I usually introduce it as a game when going out to dinner or something. I'll usually go with something like this "So my friends and I play this game where we stack our cell phones on the table. The first person to pick up their phone before the check comes/we close the tab pays!" I've never had anyone not willing to do this. It throws them off, and it makes a game out of it. This also works well with groups of friends.

Never allow them to do it in the first place. If you are ever just talking to a girl, and she pulls out her cell phone, just stop talking until she makes eye contact again. It may seem passive-aggressive, but if you pull it off right you can keep it light while still letting them know that you aren't going to compete with their cell phone.

If they continue to use their phones more then I will either:

a) Just walk away, really. Again, it may seem passive aggressive but if done right it can really make you stand out to a girl. How many times has someone just left them in mid-conversation? If they come catch up then you won't have any more problems with cell phones and they'll respond to the bold move.

b) Trade phones with them. Instead of just snatching their phone (how would you react to someone doing that?), ask them if they could hold something for you really quickly. When they have an open hand, give them your phone (password locked, of course) and take theirs from them.

If you do it smoothly enough, the trade will be over before they realize it. Again, don't seem like a passive-aggressive jerk. Just do it smoothly, put their phone in your pocket, and continue the conversation as if nothing happened.

I've only ever gotten good responses, and being that guy that calls a girl out for being rude will instantly set you apart from everybody else.

Send her a text, "I'm up here baby".

If she continues,

"Put your phone away, you're being rude."

If she persists,

Walk away and go game some other girls in the bar or restaurant or simply walk out.

There are plenty of girls who are more worthy of your time. If she cant bear to spend a night without her phone then I just don't bother.

I usually send them a text message and ask them if they want to hang out later, then I start pushing buttons on their phone and try and send their friends dumb text messages. Usually works well enough.

Man just be straight up and honest. Just say hey, it bugs me that you're on your phone so much when we're together. It's really as simpl as that. There's no need for games or clever ways I go about it. If she's cool and understanding she'll respect the fact that it bugs you and she'll chill and cut it out.

This is a fairly big thing for me, if the girl I'm with is messaging other people and being antisocial as a result, I call her out on it. I went through this with my guy friends before a gf so my attitudes were well formed and arguments already had. If you are on a date, just tease her for bad manners. On the other hand, my conversations are free flowing and entertaining. If she is texting because it's too awkward to get more than a grunt out of you then it is you who has to change. My fav is walking past a guy and girl in a restaurant and seeing both of them sitting there texting. Also, fuck 18YOs and their phone addictions. I see it with my sister and her friends all the time. A room of them all glued to their phones. Best is when they are all on fb

I like to put my hand over the phone and say "who are you texting all of your friends are here" or just don't hang out with those kinds of girls, if you're worried about being an asshole or needy, don't. That kind of phone stuff is rude. I mean...they are either nervous or uninterested right? Cutting to the chase solves both, or makes the distinction clear to you.

You're not going to come off as an asshole if you demand that they stop texting while they're with company.

Don't ask politely, because you're giving them a chance to say no.

Just say, "Get off your phone when you're with people. It's rude as hell."

If she doesn't comply, then she's just a rude person, and shouldn't be given any second thought.

As soon as she starts texting, stop talking. When she looks up and notices, she'll most likely say something along the lines of "Oh sorry" to which you reply "No that's alright, I'll wait until you're done" with a polite smile on your face. She'll get the hint pretty fast.

I usually say something like "Hey, I'm talking, put that away." Most everyone seems a little surprised by the bluntness, sometimes I see their eyes light up in discovering I am not a doormat, sometimes they are a little offended that I called them out. I don't tend to find the latter group as interesting anyways, so it generally works for me.

A friend of mine got a girlfriend from something similar to this. He was out with this girl and she kept looking at her phone and texting and he was getting pissed off. Eventually he told her that if she looked at her phone again he'd kiss her. She laughed and put the phone away for a few minutes, then she checked it again and he kissed her. TL;DR Tell her if she checks her phone again, you're going to kiss her. Follow through if she does.

I normally take their phone from them gently, and then throw it across the room in a way that will scare them but not harm the phone. Make it playful.

You'll have to find your own solution though, this is just what works for who I am.

I do this all the time, and it's worked every time.

The first time, I let it slide and just give a questioning look, like, is it really that important. The next time, I just reach over, take their phone, and set it face down right in front of them.

Then give them a smirk and go right back to your conversation.

My favorite line for this situation , is one I readonthe SoSuave DJ forums: put your hand over her phone and say: "I'm way more interesting than your phone." You obviously need to look her in the eyes and smile appropiately.

I've tried this various times with different results. Since I have been improving over time I don't have to say it so often anymore.

Also I've just realised that when I used this line with a negative result, they were clearly unreceptive.

Why is your conundrum here NOT the problem of being needy for her attention?

She might be updating her FB or Twitter about how she's with an awesome guy...... who knows?

As important as it is to be in touch with what we can actively influence, I think sometimes that having to ask for something is worth a lot less than that very thing simply being offered. So if you've laid the groundwork well enough to get a date and she's clearly interested in you (and not using the cellphone to cover for feeling awkward) and we assume that the date is engaging........ AND she's still whipping out her cellphone...... This is the point where you might consider that she is disqualifying herself, if this is really a deal-breaker for you.

It's not always like you can TURN the other person into a cool person to be around. Sometimes at the end of the day, some people are just lame and don't fit well with you. EDIT: At that point, stop throwing energy at them and dump them for someone that doesn't require so much trouble.

TL;DR: To put it another way (and plagiarize from a wise person), work on accepting that you do not have the power to influence/affect change in everyone in every situation, the confidence and courage to exert yourself to influence the things you can, and wisdom to know the difference between those two things.

Intended to state that you can't influence everything and that this needs to be accepted, even as you do the best you can to influence what you can.

You have now involved your self in what she is doing and she may take the stand of its none of your business and she might stop or go on and on about the b.s. that is over consuming her life. Either way if its a girl your serious about and she invites you in so to speak you are now into a part of her intement life and can work all new angles because the more you know the better off you are. Now if its just a wromp in the hay your after be a little more suave and text her something along the lines of this place is a bust we should go somewhere else and move to an area where you can bust a move.
