If anyone is interested in learning about the Diamond industry I would suggest checking out Netflix’s series called Explained. They have a great episode on diamonds (as well as many other great topics like monogomy, the female orgasm, mental health topics, plastic surgery) that talks about the cultural significance we place on the Diamond as well as some of sketchier business practices over the past 100 years. It’s only 25 mins and totally worth it!

Be it a diamond or other precious gem, I can’t resist the urge to hoard them like a dragon protecting its shinies lol.

From a historical perspective, jewels used to be a woman’s only asset. Men owned all the property and the family money. That’s why men would give jewelry as a gift, so his wife wouldn’t be penniless if he died or she chose to leave him. Providing that insurance was the ultimate form of romance. I believe that’s where the tradition of engagement rings originated.

I hope my ancestors are high-fiving each other at my collection of jewelry I don’t even need for financial survival.

What are everyone thoughts on the whole Diamond is a scam debate?

Really curious what FDS think of this because we seen post where we want engagement rings worth x amount. Then I have heard of how many people from other platforms/forums are against diamonds because of how it’s mined unethically and that it’s all a marketing tactic.

My husband bought me a diamond but he thinks it’s a scam as well and there are better investments out there. But yet he frown upon lab grown diamonds because from his view, if he’s going to propose, might as well get the real thing. But then again people also argue lab grown are “real”. Thoughts?
