if a guy tried hard to become her friend, impress her through his sense of humor and his personality traits, she was encouraged not to make a decision either way and take a "wait and see" approach. And over time, that hard work often paid off.

Fast forward to now, many men don't even approach women anymore and those that do sometimes complain about almost instantaneous rejection like hearing "I have a boyfriend" almost immediately after starting a conversation with a woman. 20-30 years ago, such behavior would have been seen as "unladylike" but with the rise of feminism, many women now see it as a form of empowerment. On top of that, peoples memories are really short but the word "friend-zone" literally barely existed in common parlance 20 years ago. The idea that you could talk to a guy who you knew was pursuing you but categorically decide that he was only ever going to be just a friend--well I'm sure that phenomenon happened at times, but it didn't have a word to describe it and wasn't normalized the way it is now.

It also doesn't help that not only women go for looks, but they go for aspects of looks that are largely genetic or immutable. A guy can lose weight or gain some muscle, but without surgery he in general can't change his facial structure, grow taller past a certain age, regain his hair, etc. And those are the traits that women look for specifically because they can't be changed and are reflective of the man's genetic makeup, so the looks advice given to men is limited in usefulness because by definition it refers to traits that are changeable, and hence less genetic.

When I was 22 I downloaded tinder , so 10 years ago. No matches whatsoever. Women that looked like my foot didn't even give me the time of day. Thought the app was fucked or some algorithm shit. Heard of chadfishing. Decided to try it out. Replaced my pictures with that id a make model and had 300 marches in less then 5 hours of women begging to fuck this catfish profile I had made. Was one of the most depressing realisations to accept that in my present form I was not attractive.

Fast forward and at 31 complete opposite issue. My point is that for women they are 💯 far more visual then men and unforgiving of anything slightly less then perfect.
