Imagine being a woman so scared of being falsely accused of sexual assault that you can’t have a meeting alone with men.
[–]HerbHandsBill 134 points135 points136 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
About a year ago I had a red pilled female manager at my work state that the men should never have a 1 on 1 closed door meeting with a female subordinate in order to protect the men from false accusations. She said we need to leave the door open or bring in another manager as a witness to the meetings so we started doing that. I guess because it was a female manager’s idea it can’t be sexist.

While stupid, this does decrease the risk of problems.
[–]DJ-Roukan 25 points26 points27 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't see it as stupid at all, not in the age of MeToo, where a man is fired based on accusation alone.
I've seen it too many times to put myself at risk.
The woman was truly trying to protect the men in the only way we currently can, because if accused, it is out of her hands and goes right to HR.
We used to worry about women being alone with a male they don't know, we now worry about men being alone in a room with a woman...both predicated upon feminist hype and dogma.
These crazy people need to be put out of the conversation.
[–]essentialfloss 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
By stupid I mean I wish it wasn't necessary, and it's a symptom of a major societal problem.

wasn't there a female actor who falsely accused a random guy of rape just because he passed her by in the middle of a busy train station ? it was in london i think... Even if there are many witnesses in a public place and camera filming it, they will find a way to make false accusations
[–]Bigmiga 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A female colleague said a similar thing to me, I was teeling about a time when I took a drunk girl from my year home after a birthday party, I didn't even leave the car, as I knew her poorly just did it because was the only with a car and her house was on my way. She said to never do that again alone, always take some other people as witness, in case the girl accuses me of anything. Her boyfriend and his friends took a girl home, she was laying down in the street, piss drunk, when she arrived at the building she started screaming that she was being taken and that they wanted to rape her. Luckly the building doorman knew her and said to them that she does that all the time she is drunk. They dodge a bullet, but it could be much worse.
[–]HerbHandsBill 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They did dodge a bullet!
Back when I was in college over 10 years ago. My roommates and I had a party at our place and this hammered girl was trying to laid... we were all drunk too but she was wasted. She tried with me, I had a gf so I passed, she tried with my best friend, he had a gf so he passed. Then we had a ugly roommate who did not do well with women. Well he ended up banging her that night and in the morning she started telling people she was raped.
Now I didn’t watch what went down between her and my roommate but she was legit trying to get fucked from what I saw, all over me and my friend so we found it hard to believe it was rape and not, “I was too drunk to remember last night and I just I can’t believe I fucked this guy willingly so he must have raped me”.
Luckily nothing ever came from it, my roommate was obviously petrified and claimed it was consensual.
I guess this ended up just being one more instance of sexual assault that didn’t get reported /s

For fuck's sake... We can laugh at edited youtube videos featuring Hitler complain about sports teams losing, but we can't laugh at situational comedy featuring a man being sexually harassed in the workplace?
Also... If your female boss or hiring manager hits on you in the workplace despite your lack of reciprocation or initiation, but you also obviously would fuck her brains out, is it still sexual harrassment or naw?
Asking for a friend. Please advise.
[–]AEHIILRS30 points 7 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
Are we doing the regular deconstruction of edgy humor already?
You can make fun of a perpetrator. You can find humor in the act itself being contextually absurd. Don't make fun of a victim.
We can laugh at edited youtube videos featuring Hitler complain about sports teams losing
Yes, making fun of Hitler by putting ridiculous subtitles on a video of a historical speech or movie scene hits both of the first two and is potentially good comedy.
we can't laugh at situational comedy featuring a man being sexually harassed in the workplace
Depends. Are we being invited to laugh at the victim?
That would be sexual harassment in most companies.
Such behaviour creates an appearance of impropriety and may give other employees the impression that their success or failure within the company depends on their receptivity to , or even merely tolerance of, her unprofessional behaviour.
It also creates an environment where such unprofessionalism may escalate, so even if it may seem harmless at the level of tolerated (and secretly enjoyed) flirting, that level forms the foundation of additional behaviours that may be a liability to the company.

Naw. The jokes were on the women. It was kind of like social commentary too. Audience members were supposed to feel bad for Schmidt.

Let me clarify... I obviously literally want this particular woman to sexually flirt with me and fuck my brains out. Not a hypothetical, fantasy of mine, but a literal want. Yes, it's kind of rapey af on her part, but that's besides the point. Still sexual harrassment or naw?
[–]nottheprimeminister 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
I'm not OP, and I'd like to think your question is in good faith. I welcome discourse or correction.
There's two things at play: what consent was given, and what the company allows.
On the topic of consent, the argument can absolutely be made that because she's your boss and therefore in a position of power, consent can't really be given. There's a separation of power between you two and she holds a lot of the cards - it's a difficult thing to determine. If you said no, she could find ways to undermine you in your job. Can you have sex with your boss with given consent? Of course, but these things matter.
If you told her explicitly, in no uncertain terms, in a place where you were comfortable to do so, where you would feel no repercussions for not giving consent for something she made the first move on, that her moves were appreciated by you, naw, no assault. Until that exact conversation had happened, yes, it's sexual assault. She's acting without your consent and going far and beyond the typical boss-employee relationship. It's up to you to determine if you want to make it the problem you have every right to make.
The responsibility is on the person acting to ensure consent is granted, and it's up to both parties to make sure no boundaries are crossed. It's just the decent thing to do - make sure the other person is down to party. If either party is not, then everything stops. Your boss, or you. Either one or both of you are allowed to change your mind. Either you or her should face repercussions for continuing to act when the other party is no longer willing.
Then there's company policy, which is an entirely different can of worms that I realise in typing this that I really have no authority to speak on.
sorry for this being so wordy.

I want the older woman interviewing me to sexually harass and "rape" me (since, according to you, I can't give consent). Also, I do not want for her to ask for permission. I literally want for her to rape me.

Being "kind of rapey" during a hiring interview is probably going to run afoul of most company's policies for dealing with sexual harassment, yes.

[–]GuyWithTheStalker 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Ehhhh... No. It absolutely does not indicate that. All ot indicates is that I would absolutely be down to have that specific older woman have her way with me and that that one specific instance was used for allropriate comedic effect in a situational comedy. Besides, I'm talking about my life, not all men.

Don't you find it a bit sad when people just quote some character from some TV show or make mention of some "thing" from a video game like it's part of the zeitgeist and is an obvious reference in the vein of "am I right heh heh heh?"
Like, these people get all of their deep thoughts and parameters of reference every night from a Family Guy rerun.
I always think, "Way to add to the conversation. Care to share any other thoughts that were handed to you by a cartoon?"
[–]NareFare 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The people who write those shows are usually very smart and progressive. The jokes and premises of those episodes may be very dumb, but to read between the lines and find morals in art (I consider TV shows art) is a good way to appreciate television. Also just because something is expressed in an animation doesnt necessarily take away from the potency of its message. You can potentially learn a lot from fictional characters and stories.

Perhaps because her original comment about not caring if men were falsely accused, and her follow-up saying it was a price she was willing to pay, received a lot of coverage, and probably contributed to the situation she's now complaining about.
Kind of like how feminists complained that not enough women were in education, and now they're the majority they complain that women have most of the student debt.

It's not that it isn't a problem, but the implication is not the same, right? I know this is probably a controversial opinion for this subreddit, but a woman who could easily beat the shit out of you felt comfortable publicly hitting on you despite you obviously showing you weren't interested is necessarily different than a small woman doing the same thing. A man might be believed, but the likely situation is much less theoretically dangerous for the man and more of an inconvenience as long as they aren't displaying additional worrying behaviors. Harassment/gender/sex/whateverthefuck is nuanced and equality doesn't mean people are the same. A lot of people are overly sensitive to this situation, but some woman comically oversimplifying an issue doesn't mean we should do the same.
[–]Odz2427 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is nonsense. If Ronda Rousey was the victim of some sexual misconduct by Danny Devito, you wouldn’t say “the implication is not the same” nor would anyone else. The fact that Rousey would be in the role of physically dominant typically held by men wouldn’t change anything.
Yes the physical dynamics are different between the genders but wrong is wrong. You’re just arguing for preferential treatment for women, plain and simple.
[–]Mantequilla_Stotch 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women can do damage if they want to physically abuse you. Also men don't usually fight back, not because they are stronger, but because they would be the ones going to jail. So, how is it ok for a woman to abuse my person physically or sexually because I may genetically have more strength than her?
[–]Wonkybonky 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's not that it isn't a problem, but the implication is not the same, right? ... Harassment/gender/sex/whateverthefuck is nuanced and equality doesn't mean people are the same.

You can file a suit for discrimination/retaliation probably. Women can/do fight it out in courts all the time to advocate for themselves without surety of getting justice, and it's something men should be more willing to pursue as well. It's part of being strong.

The other thing is that men do *not* have the power in most workplaces to say "I don't want to have meetings alone with women." You have to be politically correct and make it de facto but never openly admit that you're deliberately avoiding closed meetings with women. If you are honest about that, you'll get harangued with charges of sexism.

Guys. This seems to have hit a nerve on these sexist bigots. Which means, we should do a lot more of it.
Go Mike Pense all the way. Exclude women from any situation where they can become personal with you. Seems to be their primary door to manipulation, so the door shall be closed then.
It seems that they are trying to protect their bread and butter, like a parasite who complains why the host is not available enough to be taken advantage of. So this indicates, we are onto something.

Lindin sent out these tweets in 2017:
Here’s an unpopular opinion: I’m actually not at all concerned about innocent men losing their jobs over false sexual assault/harassment allegations. False allegations VERY rarely happen, so even bringing it up borders on a derailment tactic. It’s a microscopic risk in comparison to the issue at hand (worldwide, systemic oppression of half the population). The benefit of all of us getting to finally tell the truth + the impact on victims FAR outweigh the loss of any one man’s reputation. If some innocent men’s reputations have to take a hit in the process of undoing the patriarchy, that is a price I am absolutely willing to pay.

Her tweets and the subsequent backlash were widely reported at the time, and no doubt contributed to fears that Metoo was turning into a witch hunt. As a result, men today are less likely to mentor women or conduct one-on-ones behind closed doors—the very situation that she now complains about.

[–]problem_redditor 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Men's rights have no history of doing good things for men, their history is solely complaining about things online.
Oh, but who blocks the MRAs who are trying to get anything done? Feminists do. They point fingers and call us misogynists and manbabies who just don't like that women have rights. They protest against our speeches and anything we do to raise awareness. They protest against anything we attempt to change. They outright send death threats to anyone who challenges their narrative (see Erin Pizzey).
Then they say "oh they haven't done anything for men except complain". Right. Why do you think that is? Because you and your hysterical fucking feminist sisters have attempted to block any and all progress that we've tried to make.
[–]problem_redditor 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
This whole place is a massive echo chamber, get outside of it. You all sit here and judge feminism by what you see on twitter and facebook and then complain when people judge men's rights activists based on what they are seeing on twitter and reddit.
Really. We hate feminists because of what we see "on twitter and facebook". Really.
Here's one example (out of the many) of why we don't like feminists:
Feminists created the Duluth Model of domestic violence, which assumes that men are aggressors and women are victims. It characterises domestic violence as "patriarchal terrorism" and characterises any domestic violence committed by women as "violent resistance" towards an abuser.
Feminists wanted to protect the Duluth Model so badly that they protested against the founder of the first internationally recognised women's shelter. Her name was Erin Pizzey and the reason why feminists disliked her is because she believed that both men and women were capable of DV, and that it was not a primarily "man on woman" crime. She eventually had to flee England with her children after all the protests, threats, and violence.
And despite many, many, studies showing gender symmetry in DV, the Duluth model is widely accepted. Due to the erroneous viewpoint that Duluth has created, billions of dollars are spent around the world on women's refuges and there is near to nothing for men. The owner of the only men's shelter in Canada, Earl Silverman, committed suicide due to his financial ruin after he was unable to keep the shelter through his own funds and meagre private donations. Because the government of Canada didn't allocate sufficient funds for his and other projects directed at male victims.
Even worse than this is that the Duluth Model has been used in many countries to train police and other officers of the court to identify the man as the abuser. This has led to a huge amount of male victims of DV being ignored, and in a huge amount of cases they are arrested after their female abusers make false accusations against them.
Despite what you can say about MRA postings on the internet, the fact remains that MRAs have not done anything as far reaching or as damaging and discriminatory as this. And I'm sorry to say this, but it doesn't matter a single bit what your feminist friends believe. Because as far as I know they're not doing anything to make things more equal, while in the meantime their hysterical peers are successfully lobbying our institutions for policies and procedures that are damaging and illogical.
FYI there is a SHIT TONNE more bashing of women on the internet than there is bashing of men.
Fucking lol, give me a statistic for this or I'll treat this assertion with all the seriousness it deserves.

[–]qp0n 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Notice how it's all about power. How clear does it need to be made in these kinds of statements before people realize feminism is no longer about equality, it's about power. It's why you dont hear a peep about seeking an equal ratio of plumbers, but feminists cant shut up about seeking an equal ratio of CEOs.

the worst part is that morons like her are just as detrimental to women as the guys who sexually assault them, because why would they ever have a groom a female protege when simply being alone with her is a risk. while I haven't yet had a real job, I think that a lot of businessmen occasionally like informal settings, so a business dinner or meeting for coffee could be hazardous

Why is 'how it affects women' always considered worse than 'how it affects men'. It's like that with false accusations too. People say 'the worst part is that it hurts women making real accusations' and treats men like the they are less affected by false accusations than women.

I am involved in a public service org where I work with teenage minors. We have a "3 person" rule that is gender blind (never be alone with a minor regardless of your or their gender) that is effectively carved in stone and beaten into your skull.
I've carried over the concept to my work life. It doesn't just protect against Sexual accusations, but also favoritism accusations, rumor mill in general, "miscommunications" ( People suddenly understand you better when there's a 3rd party there who may or may not side with them in a disagreement), and it fosters better teamwork, because now I'm mentoring pairs and groups and teams instead of just individuals.
IMHO One-on-one mentoring is overhyped, and is now potentially lethal to your career. Ditch it.

[–]Philletto 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
We don't need 2 genders in the workplace, feminists would prefer a female only space and MGTOW would prefer a male only space. There is nothing wrong or unnatural about this, 100 years ago this was very common in western society. People can also choose to work for a mixed sex business. That’s fine, Emily. I don’t want private meetings with any woman in the workplace, be they superiors or subordinates.
Women like this will be single forever, or change teams. Either way, NO LOSS to society if this one never reproduces.
If that womans reasoning was: "I am scared of false accusations, the public will side with the man even without proof" then she would have my full support.
Wow. That would be power tantamount to men being able to say "women belong in the kitchen". Good brains there Emily.
For god sake, don't hire women, is that simply.
Christ, I wouldn't have a meeting if she was the only woman there. It could end up a false gangrape accusation.

What???? I’ve held literally hundreds of meetings with only men. Wtf? Never once has it occurred to me to discriminate against them

In 2017 Emily Lindin's contribution to the MeToo debate was to send out a series of tweets saying that she didn't care if innocent men were falsely accused of rape, and that it was a price she [!] was willing to pay.
Since then there's been a decrease in the number of male managers willing to mentor female colleagues, socialise with them after work, conduct private meetings etc.
It's fair to say that Lindin and others like her are at least partially responsible for the situation that she's now complaining about.

There have been too many incidents of women and men being sexually harassed or sexually assaulted, and because of how many famous people are being exposed as pedophiles and rapists, I don’t blame anyone at all for feeling unsafe in a closed room with a man. Until we can all learn to control ourselves and act like decent human beings, it’s the only way to prevent accusations — whether they’re true or false.
"The only way to prevent accusations of police brutality, whether they're true or false, is for people to lean to not commit crimes." — You, probably.

I don't agree with falsely accusing but violent rape and sexual harrassment of women happens all the time. There may be immature femisnists here and there but culture does support objectifying women and women are not considered credible. I believe it was Aristotle who said women are defective males. Anything feminine in men is hated and so feminine women are hated too. This sexist culture started in the beginning, and hasn't completely disappeared.

Maybe maybe not
But a woman vould easily accuse a man of something because she feels abused. Even if the guy didnt do anything. Or just cuz shes mad. Having witnesses protects everybody involved
If men are such dangerous pigs then women should welcome the idea of never being alone with them

Maybe maybe not....Listen I'm a guy and guys rape and sexual harrass girls more than women lie about it.
[+]pixels527 -17 points-16 points-15 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
A man can easily say the accusation is not true, even if it is or is not. Even with enough evidence, men can get away with sexual harrassment in the work place and nothing changes. But like I said, I don't agree with falsely accusing. Most, if not all women in the workforce don't want the stigma of being the bitch feminist whistleblower bc it can hurt their chances of getting employment elsewhere. They've got to understand the aftermath and consider if it's a worthwhile risk. The never being alone issue scare, hurts opportunities for women bc then they are not trusted or promoted for that reason. It's not like i would wish these odds stacked against myself and other women who are just trying to support their families. there may be a few who have an inability to think things through and just act impulsively, I donno, but it would be small number. I'm more likely to try not to be alone with an employer bc they are probably worried, not bc I'm worried.

A man can deny an accusation all he wants, it still won't stop him from getting fired, his reputation destroyed and maybe getting charges all from the unproven word of a woman with an agenda. It costs less to a company to fight and lose a wrongful dismissal case than it is to have a sexual harassment case against them....both in money & public perception .
I feel that women have brought this in their own by being short sighted in their handling of false accusation cases. Instead of pushing for fair judgements based on actual evidence and being so flippant about the false accusation cases & demanding charges against the women who perpetrate them, they supported the quick/rash rushes to judgment without any factual basis. So now, men in power don't want to have solo meetings with women, don't want them on business trips and thus less women are being mentored & promoted. You can't blame men for not taking chances in light of how the landscape has changed.
[+]pixels527 -12 points-11 points-10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Men in power usually dont want women on business trips or in admin offices anyway. Taking chances? People, mostly guys, talk about not blaming the actions of a few on a whole group of people but that's where we are now, blaming all women.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Men shouldn't protect themselves against false accusations by staying out of situations where they could be falsely accused? Do you think women are justified in taking actions to protect themselves from rapists?
[–]orcscorper 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nobody is blaming all women. We have to be cautious around women, because we can't know what kind of woman we are dealing with until it's too late. Blame whoever you want for the current situation; any woman can destroy your life on a whim.

Fantastic. Any examples from this millenium, or the last millenium, or even the one before that? In the 21st century, men are seen as defective women.

If the woman says it was rape, then it was rape. The courts will believe her
Absolute rubbish. In the US only 40% of rape complaints to police result in a suspect even being interviewed. about three percent of valid rape complaints go to court. Two percent are found guilty of a felony.
("Valid complaints" means 8% of "unfounded" complaints are removed from the calculation first). Source: BJS
Nice guys won't go near most women anymore
More utter bullshit. I live near a huge high school and a university. I have a son and nieces aged from university to mid 20s. Many of the local houses are rented by students. I walk, run and cycle around a lot, and one of the pleasures in doing that is seeing happy young couples doing their thing as they always have done.
Not Chads and Staceys, not brazen risk-takers, not dates involving the exchange of money for attention. Not dates at all. Just ordinary, pleasant young people enjoying the company of their BF / GF. Slobbing through the supermarket shopping in their sweat pants, walking in the hills, biking to the pub, meeting on the library steps between lectures, catching up with friends at a bar, playing squash, gym-ing, sharing evening meals with their housemates, talking about work, visiting their parents, making music, playing video games, reading books with their feet touching, watching TV, arguing about politics. And breaking up and meeting new people and settling down and renovating houses. I've made a new friend who is 52 and hitting the dating market so I'll get an update on the current situation soon.
You don't have a political problem with MeToo, you have a personal psychiatric problem that a therapist can likely help you with.

You're spewing out unsupported statistics
If you knew anything about statistics you would recognise BJS and know "unsupported" is not a feasible thing to say about the hard numbers they collect from police and the courts. Which is why I quoted them to counter your grotesquely incorrect claim.
Do a google search on Why won't men ask women out anymore, or something similar, and you'll find quite a few results.
"Unsupported", you say?
I took your suggestion and read a few articles. Mostly filler, some interesting. I don't sink to video so that remains an unknown. But few statistics, and little reason to think the writers know about the world outside their own demographic.
Several people said dating is less common now. I can't comment, I never did that stuff. I'm a bit unusual so it worked much better for me to find partners through social networks and activities.
Many say there is a shift in some people away from dating to Tinder to find partners. But that is only for the fraction of people who use Tinder etc. They get a lot of airplay but there are heaps of people who are not interested in one - nighters or Tinder.
15% of U.S. adults report they have used online dating sites or mobile dating apps.
About one-in-five 18- to 24-year olds (22%) now report using mobile dating apps; in 2013, only 5% reported doing so. Even among Americans who have been with their spouse or partner for five years or less, fully 88% say that they met their partner offline–without the help of a dating site.

Yes depression is rising currently, if measured by suicide which in the US droppped from a high in 1993 down to a historic low around 2001 and has been rising steadily since, now being quite high. I don't know what other measures of depression show but I'd expect they are similar.
This has a lot of info on the "sex recession" and possible reasons for it. The facts do not line up with MeToo anxiety being the cause - it started long before then, MeToo is recent. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/12/the-sex-recession/573949/

Actually, I used to manage quite a few young women in their 20s and we worked in a male dominated field where there definitely was a fair share of slime balls. I always coached them to make sure that they never accepted a drink from anyone other than a waiter or bartender and that they always teamed up in pairs at events when I couldn’t be there with them.
[–]Rolten 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That might be a bit much. It's good that you care, but they're women mate, not kids who need a buddy when going to an event.

I always coached them to make sure that they never accepted a drink from anyone other than a waiter or bartender
This idea that this is a widespread thing men do to women is largely a myth. It's more common that women who claim to be drugged just drank more than they thought:
A study of more than 200 students revealed many wrongly blamed the effects of a "bad night out" on date-rape drugs, when they had just drunk excessively.
...
Earlier this year, Australian researchers found that not one of 97 young men and women admitted to hospital over 19 months to two Perth hospital claiming to have had their drinks spiked, had in fact been drugged.
Edit: some downvoter is triggered by facts I guess.

Which in itself could be construed as creepy behaviour. Making sure that the young ladies stick by your side "for their protection".
Not saying you were deliberately creeping, but it sure could be spun that way if someone had a grudge.
[+][deleted] -9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, no, more of the buddy system.
I worked in healthcare (a female dominated profession) for a long time in both a clinical and professional capacity. I can tell you this, there are just as many slime ball women as men. I've dealt with female coworkers sleeping their way to the top and proud of it, I've dealt with many many many unwanted advances from women, who, become outright vicious when you decline them, I've made the mistake of trusting female coworkers who turn around and stab you in the back as soon as they are able to leap frog you.
This isn't a "male vs female" thing. It's a shitty human issue.
Shame on you for teaching these women to always play the victim instead of being strong, confident, and responsible for their own well being. You're a part of the growing problem that is perpetual victim hood.
