It's not about what works or not long term, it's about his principles/boundaries and how he was willing to bend them, just to preserve that illusion of the relationship.

Who cares, it's her fault to begin with, she opened the can of worms by being her insatiable female self and not valuing her husband putting up with her old ass. Turns out it worked better for him, now she wants out, sucks to suck. The grass is always greener until its not.

That is REALLY unusual though.
Most men attract women through beta bucks. A married man has no bucks to offer.
If the guy is SUPER-attractive then an open relationship would work for him. However, it seems like if a woman has managed to lock down a guy like this the last thing she would want to do is let him off the leash.

Many women start taking their husbands for granted, and lose sight of what attracted them to their husbands in the first place.
That's where dread game comes in. It forces her to confront the fact that other women find him attractive, activating (or reactivating, really) her pre-selection.

Very true. Even men like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise can't make a marriage last. However, at least those guys would do just fine in an open relationship.
My comment was just more around why open relationships generally don't work for men. The woman just has to spread her legs and guys will line up to have a "relationship" with her. The man can't do that - he needs to offer things in a relationship which he can't offer while he is still married, even if the marriage is "open."
An open marriage just means open to physical sex. It doesn't mean that the husband gets to support some other woman, spend lots of money on her, pay for her children, run out the door when something happens and be her knight in shining armor, and so on. Men don't expect any of these things in relationships, but women do. An open relationship denies men the ability to offer to a woman anything that she is interested in, while allowing a woman the ability to offer men everything they are interested in.

As this story proves. Your are completely wrong about what an open relationship means. For women it means frivolous sex. For men it means the chance to find some one to love and some one in which they can be needed by and who can be dependant on.
The problem is the exact inverse of your hypothesis is true. Women pursue lust and react with their baser instincts. Men pursue something much deeper.

Sure, but what is in it for the woman he wants to have this relationship with? His wife won't let him spend money on this woman, so he has little to offer her.
Unless this man is super-attractive he has nothing to offer a woman who is not his wife. He can't pay her, and she can find better men for casual sex.

That sounds nice on paper, but I think you're describing 0.001% of women. They aren't going to want to sleep with some completely average guy just because it is going to piss off his wife.
Sure, if you're in the top 5-10% of guys in attractiveness then an open marriage completely works for you, though why you'd get married in the first place is beyond me, as women are going to stick around even if you don't marry them, at least long enough for you to find 10 more plates to spin.
For the average shmuck whose wife wants to open up the relationship the result is that she gets to sleep around, and the guy gets nothing. The wife will also see how unsuccessful he is with women and will think even less of him than she already does.

Typically when wives seek an open relationship status they seek agreement to ground rules like "this is about physical sex only - we're not going to get emotionally/financially/etc involved."
I mean, EVERY married guy is free to do what he wants. Most live within the parameters they negotiate with their wife. When their wives find this non-beneficial they just initiate a divorce.
I've been married over 10 years and I still don't have a joint bank account and we split bills.
So, what is the point of getting married in the first place in such an arrangement? What benefit do you get from this?
After all, you and I don't have a joint bank account, and we manage to make that work without being married. Not combining finances is basically the default state.
The whole point of marriage is having access to the family court system, which is all about being told who gets what money. It basically provides no legal benefits other than that which can't easily be obtained in other ways.

A man being married for 20 years is you finding someone in your level, most of the time and being okay with it... Until she isn't. No beta mindset needed. That was a genuine relationship. Maybe in some idealized fantasy about the past.
I think in practice the main point of marriage was having access to a large number of children who could work on the farm at age 8 and turn a profit. That is why everything started to change once automation made low-skill labor a minor component of the workforce.
Marriage is like Mothers Against Drunk Driving - an institution that lives on and keeps looking for things to do long after the problem it was created to solve no longer exists.

Nah, man. Grand parents were married until death did then part. It's not a fantasy, it's attainable. People are just screwed up and only one gender is getting called out more than the other (Men, IMO) MY grandad wasn't a farmer. Lol he was a mechanic that lost his old job because he didn't want to rip people off. Found a new mechanic job though. Integrity and logic got lost in fantasy though, I'll say that much. We're in agreement on a few things.
I believe that women practice hypergamy now but Men do too, when it comes to a woman's physical genetics , smarts, and motherly qualities. Or they used to... Now it's just messed up. The majority of People want more than they're willing to give in some way and the little people have to take the loss for it. Sad but true.

You're just seeing cultural inertia. No-fault divorce didn't exist because families were serious business 150 years ago. Family stopped being serious business maybe 60-100 years ago. The cultural norms lingered on because everybody remembered how things were when they grew up. The laws started to change, and the cultural norms changed, and now we are where we are.
I believe that women practice hypergamy now but Men do too, when it comes to a woman's physical genetics , smarts, and motherly qualities. Or they used to... Now it's just messed up.
That's because it is all fun and games now. People get married because of feelings.
Back when marriage was basically a business operation practical considerations like survival and profit were a bigger part of the decision-making. If each kid was worth $5-10k/yr in profits, then all you needed was somebody who wasn't barren and who could babysit them until they were old enough to pick eggs or milk cows. I'm sure everybody wanted the prettiest girl in town, just like everybody would prefer the nicest house in town all thing considered. However, just as you aren't going to live in your parent's basement just because you can't afford the nicest house in town, people were willing to settle on marriage as well.
Cultural inertia is good for a generation or two. Talk to somebody who is 80 years old and there is probably a 50% chance that they've worked on a farm at some point in their life. Their parents almost certainly spent some time on a farm. Nostalgia drove some of their family decisions.
Most people under 50 today didn't have that kind of family life and feel no attachment to it. They're not just going to stick it out through thick and thin, because today there is no reason to do so.

Marriage was a combination of everything, unless you belonged to a family of higher status. Then, yes. You married for wealth.
You wanna know what most feminist of old said before they died? They wish they had made a family. A husband and kids. Older feminists are even beginning to say they were wrong on a lot of their views towards Men. There's something interesting about "Attachment theory" that I believe it's what destroyed the family in a lot of cases. They have a sub reddit, you should check it out. I believe after no fault divorce was pushed into media the this "I don't need a man" attitude was pushed even further that's when families fell apart and lost their ability to truly bond. My point is nothing more the than we need each other and a lot of us are too hurt to admit it. I was once like you. I never said science doesn't play a role in our choosing of our parents but so does environment and relationship with your parents... I'm this case mainly the father.

Marriage was definitely not just something for the wealthy during the industrial revolution. Sure, if you go back further than that I'm not sure how much people even bothered to marry in the lower classes, but being able to own children was a big cash cow.

Respectfully disagree. During world war 2 propaganda was the only thing keeping the war moving forward. During the peak of the Bill Cosby show The African American population in collages increased by 85%. Image and propaganda Most definitely influence us in ways we never thought. If that wasn't the case people wouldn't spend BILLIONS of dollars on marketing each year. Penetration of the human mind is easily done through image and TV. What we watch, see and hear influences us. I haven't even touched the details of the prison industrial complex(yes it ties in to image). Look up the "Jane Elliott race experiment" and the movies/images from back then. Volumes.

That theory doesn't really hold water when you consider that historically marriage is found in pre-agricultural and non-agricultural societies. And the changes in marriage are pretty much all late 20th century developments while automation was on the rise by the late 1700s. So we have nearly two centuries of continuously increasing automation before marriage as an institution starts to break down.
There was certainly some automation in the 1700s, but I don't think it really hit farms so dramatically until the late 1800s or so. Things like milking cows and picking eggs and so on were done by hand, and those jobs can be done by children.
Until fairly recently 50% of the population were farmers, and much of that labor was low-skill manual labor. This was perfect for children.
I do agree that marriage does go back even further than that, and child labor isn't the only component. I do think that child labor did however greatly incentivize it. On the flip side modern expectations around childrearing greatly disincentivize it. In the 1800s a 10 year old child was producing a profit, and today they cost many thousands of dollars a year to care for and produce no revenue at all. Much of this is due to the increased expectations around a standard of living for children - parents didn't really spend all that much on their kids 100 years ago.
I think the earliest origins of marriage were probably something like tribal leaders awarding wives to men for their loyalty/etc. You went from a more natural environment where only the top man has sex to one where more of the men have access to sex, because the top man benefits more from their labor than from the satisfaction of knowing that he is the only one getting it.

When a woman suggests an open relationship, she is trying to get you to explode in anger for some kind of drama, or worse to use your anger to call the cops.

Another option would be to agree to the open, purely verbally (no other evidence).
Then set things up to look as bad as possible. Do nothing yourself, be out of town looking after young nieces and nephews or doing charity work while she has her hookups. Have a detective photographing everything, try and set it up so friends will see them etc.
You wont win legally (since no fault) but you can set things up to burn the fields and salt the earth socially for her while she thinks she is out having fun and you are a chump/cuck and you have a headstart with establishing a narrative, as well as a folder full of damning evidence, not to mention that you're heartbroken not just by her desecrating the sanctity of your marriage but that she'd lie about your agreeing to it.

Well, the winning move today is not to play the game.
If for some reason you're in the game then obviously you do what you can to get the least-worst outcome.
I just don't want anybody to think that they can just avoid no-fault divorce and somehow make marriage a reasonable decision. If the letter of the law requires the judge to award 90% of the money and custody and support payments to the father, the judge is going to be looking for every excuse they can not to do that.
You're basically playing a game with loaded dice. Oh, sure, maybe in theory there is some outcome that favors you, but the game is completely rigged and 99% of the time you'll lose.

The moment the idea of an open marriage or relationship is mentioned, it's over. Often it's over even before, but at that point, it's out in the open and can no longer be denied. The only rational response to such a suggestion is to end the relationship then and there. If you try to stuff that genie back in the bottle at that point, you'll find that he no longer fits, so all you will accomplish is added frustration and noise - if your partner have taken the thought of an open relationship so far that they bring it up, not only have they already checked out of the relationship, but most likely they already have a candidate lined up.
Hell, in many cases, the opening is just cover for them already having "opened" the relationship on the sly, and just don't want to called on their cheating.
So it's pointless saying "no", once the suggestion has been made. Conversely, saying "yes" is also pointless. Most likely they're already checked out of the relationship, but what's even worse is that they're still going to be jealous if YOU find someone, and like the woman in this story, suddenly want to close the relationship back up again. So it truly is a lose-lose. Actually, it's a lose-lose-lose, because although you may be now back to the way you originally wanted things - closed, monogamous relationship - how do you forget about her tossing you aside like that and fucking a bunch losers until she tired of it, then when you finally started catching up to her, she immediately started demanding you close things up again.
Not only is it appalling hypocrisy on her part, it's patent unfairness is also petty and a downright slap in the face, which would leave anyone feeling like they were played for a fool.
I do agree with those that say that the story OP quoted seems to "good" to be true, it just ticks all the boxes a little too conveniently, but that said, I am aware of real stories that get pretty close, so who knows?
The point remains - if something like it ever happens to you, know that it's already too late to salvage anything. By all means go ahead and tell her what she wants to hear, just as long as you also immediately start preparations for a divorce/break up and give up all illusions of a future together.

Yep, usually when someone suggests an open relationship it's because they perceive that they themselves have "opportunity" and that their partner doesn't. But if the dynamics change and they suddenly must feel the sting of jealousy, how they "feel" about an open relationship changes quickly.

Indeed, and because the common law presumption is that all children born to a married woman are necessarily her husbands, a guy who agrees to an open marriage is a fool who is inflicting terrible paternity issues on himself. It’s conceivable that a wife could give birth to her boyfriends baby, leave her husband to be with said boyfriend and then force the husband to pay child support for “his” kid. The husband would have to have the resources to fight this.
[–]Farfromgood5000 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]fmanlySr. Hamster Analyst 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Conversely, saying "yes" is also pointless.
I dunno - tactically it seems like the wiser move. Usually the first to file for divorce has a lot of advantages (like being able to clean out the bank accounts, get the other person locked up depending on their gender, and so on).
So, just being concerned, talking it out, and in the end just telling your wife that you "want her to be happy" or whatever is probably the best bet. Then she thinks she is secure and won't do anything that YOU will regret.
Of course, the next day you phone up a divorce attorney and get that ball rolling, in secret. While she's off with Chad you can be taking steps to reduce the carnage when the courts get involved.
I doubt you'll get anything you would consider "fair" with that approach, but you'll get screwed less, and you gotta take what you can get.

Yep.
What this woman left out is that she slept with the 25 year old guy she had a crush on, BEFORE she suggested an open marriage.
He should have demanded a divorce.
If my wife ever did this to me, I'd leave for a few days. During that time I'd see my lawyer and have him draw up divorce papers, and get her served. Then I'd offer a divorce deal. It would be something like this:
"We're getting divorced. The only question is how painful and public this will be. You'll take this deal. If you don't, I will drag you through the nastiest, ugliest divorce this county has ever seen. There won't be anything left to divide. It will all be going to the lawyers. "I will go to your parents and tell them all the shit you've done to this marriage and to me. I'll sit down with the kids and tell them mom and dad are getting divorced because mom wants to fuck other men. I'll go to your friends, including our church friends, and tell them exactly why I'm divorcing you. I will trumpet all of this all over town. I will tell everyone we know, and everyone you know, that we're divorcing because you want to ho it up." "None of this has to happen. You sign off and take the deal, we end this marriage tomorrow, and you can fuck whoever you want to fuck... on YOUR dime and time. We can make up some shit about having "grown apart" (except it won't be made up... but it's good enough)." "Here's a pen. Dotted line's right there. I know you'll do the right and honorable thing."
"We're getting divorced. The only question is how painful and public this will be. You'll take this deal. If you don't, I will drag you through the nastiest, ugliest divorce this county has ever seen. There won't be anything left to divide. It will all be going to the lawyers.

I'll sit down with the kids and tell them mom and dad are getting divorced because mom wants to fuck other men. I'll go to your friends, including our church friends, and tell them exactly why I'm divorcing you. I will trumpet all of this all over town. I will tell everyone we know, and everyone you know, that we're divorcing because you want to ho it up."
"None of this has to happen. You sign off and take the deal, we end this marriage tomorrow, and you can fuck whoever you want to fuck... on YOUR dime and time. We can make up some shit about having "grown apart" (except it won't be made up... but it's good enough)."
"Here's a pen. Dotted line's right there. I know you'll do the right and honorable thing."

She had something these never-married single moms wish they had: a husband.
A committed husband of 20 years.
She had to have arguments, manipulation and the threat of divorce to get him to acquiesce to opening their relationship. And, no surprise here, it failed to work in her favor.
Furthermore, it took for her husband to start to form a bond with another woman for her to knock off the needless conflict. Is THIS is what it took for her to change her tune about their marriage??
I can see this going either way:

She seems like a horrible, controlling, selfish and absolutely manipulative monster.
Check the whole attempted suicide crap. Holy shit that's just inhuman level of hateful behavior. She never saw him as a partner, friend or even human being. She sees him as her toy to play with how she wants. Truly an object.
This witch has zero human emotions for anyone but herself.
Now poor dude found a woman that actually treats him well and he fell in love, probably more deeply than with his so-called wife.
Hopefully he can get the scum out of his life and move on.

I dated a bipolar girl in high school who did similar shit on at least two occasions, before I knew any better. Once she claimed she drank bleach, the second time she OD’d her meds and had to be taken to the hospital, have it purged, and went to a psych ward for almost a week. I was the one who had to tell her mom so she could go to the hospital but our friend circle still blamed me for it 🤷🏼♂️

We shouldn’t have to put up with that shit, hence, there shouldn’t be that excuse, they CAN make decisions and control themselves, just a good portion choose not to

I don't know why you're being downvoted.
They are adults who must suffer the consequences of poor decision making.
If they want to set themselves alight, let them burn. You are not compelled to even piss on them no matter how much they beg you to help them.
The woman in OP's post destroyed her marriage and now wants the consequences to vanish. Fuck that. Let her marriage crash and burn. She could have appreciated what she had and opened communication rather than her marriage, or her legs. She chose to play and she is only mad because she lost.
If it turned out that one of those hookups became more than just sex, she'd have left her husband. She doesn't respect her husband nor her marriage. It's no wonder she's in the mess she is in.

While that statement is true, the man to whom you replied made no such assertion.
[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm just replying to get back to this. This is one of the most common tendencies I had to observe in women these days, those dating me and those dating friends.
A lot of women think that they are worth more as a person than you based on the fact that they have more options to fuck. In this case, an open relationship is a power play on her part.
Now, she has a terrible personality and is over the hill, while the guy being a commited husband and being put well together, has grown WAY out of her league. His new woman probably couldn't believe her luck when she snatched him, while her guys couldn't wait to kick her out of the house.
Now, after her smug sense of superiority based on nothing but the sex drive of random men is shattered, she cries foul. Calling this childish would be an insult to most children. This is the kind of behaviour you see in children so spoiled, so worthless, that you forbid your own kids to even spend time with them.
I have seen this so many times, it's really disheartening. The only solace in this is that, as long as a man keeps it moving and works hard, he will ALWAYS win in the end. Keep that in mind when reading this, fellas!

He divorces her, not just because of this other flame, but because of all the arguments and manipulation from the woman whom supposedly loved him
In her update, he actually separated and began dating the high school friend.
As a side note, this story was exposed as fraudulent.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes it's probably fake, but it exposes a real truth in modern marriages...the idea that one person thinks they can browbeat another into an open relationship and there won't be consequences. I bet that at this new job there was a gaggle of single/divorced women who were egging her on, most women will not make a life altering decision like this without the tacit approval of her friends. The fact that she ended up doing this shows that she's not only duplicitous but stupid, easily lead and without morals.
This story might be false, but I bet there's 1000's of dead marriages that followed this exact path. My own ex suggested an open relationship, and I knew enough to know exactly what this meant, and after some snooping...yes she was already cheating. I immediately started divorce proceedings.

The "suicide attempt" was just the latest time she blackmailed him emotionally. She's used to getting her own way obviously so the blackmail has been going on for the entire marriage. He ended up with a chick who had a nice house etc so she didn't need a much from him. Most likely he bonded with the new woman because she wasn't blackmailing him all the time.

There are a few of these types of stories out there. Some come off as revenge/cuck porn.
Either way, I will take it as legit because MUCH stranger things have happened.
And it is a classic example of "watch what you wish for"
Women get laid easily, but they are not men. And once you pass a certain age, you are going to get non-stop pump and dump. I hope that suits you, because good men can smell that shit on a woman and she will be left with - well, everything but a good man.

*And once you pass a certain age, you are going to get non-stop pump and dump. *
Women allow that shit to happen as soon as they reach the age of consent. They call it empowering until a relationship fails to manifest. Then they blame all men for being low value. They never want to admit that they allowed themselves to be passed from one LVM to another willingly.
[–]Terminal-Psychosis 37 points38 points39 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not wanting to commit to some slut in no way makes you a low value man. If anything, exactly the opposite.
The girls riding the cock carousel into their 30's are the low value women. Fun for a weekend, but no more capacity to commit to a loving relationship.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They start to realize this in their 30s. I have seen a lot of women I know who are still single in their early 30s try to rebrand themselves. They are now “conservative and family-minded”. They can only live a lie for so long. They can’t hide their past in the social media age like they used to.
There are some that I can tell are really trying, just can’t take them serious no matter how they act now knowing their past.
As they say, past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior.
[–]RatingsOutOfTen 31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I legitimately tried to pump an older woman without dumping after. She turned out to be so utterly boring.
It's not even that the women change and get old. It's that I have changed and I have zero connection to a woman anymore.
Massages are nice. Sex is nice. Holding hands at the park is nice.... even dates are nice, but I always know it's temporary, even if she gets pregnant.

Yes - what incentive would 80+ % of men have it 20% of men had four or five wives and they all had none? No chance of spreading their legacy
So why would they work to better themselves? Better society. Answer - they wouldn't
And it is happening now in a world where harems are not a thing. Imagine the decline if it was completely acceptable for women to openly share certain men.

I personally am particularly interested by the apathy part because it kind of applies to me
I have absolutely no reason in my mind to really strive and try and put in loads of extra hours at my job. I don't get directly paid for extra work and the next jump up is not a significant pay increase but a significant workload increase. Why bother?
I can live comfortably and don't need to fund a partner or kids. So why stress myself out? And if too many people do this then society just stalls
Sure it would be great to pay off my place more quickly but it isn't essential. And the way to really do that would need probably double income. And the work require to get there would be intense

Promising your men foreign women as war brides is one way to deal with the situation, but it does commit you to endless wars of aggression, one of which you will eventually lose.
How? Why would you agree to fight for a society that you get no benefit from. No one would volunteer for that
There is a quote about WW1
"Why, this was a love battle–there was a century of middle-class love spent here. This was the last love battle"
Now it isn't specifically talking about romantic love but I believe it applies. Take away the prospect and what are people really fighting for?

The problem is that when you want a family all you will have are whores to try and build one with. Mabe you don't want a family, you just want to distract yourself with pleasure until the grave. Ok fine, but basing our society around that as the norm is suicide and a dead end.
[–]sleepyweaselisawakePlowing his way through muck 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm well past the point in my life where I would start a family. My friends who've been married long term and have families are trapped in dead bedrooms and are biding their time until the kids are old enough to move out on their own.
I don't know anyone who is happily married. Why would I subject myself to that kind of indentured servitude when I have complete personal and financial freedom?
I don't give a damn what happens to society. Society sure as hell doesn't give a damn what happens to me, or men like me. Society only cares what I can provide i.e. tax revenue, someone to blame for the failures of others, etc, etc.
As long as sex is cheap and easy, my investments continue doing well, and I can support my lifestyle, I'm not gonna worry about the rest of society. I'm all set.
Which is fine if you want to make that choice. I'm just pointing out that the inevitable slide of our civilization into total ruin could potentially constitute a 'problem' to those of us not embracing absolute nihilism.
Depending on how old you are, a sudden collapse that completely wipes out your 'lifestyle' is also very possible. I'm thinking you'd see the problem then.
[–]houseoftolstoyUnchivalrous Christian 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. It is not a popular message these days as the common culture is that sex happens whenever you want it to happen. Why wait for marriage when you can have it sooner? That is how many people see saving sex for marriage, and we are seeing many major negative consequences as a result.
Marriage is less valued when you introduce sex outside of it or do a "test marriage" by moving in with each other before the marriage. If the couple who is living together was not having sex before, they are setting themselves up for that temptation by living together. I am glad that my wife and I not only waited until marriage to have sex, but also live in the same home.

I wonder if this is legit. It's really rare that a woman will openly admit to manipulating other people. More likely, she will justify it as "pointing out the advantages", or "he was being unreasonable", everything she can do to free herself from guilt.

It follows the red pill trope a little too much for me. That and the fact the man ends up as the winner in the story with the woman scorned and "penniless" is quite on the nose.
Nevertheless I don't discount that this happens, even if this particular story is fictitious.
[–]SpacemanLost 30 points31 points32 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, this one was a bit too 'by the script' for me.
In real life, after one spouse wants the marriage opened up, the marriage usually explodes within a year or so. The other spouse often agrees to it, because they don't really feel they have much choice - i.e. the alternative is a threatened divorce and all the downsides of that.
People tend not to appreciate how much unrelenting pressure a wife often puts on her husband - pushing every button and trying every manipulation and making him miserable until he acquiesces. That's a behavior that our culture seems to condone and even enshrine in movies/TV/books etc.
The guy may win in the end, i.e. he eventually gets a divorce, and the unfaithful ex is out of his life which is all for the better, but he usually also makes it out battered and bruised and having paid a pretty penny due to the courts, and her manipulations and lashing out.
If they have kids under 18, and often enough that is the case, most courts don't give a rats ass about their sexual behavior, and he gets the short end of that stick in that department too.

I broke my marriage. Need advice on how to fix the damage or is it completely destroyed? Seeking Advice Suggested to post here because on other subs there is no real advice being given.
Also posted on another sub to get more advice
Might be long post. I am a wreck right now and don’t know what to do?
Me(40F) and my husband(39M) married young and were each other’s first. We have been married for nearly 18 years. We have two children(19F,18M) and both of them have moved out and are living their life.
Due to covid, i lost my job in february and got a new one in august. During this time, my husband had to do more work so that his job must be secured. So he was more distant due to his job. In my new job, i developed a crush on one of the young guy(25M) and started feeling excited. Nothing was wrong in our marriage and i still don’t know why i had those feelings for that guy. I might be insecure in myself. I started arguing with my husband for no reason and blamed him for everything wrong. At that time, i thought of everything possible to be upset with my husband. As in our country, restrictions on covid were removed in late August, so i started going out with my friends. I also started flirting with the young boy.
In early September, i suggested open marriage to spice up our relationship. I told him that i wanted to have fun and suggested him to do the same. I told him that our 20s and 30s went by just looking upon kids and now we should enjoy ourselves. He was completely against it. He said that marriage is not a joke and is special bond between two. At that time, i was having different mindset and told him how he had to change with new lifestyle and how old fashioned he is. He was still against it. So i started manipulating him and threatened to divorce. He finally agreed to open our relationship.
For first month, i hooked up with that guy and had several one night stands. My husband also started dating but never slept with anyone. In october, i started realising that most men never took care of my needs and pleasure. My husband was the only one who took care of my needs. The idea of sleeping with other men was short lived and i stopped it. I started having sex with my husband again and felt great. We were still dating other people. He was dating his high school friend and also had several sexual encounters with her after a month of dating. I started feeling jealous because of him dating her and still sleeping with her.
In mid november, i suggested to once again close our marriage and be monogamous. He was adamant that he would not do it. We had lots of fight. We argued a lot but he didn’t changed his decision. He was still going over to her house and spending nights over there. This situation was like a torture to me. I had to spend night alone in our marital home, on our marital bed knowing that he was with other woman and was entertaining her. On 28 nov, i tried to commit suicide because the emotional trauma was exceeding its limits. I was rushed to hospital by my husband and this led to change him his decision. He now agreed to close our marriage again. I was a bit relieved.
I thought we would recover pretty quickly from this phase of life. But hell i was wrong. He still thought about her. He even bought her a gift for her birthday. He wanted to go to her house to give her the present. But i agreed to let him go to her house on the condition that i would be going with him. We arrived at her house. Her house was pretty big and looked really expensive. We arrived at the door and she opened the gate. She took the gift and gave a hug to my husband in front of me. I got pissed and wanted to leave. She invited us for drinks but i refused and we came back home.
Last night, when we were having sex and he was just about to climax, he finished off while saying her name. I was pissed about it. I felt humiliated and was angry that he was thinking about her during sex also. He was also sorry for this but said that he is still confused regarding her. He ended up sleeping on couch.
This morning, he said that he cannot live like this. He wanted some space from me and that he would be moving out for some days to clear his mind. I agreed to it because i had no other option.
In afternoon, my friend sent me a pic of him at her house. She lives nearby and saw him at her door. I was devastated and called him. He answered and told me that we were on break so we could see other people.
Its been five hours and i am a wreck right now. He is not able to forget her and its ruining our relationship. I know that i already destroyed most of the marriage but now i am going to do anything to fix it. I have written everything unbaisedly so that you can give me some advice. I literally don’t know what i am writing and seeking fromwriting here but i cannot share this with our children.
I have realised how much he loved me unconditionally and i don’t want to throw away our 20 years together. Any advice on how to make him change his decision.

"Crumble it, step on it, throw it... Then unfold it, try to flatten it and tell it you're sorry... It won't work, it's still wrinkled and will never get back the way it was".
[–]BusinessBear53 30 points31 points32 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Wow. Another example of someone well past their prime who thinks they can still pull young guys and can't see they're only being used. Marriage trashed and only wants to fix it after she works out that she's been replaced.
The selfishness peaks when she states that she's on the couch crying about her husband being with someone else now but I guarantee the guy was in the exact same position crying and wondering where it all went wrong while she's out banging other guys. No pity for him though. It's only sad when she has to face the consequences of her decision to satisfy her tingles.
I know the husband will never see this but I wish him all the best. I hope he divorces his wife who never spared a thought for him during his dark moments and moves in with his new found love who actually wants him.

If that woman wanted advice and I was the one giving it. I would tell her that I am sorry. Sorry you live in a society that makes you believe your satisfaction matters. There are good decisions and bad decisions, both have consequences. Welcome to the rest of your life. You now have the freedom and all that entails.

As someone in the lifestyle, I've anecdotally observed that many couples try the open marriage in an attempt to save it. However, it often doesn't work, and it's precisely for the reasons listed in the OP. Open marriages only tend to work if they start that way.

So she bought into BuzzFeed feminism and ruined her marriage.
Also telling that his high school gf is also single at 40.
His high school gf probably has no prospects of a better man and is relieved that someone who actually loved her is still interested.
She should probably accept the open marriage situation or gladly lose him to his high school gf forever.
The guy better makes sure his high school gf does not get pregnant.
The only reason she has not filed for divorce, I think, is because she probably makes more than him.

Based on her description of her job in the first part I doubt she makes more than he does. Due to her getting let go due to covid and having to accept something new, it sounds like she doesn't make alot.
However she only hasn't tried divorce raping him yet cuz she can't play the old "I stayed home to raise his kids for years or will stay home with them" card since they're adults now and she'd be limited in alimony due to having a history of working and child support not being part of the divorce settlement. So his finances are relatively safe, thank God

Perfect example of play stupid games, win stupid prizes. How funny that the moment the open marriage idea that she not only demanded but threatened divorce over became inconvenient to her she decides that she wants to close the marriage again. My sympathy level cannot go lower, as I will emphasize that she threatened to divorce him if he did not accept her demands.
Something very unsurprising about her request for an open marriage is that she already has a guy in mind to have sex with well before proposing demanding the open marriage. So she had sex ready to go while her husband had to start from square one. And as we know when it comes to getting sex, men have a lot more hurdles than women in finding someone willing to have sex in short time. Notice how the husband had went on dates but did not have sex while she had one night stands.
Not only is an open marriage so lopsided towards the woman that the man being told "he can go out and have some fun too" is just empty words (as if a woman who brings up the idea of an open marriage cares if her husband is able to even find another woman), but the very idea of an open marriage is an insult to the man. Marriage is supposed to be a lifelong commitment, and telling your husband that you want to break that commitment to sleep with other men is just spitting in his face. Such a proposal should mean the wife gets no financial support from the husband, which could happen properly if not for our screwed up divorce laws. Any marriage is functionally over the moment the words "open marriage" are uttered.

"He is not able to forget her and it's ruining our relationship."
Yes, it was
- She got a crush on a younging at work
- She started creating fights to ultimately justify the hookup.
- She gave ultimatums and forced the open marriage.
- She basically forced the other person to let him cheat.
- She then got jealous that HE was able to go outside the marriage.
- She decides it's HIM WHO IS THE PROBLEM.
Yeah, typical hamsterlogic.
Women don't realize. They feel, they act, they they pass blame. It's what men enable them to do, and get away with it constantly.
Thank god the kids are grown and out of the house and this poor bastard won't have to shell out for 25 years of child support.

And the update post, absolutely disgusting human manipulating her husband and children. I hope the husband finds happiness with his new girlfriend.
since last post, most of you have bashed me over my bad choices and i know i deserve this. Its been three days and my husband has not contacted me. Yesterday, our kids came home for christmas weekend. They have asked me about their dad. I have told them that we had a fight and he is staying at hotel. Then they called him to request him to come home. He picked up the phone and kids told him that he should not behave like this and should not ruin their christmas because of small fights. He hung up on phone and about an hour ago called me. He said that if i didn't came clean about my infidelity to our kids, there would be no chance that he would come on christmas. I am in troubled situation. If i come clean, kids would go to their father and he will manipulate them and i would be alone for christmas and if i don't come clean, i would spend my christmas with my kids but later on they will find out the truth and would blame me for absence of their father on christmas.

I'm not sure if this story is true or not. But it does show how workplace affairs affect women so powerfully. They provide a powerful combination of beta and alpha. Beta, because his interactions with her will be friendly, usually caring. And she also knows how much he's earning, meaning he has provider potential. Alpha, because the forbidden nature of the relationship generates excitement and generates tingles all by itself.

Coulda been a throw away account but if on her main, I would at least respect her not hiding her flaws on her main profile.
She still a hoe though lol
I didn't see anybody comment on this little bit:
Nothing was wrong in our marriage and i still don’t know why i had those feelings for that guy. I might be insecure in myself.
She says this as if feelings were reason, and as if having those feelings somehow made it logical that she act on them.
This is just the natural result of giving people agency without responsibility. They end up following their feelings.
I slept with that guy because of how I felt - as if just doing whatever you feel like is completely normal. "Officer, I walked out of Walmart with that TV I didn't pay for because I felt like having a TV would make me happier. I have no idea why I felt like having toys would be fun - maybe there is something wrong with me..."

Technically it's not hypergamy; since she is at this point infertile (and already has kids) and it's unlikely the 25year old is richer/more prestigious job title. So it's more just classic duality but she's taken much longer than usual to engage the alpha fucks side of thing.
Amongst all the other post-facto rationalisation (ie now that she's decided it's a bad idea/outcome magically everything happened mysteriously and by chance etc not by design and calculation) the stand out comment that she accidentally let slip that is incredibly revealing "The idea of sleeping with other men was short lived and I stopped it. I started having sex with my husband again". So at the start of the open marriage she went no sex with her supposed soul mate/life partner. That's the clearest signal possible that it isnt just the fact that he couldnt fulfill all her needs and after decades she needs it supplemented but that she still loves what he does do, she's saying he's no longer permitted to satisfy any of her needs - she's searching for a replacement.
There's no coming back from that, esp when it was initiated using blackmail/threats.
Technically it's not hypergamy;
Hypergamy is not limited to selection to breeding.

Good grief, I hope this is fake but what a manipulative whore.
You should have been happy with your high school sweetheart that sounded like he loved you. What’s wrong with people who throw that shit away?
Stupid stupid stupid.
Since I will never be married I would not have to face this kind of problem, but in any hypothetical scenario, the moment she complains about the marriage in terms of sex, it's over for me.
I would quickly start securing all the assets, then divorce her before she does.
I would never maintain that kind of polyamory delusion.
This post confirms my observations, the two main drivers for women are monotony and jealousy.
She got bored with the monotony so started fucking the other guy, while the jealousy of her husband leveling up to a broad with more going for her drove her insane to the point where she tried to kill herself lol.
You have to see the humor in this stuff or it would drive you crazy.

Just a simple grass-is-greener over there scenario. She was probably always a closet hopeless romantic type.
The type thats Always asking “ honey why dont you sweep me off my feet everyday like so and so in that movie”
But see, he was sweeping her off her feet just not in the way her delusion thought he should.
Putting his nose to the grindstone, and his life at risk everyday- during the worst pandemic this world has seen in a 100 years, was chivalrous as fuck.
But she sees that fresh grass over there and thinks hmmm that’ll do nice.
she gets to over there and sees the grass is new and shiny and the perfect shade of green, but, holy hell, its fucking fake!
“Shit I was tricked” she says aloud then turns to go back and .......
He’s gone, emotionally at first, then physically.
Tough luck babe. Its Spinster time. Guess who gets to live in the castle now. Happily fucking ever after.

As much as people on reddit try to separate them, sex and love are connected. That is why open marriages rarely work out. If you sleep around sooner or later emotions and possibly love will appear, completely destroying the marriage.
It is also about what you seek. The wife was excited about a younger male that just wanted to satisfy his milf fetish. At the same time the husband looked for a similarly aged woman that could satisfy both his emotional and sexual needs.
TBH, I expected this outcome after reading the first few sentences.

"He is not able to forget her and its ruining our relationship."
Nope. She ruined the emotional home he commited to by sacrificing even more time than he did before. And in return for doing so, she decided to manipulate him to the point that he went out to find a new emotional home. And seeing how commited he was to her, he will most likely not return, because she slaughtered his sincerity for marriage completely.
She burned down her own house because she was too lazy to turn up the heater. Well done, leave the man alone now, miss home wrecker.
Yeah threatening divorce if you don't allow your wife to go sleep with another dude...that's really going to make him respect and value you...stupid bitch!!!

Unless the husband is a total nitwit, the suicide thing is likely to come out in court. It sounds like the children are mostly old enough for custody to not be a major issue. Still, the suicide thing won't look good in the divorce.

Here's a translation that is a bit shorter:
Your husband picked up your slack when you got your ass canned. Since he wasn't around as much to cater to your whims you found some younger guy at your new job to get a 'wide on' for. You found some guy a few years older than your kids that gave you the tingles and you wanted to fuck (or already were fucking) and were annoyed when your husband didn't jump on board the open relationship idea you blindsided him with. When you couldn't convince him to hop on board your idea, you threatened him with divorce rape. When he finally caves in on that, he has the audacity to actually find someone for an open relationship; you get pissy and jealous and make a half assed drama attempt at suicide. You drive him into the arms of someone better for him (and likely just better in general) and now you want him back so you can make his life miserable in new and "exciting" ways. What novel ideas does anyone have where I threaten or manipulate him to get him back chained to me? Are there any mind control drugs out there I can buy? How about a love potion? How can I convince him to get a lobotomy?

You were selfish and wanted lustful sex from other men when in your own words you said your husband satisfied you but non of the other men did. You just wanted to go out and have sex with other people, your husband wanted love and respect. He may still love but he does not respect you, because when a wife tells her husband that she wants to she other men. You basically have crush his manhood and when a woman that woman may never be able to get that man to love or respect her again.
You just may have lost your husband. The worst part of it you did not just cheat with the 25yr old but multiple one night stands. Your husband will never respect you again I am sorry to tell you this.
