Most users will be familiar with the idea that the Wall is where a woman’s SMV begins to decline rapidly. Leaving aside genetics and lifestyle factors, this period is generally accepted to be in the age period 25-35. The idiom then “men age like wine, women age like milk” is held to be true for this period. However, it is pretty clear that a 60 year old man is less sexually attractive than a 40 year old man. So where is the Wall for men? 50?

I would personally argue that many men hit the wall around fatherhood: testosterone decreases as the man exhibits greater tendencies towards nurturing. Also, competition anxiety decreases with the supposed security of monogamy (locked in by marriage), leading many men to pay less attention to their physical appearance.

In Britain I can attest to the fact that the vast majority of men over 50 are out of shape, balding and unattractive. They have hit the Wall just as bad as any woman.

I welcome your thoughts.
