These are making the rounds today and many are saying they're exactly how all rape campaigns should be. What do YOU folks think?

On the bright side, it shows plenty of non-rapist men!

But on the negative side, it simply places those men in the traditional patriarchial role of Protectors Of Wholesome Innocent Fragile Womanhood.

Instead of drooling rape-beasts, men are 'upgraded' to white knights.

And nowhere is it acknowledged that men can be raped too. Or that females can commit rape.

So whilst it is SLIGHTLY better than the traditional kinds of rape campaign, it still has big flaws. And it still swallows the gender-traditional kool-aid.

I am a woman and mother of two sons 18 and 23 yrs old. I find these totally insulting on all levels and akin to having the "warning may contain nuts" text on tins of NUTS! The campaign that SHOULD be going around is one that speaks to men and women equally about BEING RESPONSIBLE when they drink.

This campaign is like handing a "get out of jail free" card to ALREADY irresponsible women and saying "hey, don't worry, drink till you almost pass the f*ck out, it's cool cuz there's bound to be some nice person there to take care of your drunk ass and get you home ok."

It's other useless AND negative result is an attempt to shame those of us who ARE responsible into thinking that being responsible for ourselves isn't good enough, we need to take responsibility for those people who CHOOSE not to do it for themselves.

I have been utterly floored at the unanimous negative responses I've gotten to the suggestion that if you choose to drink alcohol until you are mentally and physically incapacitated, it is at least partially your fault if something bad happens to you. How is this not common sense?

What I don't care for about it is the way it portrays women as small children with poor judgement who essentially need a nanny, preferably a male one. If anything creates a rape culture, it's that.

I thought these were pretty good. it wasn't a heavy handed "men are the devil" thing, it was a nice "look out for your friends" sort of thing.

but omg look at all the hamstering in this thread. you guys will find a reason to hate anything, won't you? the posters all had the theme of "women can get raped if they get trashed," not "if you aren't a women, you can't get raped." also, the vast majority of female rape victims were raped by men, are you against describing the typical scenario?

I appear to be a minority, but I kind of like these ads. They obviously can be improved upon (chiefly by addressing the fact that they only concern male on female rape), but they suggest that rape prevention is and should be a cultural movement rather than just blaming the rapist.

Before anyone downvotes me for that last statement, let me explain: Though a rapist's actions are solely the decision of the rapist, there are often times things that potential victims and bystanders can do to prevent the act from happening. Knowing that, and being aware of a potential rape, I feel that it is the moral responsibility of knowing bystanders to act in some way to prevent it from happening.

Similarly, if someone were to be at a gas station and were to see a thief attempting to rob the place, I feel that they should be morally obligated to act in some way to prevent it (or at least try to get an accurate description of the criminal to report to police). Inaction in this example would be unethical in my opinion (of course, I would never suggest that someone put their own life at risk, say, if the thief were to be holding the clerk at gunpoint).

These ads are advocating for society to discourage rape, and though it's clearly directed against male on female rape, the message about rape in general is valid, I think.

It can be summed up simply as traditional conservative notions about womans agency and personal responsibility being nonexistent and how of course only women need protection.
