I really feel for her. She likely feels so trapped , living on that scroats unemployment while she goes to school and takes care of a newborn. Sure as shit he isn't going to pay child support if he can't even shower, and if he already blames her for everything, going through a custody battle with him is going to be a nightmare. I hope that she has family support to get out now. Lesson to us all on being careful who you have kids with.

Why can't they just shower every day.:( My younger brother showers once a week, maximum, and I always have to hold my breath when I'm near him. I don't wanna talk about this with him, because he's 19 and I'm not gonna baby an adult man, but it's sooo gross.

When I was in the military it was normal during a week long training camp, but you don't actually even notice it as we were outside full time and busy with our training. But behold, as soon as we got back into barracks the reality kicks in and you realize how dirty and smelly we were and you wanna hurry up with all the gear maintenance so you could slip into shower asap lol. I can't fathom how anybody could live their day-to-day life in that condition (excluding real mental illness).

Yeah, I know what you mean, I went without showering a few days in a row when I was camping or during outdoor music festivals, as you said, it's different because we were outside on fresh air. But indoors is a living hell. My question is why it's always men who don't mind showering during extended period of time. It's like they think a man should smell like a butt. Actually the post above only proves that even hobos can get married. If women divorced over this issue, I bet men would care more about personal hygiene. But the question still is, why they don't feel uncomfortable being smelly and dirty...

I've heard more than one man actually saying that "man must smell like a man" meaning that they are proud of the reek. They thought that smell of sweat triggers some primal lust in women. Now it's needed to add that the smell is very different if man showers in the morning, does some manual labor all day and comes home all sweaty and "smelling" compared to a hobo who is just decomposing on sofa beer can in hand for a week.

I will admit that sometimes I have to brave my anxiety to take a shower. That’s just how anxious I can get. But if you are too anxious to shower, you have to see a professional about it. It’s not a level of anxiety you can just ignore and expect others to just accept it.
I don’t even remember the last time I skipped a shower due to anxiety, way over a year ago!

I once got into it with my ex stepdad about showering. He'd do it once a month and I'd do it every day or every other day. He came to me after a shower once and said, "why do you shower so much? You don't do anything but sit on your ass all day." I didn't, I had a really active social life and we were all always outside in the summer heat. Think it dawned on me that men just don't think they stink. How they can be unbothered by a greasy face with greasy hair stuck to it is beyond me but it's all laziness. They don't care.
On the subject, fuck that guy. I could write a novel's worth of posts about him.

I can't wrap my head around his "logic." If I understand correctly, to him, personal hygiene is a chore along with doing dishes etc.? Washing HIS body is something he does FOR HER, so if he's done some bare minimum chores, he gets a free pass on being sweaty and disgusting? Make it make sense.

For part of my life, I suffered from anxiety so bad taking a shower was actually hard. Mental health is tricky, but I’m not a guy and I don’t expect people to put up with lack of hygiene, so I sought professional help (the horror!).
It’s been well over a year since I skipped a shower due to anxiety!

When I’m really anxious, I get really dysfunctional. My creativity goes to hell, my ability to concentrate gets nearly zero, I can barely do basic tasks. Basically, my executive functions become nearly nonexistent. I also get paranoid thoughts too, but none regarding showers so far. I think what makes showers difficult during a bad anxiety episode is executive dysfunction.
Edit: sometimes I’m panicking too, so I have that inexplicable urge to run away. So I’m in the shower and suddenly I wanna run away from there.
