Now that is clever. He either discovered, or created a situation where they treated him with inferior service to the other patrons in addition to kicking him out. It will only add weight to his case.

Completely ignorant on local laws in cali. Can bars/clubs not hold specific events based on whatever they want? Do they need to apply for a license or some kind of event permit before doing this kind of thing?

Or is any event classed as discrimination if they use a defining feature? Like "Gay night", "Man night", "Ladies night" etc, would all be against the law?

Clearly the bar is in the wrong for breaking the law here, and should be punished. But I don't understand why there will be a lawsuit involved where the guy gets money, rather than this being reported and the establishment being punished with a fine or something by the government.

The guy clearly went there with the purpose of suing them to make money, noone can say that he is in any way hurt by this. I can't help but equate this to people who jump in front of cars with the purpose of suing the driver...

I know what the bar did was wrong and should be punished for it, I just don't think the guy should be rewarded.

I don't see what the big deal is here. If I should ever got to a restaurant like this (I wouldn't), I simply would give a 0% tip. When confronted by the waitress, I would say "I already paid your tip. Take it up with your manager."
