It was after I had just had an extremely uncomfortable medical procedure back when the reason for all my miscarriages was being diagnosed. I had been told not to eat anything beforehand, so by the time we got home I was sad and hungry and snappish.

He disappeared into the kitchen and re-emerged with a bacon, egg, and Brie sandwich on a toasted bagel. It was probably the kindest thing anybody has ever done for me. I burst into tears.

Edit: he has a series of small notebooks that I have made him over the decades; on every page is written a reason that I love him or something that I love about him.

My husband and I were supposed to go to Ireland for a bit before our wedding (I'm Irish and living in England) and in the end couldn't because of various things going on with him at the time, so he changed our honeymoon plans from France to Ireland and surprised me with it, which was very sweet and nice and meant a lot to me. I value physical displays of affection and being told he loves me more than anything though, which he's also generally good at keeping up on.

Bonus question: how do you express love to your partners?

My husband likes it when I do things for him and express affection physically, so I tailor my displays of appreciation to that and do stuff like cook/ bake stuff for him, get things for him if he asks me to, keep things neat and relaxed for him and keep up physical contact. I also tell him that I love him a lot in as cringey a manner as possible.

Most recent gift too - but it was tickets to a charity event where my favorite band was playing an acoustical set in another town and a night in a bed and breakfast. I've seen this band many times but it is always a big stadium show. There is nothing like up close and personal. Plus it was for a good cause.

He purchased a trip to New York so I could feed and interact with a red panda - my absolute favorite animal in the whole world. I legit cried when he told me we were going to be able to feed and pet a red panda. And while there, he gave me all the food so I could feed the panda myself. He's the best.

I got him a photo shoot of me in lingerie (boudoir shoot) when I was 21. He loves the photos and still has the calendar on the wall, despite it being many years out of date.

1) Idiot nephew ruins Christmas. I promised my husband we would never do big family Christmas again. Next Christmas my mom gets diagnosed with cancer. He without blinking sayssays, “we are getting you to your mom.” Plans the trip, finds the airbnb’s, drives 18 hours in the snow. Spends Christmas with us. 2) permission. He told me whenever I see something I want when I am traveling internationally I am to buy it and send him a picture with the caption “look at this lovely gift you just got me!”

Being perfectly honest? I’d have to say the noise cancelling headphones he got me this past Christmas. I use them literally every day. They are so good and nothing I would every but for myself as I suspect they were quite expensive.

My love language is words. His is acts of service.

He’s not great with words. So I try to appreciate the way he shows love in the way he’s comfortable.

I will say though that even through you both have your own preferred language you should try to express all 5 within reason. Even though we have a preference we still appreciate all of it on some level.

When he turned 40, I gave him a weekend at one of those tracks where you can race exotic cars. Something he’s always wanted to do. I told him I thought it was too expensive so he wouldn’t go do it on his own. The look on his face when he opened it was the best part for me.

It wasn't so much a present but a date - an ex bought me my favorite (living) author's newest book and took me to a book signing to meet the author and have him sign my book. The most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me.

I also very much love my engagement ring from my fiancé. He picked it out himself, and it wasn't something I ever expected from him.

A Diesel "Big Daddy" watch from my wife.

Its an all encompassing reminder that I need to work harder, reach my goals and make new ones. Never get complacent because I will lose momentum and time will march on without me. The best thing for me, as not a present as such, but when a girl I was seeing arranged a weekend away.

This was the only time when someone I was seeing, took the initiative in arranging something, instead of leaving it all to me.

It was nice to just relax and enjoy the experience and it actually be a surprise, instead of being the one to have to arrange everything (which is what has always happened, before and after her).

Ease, rest and a good night of sleep.

In my early 20's I started living alone and I was really sad that I was going to be alone that birthday and working overtime at a really tiresome company event. so I couldn't commemorate my birthday

I decided to not commemorate my birthday at the correct day and wait a week... as I would visit my parents then and finally have a week of rest. I even said I couldn't see my FwB as I would be too tired to do anything with her.

I arrived late that day (1 am) I was extremely pissed, because of my boss I wouldn't be able to sleep more than 3hrs because I would be busy making my dinner, cleaning the dishes, making the breakfast and lunch of the next day and cleaning my uniform. (I can't afford eating or laundry outside)

When I arrived at home my FwB was sleeping there and she made all that houseshores for me and some more. She didn't give me anything of much value, these houseworks, a 10USD mouse, a small birthday pie and a massage (I am not a fan of sweets and she is extremely poor) . But you cannot imagine my happiness.

I hate parties and crowds... I was never a "people's" guy. Yet none ever understood, not even my family. She could have done a surprise party like some obnouxious exes or not done anything at all like most FWB. But she did, and did exactly what I needed and wanted. To have ease, to rest, and a good night of sleep. I was so emotioned I cried a bit. None except my mother cared for me without compensation but she did.

Best gift ever.

I asked her to be my gf when I woke up, I was just that tired. She was the gf who best understood me. I still misses her from time to time.

One of my exes wanted to make me a bunch of gifts for Christmas, which she called “the 12 days of Christmas”. So for the 12 days leading up to Christmas, she gave me a gift each day. Nothing.It usually takes me some time to explain "no gifts, no surprises, no crowded gatherings/parties" rule to people I get involved with; usually through explaining that this thing they got for me is either completely useless or otherwise undesirable/unacceptable.

I once got a set of super-fancy watercolors from a woman right when I needed it; also I once got a PC display from a woman right when I needed it; also I occasionally got some tools and useful stuff from women right when I needed them. My appreciation for these things is infinite. BUT, NONE of these women EVER were my romantic SOs/spouses.

Situationally. Varying from "take her to a trip abroad", through "get her a vibrator and show how to use it", to "learn how to shoot medication into her ass with minimal discomfort and pain, and cuddle with her until that pain subsides".

My husband is an amazing gift giver, so it's impossible to pick a single one so imma give some highlights.

He bought all the parts needed to build a custom gaming computer, then taught me out to set it up.

I got a box sex of guides to my favorite video game series.

A cuckoo clock for our fifth wedding anniversary (it's the anniversary for wooden stuff)

Various figurines that we like from our shared nerdy interests.

And a host of other great things.

My husband enjoys gifts (guys favorite so far has been the wooden monopoly board which we add to via different monopoly sets, but he mostly feels loved via physical touch. So I rub his head/neck/back every night before bed/until he falls asleep. And crack his back/ give back rubs whenever asked.

I have never received any gifts from a romantic partner but the best gift I've ever given was I made a "spooky basket" for a guy I was seeing last year for halloween. It was like a trend, you put a guy's favorite candy, gatorade or whatever tf guys drink, blunt wraps, gum, chapstick, random shit. He was so excited about it lol.
