Can we not just identify anything anymore as bad or harmful?? Do we have to normalize and rationalize every insane thing?? How about tell your kids that porn is just gross and not something you ever want to normalize. Talk to them about how it is exploitative and harmful. Talk about it to your kids in the same manner that you would warn them about drugs and alcohol. How about telling them that it’s out there and it’s everywhere now but that it’s not something that is ok or healthy. How about make that video.

I’m a mother of two boys and we have had these conversations just like I’ve talked to them about opiates, weed and drinking and driving. All of this shit is in their world so you address it and open it up to talk about. I’ve never once felt the need to smoke or drink with my child. JFC.

Why is the default treating porn like it's air or water? We don't need it!!!!!! It's interesting in a dark way to me how women as a class have essentially given up in the last 20 years or so on the subject of porn.

I remember an innuendo studios video on political views saying something along the lines of 'we think action follows belief but typically, belief follows action'. Society has gotten so desensitised to the idea of teens consuming porn that we've had to assume that teens consuming porn is actually healthy and normal - but instead of wondering why the porn they watch is so suspiciously awful, some of the response has been to try to educate kids alongside the porn they watch, or curate or create porn that is more 'healthy' or whatever.

Because the idea that teenagers across the globe are having their worldviews shaped in their vital formative years by compulsively watching the most misogynistic mass media available - and barely in secret no less, is such a terrifying concept that I think women have had to convince themselves that it's all OK, actually, and that it can be fixed with EdUCaTIoN. Their enabling is awful, but it's also really sad. Imagine being deeply so terrified that your son can become a monster with so little effort.
