I’m not going to lower my standards so I can “pop out” a kid before my timer runs out according to men (who age like milk, by the way.)

I’ll adopt a kid if I can’t find a spouse that meets my standards, no child of mine is going to be raised by a LVM.

I got my first hate DMs from commenting in this sub today, and I was so proud. I especially LMAO at the one telling me that, as an "over-40 professional woman," no man would ever want me and my eggs are dried up.

Why do these dudes assume we see ourselves through their lens? Not as fully realized subjects, just like how men see themselves? I am really starting think there is something pathological going on with the testosterone.

Infertility/dying unmarried are my F A V O R I T E misogynist scare tactics, because they are so, so wildly off base. It's hilarious to me that some man would think I'd ever WANT to be pregnant, give birth, breast feed, etc. I don't want children. No clock is ticking. My main goal in life is to live to glorious old age as a forever spinster, untamed. The fact that this triggers loser randos on the Internet is just a happy side narrative. If they hate middle aged women so much, and we're so useless, why are they so very pressed about our prerogatives, what we say, and what we do? Hmm?

I just realized the option of hosting exchange students this week!! It’s short term, I can get the enjoyment of guiding a young person, and I get to enjoy the culture of another country! I’m an avid traveler and I’ve always doubted how it would work with a family so this is great solution for me! Most exchange students stay in contact with their host families long after their time spent abroad. I just love this idea! And it helps me cope with not experiencing motherhood... it’s not the same but just enough 🙂

This concept was proven to be false anyway. I honestly think it was made up and used now to create an idea that women "expire". Meaning that we only have an amount of time to be a useful broodmare and pop out children to whoever can come get us before the "clock runs out". I know that by 37 eggs become less in quality, but there are always other ways and methods. I myself don't want kids, but it's ridiculous to be told this because it shows that we are only used for breeding.

I've always been dead set on adopting or fostering, as my Dad and Auntie were both adopted. Now growing up and talking to my friends, so many of them do feel pressured to stay in relationships that aren't good because they've spoken about kids, or are worried about breaking up with their partner and missing out on their "peak fertility years".

There are definitely unique challenges with adoption, and it isn't for everybody, but I am thankful that I've never had to worry too much about my biological clock and have it potentially affect my decision-making when it comes to what I'll tolerate in a relationship.

Also, it would be a nice world if there were more people wanting to foster / adopt than kids needing homes. No child left in the system, and all welcomed by loving families. I wish that were the reality.

The days of getting a baby from a teen mom are long over in many many places in the world.

Adoption is much more challenging than you think it is and for many people it isn’t what they want—and that’s okay. It’s okay to want to have biological children.

And while it may be very expensive to have a biological child, it’s also very expensive, there are a lot of hurdles and many of the children available are older and/or have special needs.

I have a special needs child and it’s not an easy life—but it’s easier being a single mum with a special needs child than having a LVM around and no children—but it’s still a hard, heartbreaking life no matter how good it gets because at the end of the day, your child is still struggling and will likely never be independent.

That’s why it often takes years and years for a couple to match with a child. One of my friends and her husband have two biological children and they’re planning to adopt a child. They’re three years into the process so far, and it’s been quite stressful for both of them.

I’ve also known a number of couples who’ve adopted from overseas and that’s not been easy either.

I’m not trying to deter anyone here from adopting, it’s just not as easy as it sounds. You can’t just get up one day and say “okay it’s time to adopt”.

It’s time-consuming, expensive and there’s no guarantee you’ll get a child.

Yes! Not to criticize anyone else’s decision to have their own kids, but i’ve never understood why so many people want to make more children, when there are so many kids in foster care that need homes.

There’s also tends of thousands of kids in foster case who need homes for right now. Others of us aspire only to being aunts and honorary aunts. Lots of ways to give love to children.
