Has anyone tried antidepressants?

YMMV. I ate some Psilocybin mushrooms again for the first time since my teenage years. They helped to reset on my brain. Then I take a gummy at night just to help shut my brain down and sleep through the night.

I took Lexapro a few years ago and they made me feel like shit.

Nope , not me , never .. I’ve seen it destroy too many people . Some people lost their libido for life . And then see what some go through to try and stop .

Exercise , eat healthy , fresh air , and a whole lot of positive healthy things was way better .

I was on a mild dose of zoloft for awhile, due to panic attacks caused by my wife's constant attacks, criticisms and fighting. I got off of it shortly after the divorce and I've never been on it again.

Don't hesitate to use it if you need it. Don't tell her about it.

Honestly I'm on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds... not helping me right now. Still hurting and feeling everything. 3 weeks separated after 13 years.

Personally I wouldn’t unless I needed to to not hurt myself. Adding exogenous chemical dependency to my mental health equation just doesn’t sound like a good idea

My wife insisted I try antidepressants, so I went to her psychiatrist (mistake) and the asshole started me on 20mg of Lexapro. It made me sick as fuck, and since it was my wife's idea she went into straight up denial and accused me of faking being sick. I ended up going to the ER after she had a meltdown and threatened to kill my cat after I threatened to go sleep at my mom's so I could actually rest, and since I basically had a nervous breakdown in the ER after starting on a high dose of Lexapro, the ER has me sleep overnight in the BH unit so I could talk to a psychiatrist.

Hospital psychiatrist was livid that I was started on 20mg and said I never should have taken antidepressants in the first place.

Cliffs: Lexapro made me sick as fuck

Don’t do it. Those drugs often have massive side effects that doctors will not be honest about. You’re likely to end up chemically neutering yourself and there’s a decent chance the damage will be permanent even after you stop taking drugs.

Let's be honest. The root of the issues of this topic is the Ex. They have sinked their claws in us no matter if the marriage was less than a year or up to 30. Medicsl professional and recently seperated: sleep is a big factor in ones mental health. If you're not getting the sleep your body requires it effects all aspects of your health. I went to the Family dr for some sleeping pills in the first place. Took them for about 6 months before just naturally tapering off them. Getting the sleep definitely helps. I did find the side effects somewhat of a hindrance. Since then i have gotten a script for some herbal based products 🍁 which i use when i know ive been triggered or that im likely to be up all night ruminating or stressing. Havnt had to go on antidepressants but if it was needed absolutely 💯 %

Bro if your therapist recommended medication take it! Trust the professionals.

My concern here is your inability to see the amazing posit you are in!(im not an expert on mental health). Your ex wife left your home and you have your son full time. There are so many dads that would kill for that. I am not minimizing but holly shit imagine being kicked out and not being able to see your son.

Antidepressants are a game of luck. There are lots of them and they all "work" in completely different ways. You may end up trying 6 different medications before you finally get one that does the thing that you needed, and before you find that, some of them will probably make you worse.

3 counselors recommended them to me. I don’t even take advil so I didn’t want to risk going nutty or something. Did healthy stuff like you’re doing and watched motivational videos on YouTube for a pick me up when needed (Les Brown and Jocko Willink).

Depression lasted a year or two. Now I feel great everyday. My golf hobby helped a lot. It’s something I picked up when I was searching for meaning in life.

I am on Wellbutrin and lexapro. Wellbutrin is more like a mild stimulant for depression and helps with energy and motivation some. Lexapro is an SSRI and helps with emotions. The two have been a good fit for me.

I'm sorry to go against the advice of any pervious comments, however, OP there are many factors at play other than the way you feel. I really don't mean to sound harsh, I promise, I've been exactly where you are.

It takes a long time to find your correct dosage on these types of medications, especially SSRI types. I am only speaking from second hand experience, so please take my advice with a grain of salt...but I have seen people seemingly change over night with these types of medications. You do not want your decision making ability clouded at all during the divorce process.

I started councillong and antidepressants near the end before I left. It wasn't easy at first but I can guarantee it helps to have the mental stability as well as an outside person to hear you - works best if you are fully honest about yourself too

But talk to your doctor. It's worth it - so you can be the dad you want to be

I was put on Wellbutrin which is now considered the antidepressant with the fewest possible side effects. It’s also used for ADD and ADHD. It is also used to stop smoking.

So far, seems good for me.

I found it's helpful to take whatever is recommended by professionals.

There are a lot of things you can try doing to help with the feelings that you're going through and well a weekly session with a therapist can help or even twice a week I did that plus I found it very helpful to be part of a support group.

I joined a group that helps men deal with significant life changes specifically with relationships and identifying how to get through periods of crisis in their lives or feelings of being adrift or stagnation or whatever you want to call it. This falls under the category of men's work and it's often led by men's coaches or mentors or life coaches and I was very skeptical of it at first but what I found useful about it besides the course that you work through is the peer group that exists with these platforms and it's not just anyone but it's a select group of people who believe in the mission and purpose of uplifting others and forming a type of brotherhood.

As a man who grew up not having too many friends and feeling like I couldn't take my issues to family or friends especially those that are of a real personal nature I found this group so refreshing to be a part of even more so than Reddit which has a mixed bag of contributors and the anonymity of it can allow people to say whatever they want to say without being challenged in any real way.

I like the group and I hope you find something like it because it really helped me get through some of the most difficult emotions I've been experiencing during my separation and pending divorce.

You can PM me if you want to know the group that I specifically joined but I'm not here trying to promote any particular course or program but if you find something either through your local community or your church or online I would recommend joining it and I would try to pick something that is affordable for you because some of these groups charge way too much for what they offer
