I’ve read different things about this and was wondering if someone could give me some insight. I only took 1 psych course as an elective during undergrad and learnt about the different qualities men and women look for in the opposite sex, but when it comes to looking at it from a statistical point of view I’m hoping that someone here can give me some more insight.

I’ve had a few girlfriends in the past and som FWBs but I never really stopped to consider what the male-female relationship dynamics look like in aggregate. All my life I thought that women don’t care about looks as men do and are much more interested by someone’s personality, intelligence, sense of humour...etc but the more I’ve been thinking about this the less convinced I am this is the case.

For example, before taking this psych course I thought that my experience wasn’t any different than the average male’s. However the things I learned was that my perception of what the average male is was completely skewed because I considered myself and my immediate guys to form the basis of what the average male is like. The problem with that is that not of us are under 6 ft tall, all of us either play varsity sports or work regularly, we all graduated from one Canada’s top universities with plans to either enter work force in STEM fields or pursue professional degrees.

Now before any of you start a cussing me of being a narcissist, I know that thousands of kids graduate with STEM degrees every year so I’m not a genius and that anyone can be in shape if they put the work in. I don’t think I’m God or larger than life, but my professor made an interesting point that only about 15% of men are 6 ft or taller. That got me thinking of how small the number must be of men who are tall AND smart AND physically appealing to women. (For the sake of this example let’s just say that the cut off for being both smart and handsome is the top 50% of each of those categories. If that’s case we would need to multiply 15%x50%x50% to find out the % of men who fit in all 3 categories simultaneously which comes out to ONLY 3.75% of ALL MEN). I’m sorry but that number is fucking ridiculously small and it blew my mind to learn that.
