While I'm quite upset that it was shut down this isn't a men's rights issue. The votes were manipulated with scripts and its obvious that the guy was more than just a fan but a guy that would have been inappropriate. Once again I say I wish it wasn't shut down but I understand where they're coming from.

His main motivation for wanting to see Taylor Swift, as I recall from the thread, was to smell her hair. This is very creepy, you shouldn't treat him like a Men's Rights martyr. A middle-aged woman who wanted to smell a teenager's hair would be just as creepy.

If it was something innocent like wanting to meet an artist who made your favorite songs, while being fat and bearded, that'd be fine. But he wanted to see her for incredibly creepy reasons, and 4chan voted for him with the goal of trolling teenagers out of their dreams of meeting one of their favorite artists.

Can't believe some think this is a Men's Rights issue. I wish such people who came here after the subreddit of the day bump would stop posting. I liked this subreddit better back then.

And so are Twilight Moms, twentysomething Beliebers, and women who write fanfiction which eroticizes child abuse (yes, it happens, far too often (for proof, google 'snarry')).

That said, yes, there is a double standard which treats female sexuality as harmless-and-thus-should-not-be-restrained and male sexuality as vile-and-bestial-and-predatory-and-threatening. Female sexuality is seen as harmless innocent fun.

Even back in the Bad Old Days, female sexuality's harmfulness was typically conceived of in terms of how it excited male sexuality. They were temptresses who made MEN victims of INNATE MALE URGES. Look at the Burqua - it is designed to keep women obscured from the predatory gaze of presumed-to-be-rape-apes men.

So this "female sexuality is by-itself harmless" thing is actually perfectly consistent with the traditional gender system.
