For the first date I always take the girl for drinks at a nice hotel lounge-bar that is very close to my apartment. It is imo the ideal first date for the following reasons:

Some alcohol always makes it a little more relaxed.
Since music is playing, a short "awkward silence" doesn't get so awkward. However, the music is still at a volume where it is easy to talk to eachother, unlike a club.
If you really don't like the girl, or she feels that way about you, you can always just finish your drink and leave. If you're having food, what are you gonna do, leave in the middle of the meal? "Going out for some drinks" isn't a big deal, and it's not as big of a commitment as going out for dinner.
Even though some girls prefer pubs to lounge-bars, most girls appreciates getting a drink/a glass of wine at a nice lounge. If she's a beer drinker she can get a beer there as well.

Pool

Went on a date with my now girlfriend in a pool/billiard bar. She never played it, so I showed her (loads of kino opportunities) ! It's the perfect place for teasing and having a good conversation but still keep that easy going vibe to it all the while you're playing a game! Plus, you can have a drink if that makes you feel more comfortable. I won the first 2 games, she won the third; that was the perfect moment to leave. Right when we were out of the door I just went for the kiss and we made out for about half an hour at -5 degrees before we went to my place ;)

Don't judge by age, but I'm a 16 year old, I live with my parents

Usually take my girls ice skating on the first date, the rink is about 30 minutes by feet from the town I'm in

30 minutes walking to the rink, getting to know the girl. Ice skating is extremely fun, and teenage girls dig it, also tons of physical contact, then about 30 minutes walking back. On the way back it's usually dark, and there's a place where you have a view of the whole town, and it gets beautiful especially around the holidays, with the christmas lights on and stuff. I go in for the kiss here, 100% succes rate so far

I come off cheap, have a great time with her and everythings worked out fine so far.

So I've gone from never having a good date idea to having decent date ideas. I base it off of the city I live in, Albuquerque. There is plenty to do, but really the majority of the women and men I talked to have told me their dates have been dinner and a movie. It's fine here, not first date kinda thing, but second date, sure. Anyways, here's a list of things and places I started doing for dates. All in all, the only thing I do is have fun for me. I'll look online or in the local newspaper for events, and if it sounds interesting I'll go.

Jazz show, dance, movies, old movie theater, improv show, comedy show, concert, brewery tasting, wine tasting, shopping, people watching, coffee, tea, hiking, climbing, bicycling, mountain biking, yoga, mini-golf, go-carting, bumper boats, arcade, pinball, laser tag, homework, go to parks, museums and various museum exhibits, explore old town/historic district, go on a cruise in your car, chocolate shops, make food together, sky diving, paintball, visit river/lake/beach, volleyball, soccer, basketball/sports in general, play video games, go to the library, explore downtown, go for a short walk, drinks, pool, strip club (not recommended unless discussed), bbq, board games, friends parties, ice cream/gelato/yogurt, charity work, comic shops, thrift and antique shopping, to name a few.

One thing I like doing is picking places that are near or close to another place of interest. If you get dinner, then going out for ice cream afterwards isn't the best idea. Most of the time she'll say no anyways, but while at dinner, get a drink. Afterwards if you can go dancing. There have been several times I've been at restaurants where a small band is playing and people just eat and listen to it. I will be the first to jump up and dance, and I suck at dancing. Even if my date doesn't want to dance, I keep a positive attitude and she'll usually join me, then others start to join in as well.

If you go get coffee, stay and chat or take the coffee and go somewhere with it, if there is a park nearby go there. Go sit on the swings or lay in the grass.

One things I've learned that is always a plus is just taking a stroll with her, it can be a short stroll or a nice walk but it helps. Take her arm or her hand and take her places. Just keep in mind her shoes (heels suck in grass, or if it's an open shoe and it's cold out staying outside isn't enjoyable. When you open the door for her place her arm on her back letting her in. Now, I say this as a chump who always opens the door for people.. this helps a lot. I've many times back when I was younger open the door for my date, then all the sudden I'm opening the door for several other people and then my date looks at me like "uhm.. wtf" I always open the door for her, keep a close proximity to her, and place my arm around/behind her as a block so others don't jump in, then I'll jump right behind her. I know this seems like common sense, but for me it wasn't.

Always enjoy yourself. Don't take her mini-golfing if you hate mini-golf, but if you end up going mini-golfing enjoy yourself and have fun out of the situation.

Be informative or be curious. What I mean by this is if you go to the dinosaur museum and you know a shitload about dinosaurs, be a tour guide! It's impressive and showing passion for something you care about is always a good thing. I don't give a shit if it's stamps, if you like something, own that shit.

Be curious. You're at a new place, maybe it has some history to it, or something interesting about it that peaks your curiosity. Well find out about it. For example, I took a date to the old town area and there was a statue of a man with a plaque with the story behind the statue. I read it, we talked about it, that conversation trailed off, the conversation always kept flowing. Also I've done research before our date then mention it during the date. One of my favorite lines is "So I was reading up about this before our date and.." It shows you were looking forward to the date with her, that you care about where you're going, and you're not boring.

I hope this helps. I'm still working on my first cup of coffee and I'm a bit exhausted after covering shifts for coworkers. If you want I can add onto this later.

Anyone else loathe coffee dates? Maybe it's that I'm in NYC, or have had female coworkers complain about them, but coffee dates are bizarre to me (especially when there are no additional planned venues to make moves to)

Baking class, then coffee? Okay, now we're talking. Going out for 200mg of stimulant to fuel a potentially awkward first meeting? I'll default to a lot of other things first.

It's been said a few times on this thread, but to add to the discussion, first dates are always cocktails, save a few extenuating situations. I like to find a place with good side food dishes, as well. Be sure to have vegetarian-options at the ready, as well as more classic ones. Grilled cheese, amazing hummus, oysters, kebab are the things my four favorite places have as classic go-tos

Also, if it's winter and you can find a venue with a fireplace (bonus for privacy) you'll get some serious points (especially when paired with drinks + good food)

I'm a 20 year old who lives in the suburbs, so my options are somewhat limited.

My standard is: dinner, pool, dvd at my place.

Other dates:

coffee, walk in park, video games at my place

lunch, mini-golf, "come check this thing out" at my place.

checking out christmas lights, snowball fight, etc

I like to do one activity for talking, one activity that is competitive or active, and then one activity that is in a private setting.

I don't like to get too complicated. I used to do long dates that would last minimum two hours, I've moved away from that. I live five blocks from my college campus, so I typically bring girls to get coffee, bubble tea, then invite back to my apartment. I don't like to get too elaborate initially because I want to be close to my place if I feel like the iron is hot. Why add complications if its unnecessary? You can always add things in. Before I had this eleborate routine, meet, walk, get gelato, walk to playground, sit down, playful stories, scheduled kino "checkpoints," eventually ending up at my place. lol.

Other ideas I've tried are walking to a park looking over the water, bussing to get gelato and walking through the nearby outdoor shopping center that has cool christmas lights year round. I've found the simple coffee/ice cream/bubble tea is the best, but I live close to all three. :P

Geocaching (I'd also recommend geocaching as a hobby. It'll show you some great locations around your town or city that you probably never even knew existed. You can then take future dates to these places.
Arcade. Arcades are still a lot of fun regardless of your age.
Walk in the park. Good for a cheap first date but is best coupled with something like grabbing coffee.
Museum. Museums are really cool places and super fun to explore. Most museums also have a cafe where you can get some lunch, too.
Minigolf. Took my girlfriend to a minigolf place recently. It was so much fun and I am definitely doing it again. Only cost a few bucks for an hour's entertainment.

one of my most successful seasonal dates is haunted houses. Lots of opportunities for kino, gets the girls heart pumping a bit and girls are more likely to confuse fear or being scared for attraction.

It really doesn't matter. As long as you're fun and interesting you can do anything for a date. I've done everything form skipping stones, to concerts, to volunteer work, to sex clubs, and everything in between. it honestly doesn't matter. The girl is only concerned with the takeaway: Did I have fun with this guy?

She doesn't give a shit about the cafe, or the bar, or shawarma's. As long as she enjoyed your company you're golden.

And I really want to emphasize something because too many of you are nooooot toooo swift. This is a huge subreddit. There are a lot of people that read this, and it gets passed along. Any unique date ideas, strats, etc that get shared here, are going to expire very quickly. It's why the really good stuff is kept offline. It's almost pointless to take any direct ideas for granted. Look how fast women started catching on to the game back when that form of pickup was king. And the internet wasn't as well traversed back then. Don't do direct suggestions from a place of this size. You'll end up just getting caught and showing the girl you have no originality or thoughts of your own.

My go-to dates:

shooting range (it's exciting, memorable, and often a new experience for the girl)
climbing gym
on nice days, a walk in the park is fine. Maybe follow it up with some ice cream of a drink afterwards.
bowling (it's one of those things that is so fuckin' lame it's cool. Plus the spot near me is actually a fun bar/billiards hall/bowling alley all in one)
science center

and of course the tried and true:

coffee (or drinks if she's 21+). A chill spot with board games for patrons is usually a winner

Recently I started a date out with a game of tennis, and the loser had to buy drinks at a bar afterwards. Won't be right for every girl (esp if they love to make-up) but in this case it worked well and went home with her. Not much close contact or chat but plenty of opportunities to be cocky and then get to know afterwards. For the record I lost the match.

Similar to the 16 year old that ice skates I am 25 years old and live at my parents. I use to have this bother me however I've gotten over it.

I usually take a girl out to Gyu Kaku which is a restaurant/bar where you cook your own food and have cheap drinks. It's always happy hour there so it's cheap on the wallet.

After this, I take her back to my parents house and ask if she's ever ridden a fixie bike. This is something I like to do myself so I ask her if she'd like to learn. Most girls know how to ride a bike but never a fixed gear.

I put her on the handle bars and we ride around the block.

I have her lean back and we just cruise. It involves a lot of laughter, touching.

Around this time I kiss her. If I can escalate enough I sneak her on a golf course and go from there.

In the girls head I'm sure this is such a big adventure. For me, I've done this plenty of times so I play it very cool.

I've been doing board game cafes lately. Good atmosphere for convos. Can focus on the game at times so you don't have to fear silence. Can make fun of her lack of Jenga tower skillz. Usually lots of laughs and is relatively cheap.

First date, I take them hiking to some volcanoes we have here in my city, the walk is not far at all and it's lots of fun. After about 1.5hrs, on the way back, there's this view where you can see the entire city and we park there and I do lots of kino and go in for the kiss there. After another 30min-1hr, I take them to a local skate park that's also on the way and we just chill, talk, kino, smoke weed.

One date idea (this was 3rd date) that girl was very impressed with was this. It was a nice fall day and I picked her up at a designated meeting place with my motorcycle.

I had picked up couple sandwiches from Panera and brought a quilt from home and kept it in the saddle bags. We took a ride around the town enjoying the fall foliage. Eventually we arrived at a grass knoll in a park overlooking the potomac river. I parked the bike and set down the quilt and took out the food and we just chatted and ate. After we finished our food we walked along the edge of the water and then I kissed her for the first time.

After walking back we laid on the quilt and looked up at the clouds and tried to guess what kind of shapes they were making. Laying down + Grass + Nice Day = nice makeout session.

She was like butter afterwards.

The Arcade & Boardwallk.

If you're like me and you like to get down and weird, the arcade is the best place to have fun and get down! Have fun, be silly and show you're a fun person. Throw some walking around and maybe some beach time and it's pretty personal and romantic.

Depends on the girl and interests but I always rely on go-kart racing. Its only $20 bucks here (SF area) and its the high-speed ones, not the family fun types. I drive her there, talk on the way, chances are its her first time so shes really excited, adrenaline filled, great way to propose a bet, tease her, etc. Afterwards we go out to grab a quick bite at food trucks (around here they always have events with several notable food trucks) and talk a bit. Lastly, drinks and/or walking around.

I just wanted to add Geocaching. Geocaching is pretty fun and they are literally millions (2 million to be exact). In my experience, if things seem to be hitting a lull there is always one nearby wherever I am (bar, restaurant, etc). It's especially fun when the person youre with has no idea what geocache is and when you find one it usually blows their mind that there are little treasures hidden everywhere!

A date idea I've had for a while, but never used:

take her out for breakfast, then maybe a matinee, This give you the food and the entertainment, but then you also have the rest of the day to spend together just doing whatever you want, and your not stressed for time like at the end of night dates. also, a lot of other things are open, like shopping malls and sunny beaches or hiking trails.

Go to the mall. Tons of stores present a bunch of opportunities for convo topics. Not only that, but you see what she likes and dislikes. There's also usually a food court of some kind in most malls.
