I subscribe to you folks about just as much because I'm interested in body language as I am in girls. But I've noticed a lot of the discussion on posture/body language is focused on situations where you're standing (bar, walking, etc.). This is good for when you first meet some girls and are just standing around in the middle of the floor. But what about later at night? What if you end up alone in fancy sitting room, or head out to chill on the beach for a bonfire? Chances are, when you finally get a girl alone to chat with, you'll be sitting. So I thought I'd put in my personal thoughts on how to sit like a champ, and I'd appreciate any additional thoughts.

Sitting on Chairs

Just look at Don Draper. Seriously, there's a reason this guy has sex 3 times an episode of Mad Men. Keep one foot firmly planted on the ground, and the other ankle resting on your knee. This is called 'four-cross' position, because your legs roughly resemble a bent 4. Rest one hand on your other knee, and use the other to hold your drink/gesture/etc. Lean back a little an rest your arm behind you Draper-style; you don't want to look stiff. You should look casual, relaxed, but entirely in charge. You're a king surveying his domain.

The Only downside to you and a girl sitting down on chairs is you won't be able to get a lot of kino in. So sit down for a drink, and when you're done stand up and walk back to the bar with your hand at her back.

Sitting on a Couch

I don't have a lot to say on this one; usually when I'm sitting on a couch with a girl we're already pretty comfortable with each other. If we're not at a cuddling/rest her head on my shoulder stage, I try to face her slightly, still in 4-cross position, and rest one arm on the back of the couch, facing her. If any of you guys has better advice I'd love to put it up here.

Sitting on the Ground

If you're just hanging out with buddies or a large group, just cross your legs. In my experience most people will want to switch position every few minutes because they get uncomfortable or their leg falls asleep. Try to control this urge. If you find yourself always having this problem, try to stretch more and build up your back/ab muscles. If you're just with a girl, and especially if you're outside, start by crossing your legs but in a minute or too lie down and put your hands behind your head; look at the sky. This shows you're at ease with her, and if she's comfortable around you, she'll lie down too shortly after. If she turns so she's lying down on her belly, looking at you, that's a great sign. she likes you, she's comfortable, and she wants to be able to look at you while you two talk.

Again, this is mostly personal experience, but I've also learned a bit from what every Body tells you.

DON'T

Slouch.

Fidget. I have to stop by foot from tapping all the time; it makes me look nervous.

Switch position constantly. Makes you look either nervous or anxious to leave. Remember, you want to look as at ease as possible.

Cross your arms. This makes you look defensive, just like it does when you're standing.

Cross your legs lady-style. This will make you look like a prick and/or gay, unless you're otherwise completely comfortable and confident. Research shows that guys tend to sit with their legs spread or 4-crossed so they take more space for themselves. Women (or insecure men) will cross their legs tightly to avoid taking up as much space as possible.
