I was once at a lake with my wife and son, i was in the water, not even knee deep and i hear a woman screaming, i look and there are two women next to me looking into the lake, one of them looks at me and points towards the lake. I turn a see a child drowning. By the time i process what is happening another lit that was right next to him had already helped.

Keep in mind, it would be at most chest level water for either of them (although waist level would be more likely), it shocked me that the best either of them could do was to scream and point for me to go and get him.

This lady in the article let her kids go swim outside the lifeguard area, let her two teenage sons risk their to save her daughter while she just screamed and the random dudes are also to blame? Ffs

When my son was 6 I was teaching him to swim. I had him jump into the pool and I caught him. He was terrified and nearly pulled us both to the bottom of the pool. Small kids in fear can drown you real fast I learned that day.

Do men have an obligation to help all women in need? No we do not. This is not the middle ages where gender roles are well defined and people adhere to it. We men can do whatever we want today. We owe nothing to most women. Just as we cannot demand anything from women, women cannot demand anything from men.

It is as if the whole empowered women movement only apply when it is convenient or safe. Equal strength, equal opportunity, equal rights. But when it is dangerous they expected men to do it for them. They want all the benefits and none of the responsibilities.

I think it's mostly not about male hate, it's mostly about issue that if you touch other people's children (especially if it's NOT your professional responsibility) - you likely will get in legal trouble. If you help - it's likely you don't even get thank you. Good samaritan laws must be fixed. Across world. And should be more or less universal.

So much is going on right here in this short story. Here are my thoughts on the matter:

1) This is a great example of the bystander effect. The bystander effect is the phenomenon where individuals are less likely to help someone in distress when others are present, assuming someone else will intervene.

2) Are her legs broken? Is she in a wheelchair, or crippled in some way? Not in this case, she is able bodied. Self preservation is why she didn't jump in. She acted cowardly, and after the fact she places blame on others.

3) They were outside of the roped off swimming area. There were lifeguards ready and paid to jump in and rescue people, but that mother allowed her child to swim outside of those markers into the more dangerous water.

4) There have been numerous stories of rescuers being sued by the people they rescue. The little girl says, "He touched my butt." or "He touched my boob" even if accidental when he was rescuing that guy may wind up on the sex offender registry.

5) There are a large number of instances where a rescuer winds up dying mid rescue trying to save someone.

6) The woman let her sons go in and do the rescue. They are teenage boys and the girls brother. Their heroism has been tarnished by their mother's bad attitude, cowardice, and blame shifting. She chose to make this about herself, and an attack on men when she could have very easily made it about her sons being brave young men.
