Where I agree with the premise is most of the flirting/courting period. Maybe I just have never learned to have alot of fun with it since it has always been mostly a struggle for me but it is what it is.

For instance, trying to pick up a girl and get a date, whether it's someone you met at a bar or on tinder. About 90% of the time it is pretty clear that I am the one entertaining her which is fine, I get that it's part of the whole dating game, but it's not how I would ever choose to interact with someone who I already know well and am friends with; those conversations are much more of a 2-way street.

It's kind of the same with the initial 3-10 dates, you are typically just entertaining the girl. It feels like an "act" and not how I would hang out with, say, a new coworker who I wanted to be friends with.

My advice to these guys is to forget dating and sex and just learn to socialise. Socialising is not an act.

It is when you don't otherwise want to do it or care about the people you're doing it with.

Like just try spending a year talking to other humans, that may be a good start.

You think merely doing these will get you a date? If you're a woman doing this yeah sure. If a man doing this? NO. You do have to clown around to at least stand out and get a woman's attention. That entails going to the gym, eating healthy and dress nicely. If the guy doesn't enjoy doing any of these for the sake of it but does it anyway, he's clowning around to get women.

I may be incorrect but I suppose it has to do on the old troupe of

"The world is becoming (or has become) insane(clowns)" and "In the world of the insane a sane person is considered insane". Or, as the new internet culture calls it, "The Clown World", "Honk Honk" or "Woke World".

I think they consider the activity of 'dealing with today's women' is not worth the effort, unreasonable or a bad endeavor, and thus, is completely insane (like a clown antic).

It is debatable if you need to socialize, but truth be told, I understand where they come from.

If you crunch the numbers, it is insane the resources men put into acquiring sex. Our lives literally revolves around it, with the exception of the resources to maintain ourselves living.

Most male socializing is for resources, not for the act on itself, social interaction is a very low priority in most men's list. Actually, Not few have 'avoiding social interaction' as their primary goal once they acquire what they consider basic resources (usually, sex + wealth enough to get the basic needs).
Most men are not how they portrait to be, at least in socializing aspects. You see, one cannot let others know you are only there for the resources, it is not socially acceptable, so most just hide it. Those few men who succeed in tasks which require socializing are just very good liars. Most people consider me a good christian, who is bluepilled and a tad socialist, when I couldn't be farther from this. But Let me tell ya, it got me (and most successful men) very far.

Trying to pick up women in bars and clubs might be a clown act if you have a more productive alternative pursuit to do in your spare time.

Also picking up women in bars and clubs for non chads is a clown act if they only want sex, since escorts are a far better deal.

And if we take a more general view, most men are clowns because they diminish their worth by throwing them selves at every woman out there, hoping that one of them will be willing to have sex.
In every market value is determined by supply vs demand, men over saturate the demand to such an extended that the collective value becomes almost 0.

IMO this is why it happens:

"Clowning" here refer to basically putting on an act / becoming ingenuine for entertainment purposes.

Because for this guys rotting in the basement is their genuine experience, anything they change for that is to get women and they call it becoming a clown.

What you have to do is ask yourself is this behavior for my own benefit or engaged solely to attract women?

In a case like working out or improving living habits, the answer is clearly 1st and it's an issue of conflation.

In some other case like repeatedly paying for dates that lead nowhere, cracking jokes constantly and trying to act in a way solely to be entertaining to women, this is more actual clowning behavior. The thing is this set of actions is less successful than the first case, it's not remotely necessary in a lot of cases.

Socializing is absolutely an act, are you kidding me? You know, I find it funny when women say these things. Let me put it this way, when I started my career, I hated, despised talking to clients. Clients didn't trust me, they didn't have confidence that I knew what i was talking about, I had to convince them. I had to cater to them, figure out what their personality was and how receptive they would be to specific sentences, then I had walk on eggshells with the words and the sentences that came out of my mouth in front of them, to make sure that I'm not calling them idiots (most clients are idiots, I'm sorry, but if you are coming to a professional, you are there for a reason. Don't explain tax law to me because you ran a google search), while simultaneously explaining to them why they are wrong without sounding too aggressive. It was a game, an act that I had to put on. You couldn't tell a client they were wrong, even when they were so fucking wrong. Years later, now they come to me, they engage me, and they are interested in what I have to say because they want my service. I don't need to sell. I can (and have) called clients idiots and told them that if they have an extra half a mill lying around to pay in tax penalties and interest to go ahead and take the advice they found on google. A few of them did that, then a year later, came back to me and asked me to find a way to not make them pay that half a mill. It's still a game, but I enjoy talking with clients a lot more now, because they want me.

And that's a good example of "socializing" from a man and a woman's point of view. Women are approached, they speak with people who want to speak with them, who want to know who they are and what their interest are, whatever those interest may be. For men, it's a completely different experience. It's an interaction where you have to convince someone that you are interesting, it's an interaction where you are walking on eggshells.

Think about it this way, think about the difference between a sales guy who cold calls people for duct cleaning and the sales guy at the apple store. The guy doing cold calls for duct cleaning has a very very different job than the guy at the apple store. Yeah, they are both in "sales", but the guy at the apple store has people go to him, he doesn't need generate interest in the product he's selling, people are already interested, the guy cold calling for duct cleaning gets hung up on every other call, and when people don't hang up, he often has to make unreasonable promises to get them interested. Men experience "socializing" the same way the cold call guy experiences "sales", and women experience "socializing" the same way the apple guy experiences "sales". A woman saying "socializing is the essence of being a human being" is like the apple guy saying "being hung up on is the essence of sales".

It is a clown act for men. Men are the ones applying for the job, women are the ones hiring. When you go to a job interview, do you tell the interviewer that you like to spend at least an hour a day in during work time checking reddit? No, you bullshit. You put on an act where you exaggerate the qualities that you think they want, and not discuss the qualities that you know they don't want.

"Clown game" basically means putting on an act, something that's unnatural. No one says dressing well, or getting out of the basement is clown game. They're talking about extroverted behavior that feels necessary but unnatural.
