To be fair - men are allowed this "pass" in the UK. If it's reasonably likely/provable that he thought she was over 16 .. E.g like the teenage child buying cigarettes, or alcohol or similar. BUT you are only given this excuse once. I know someone that was 19 and had a relationship with someone he thought was 16 (or over). Turns out she was 15, and had lied about her age. He broke it off with her as soon as he found out. Unfortunately for all involved, her mother then wondered why her 15 year old was so upset. She told her mum what happened, and when her mum asked her how old she said she was, she either lied again and said "I told him I was 15", or she told the truth and her mum tried to prosecute the guy anyway. They hadn't had sex but there was "heavy petting" or "digital penetration", so he was going down for child rape. He was able to produce enough evidence that he thought she was 16, like her buying and smoking cigarettes. Saved him from a life of hell, they were both trying to put him behind bars - because of her lies.

Luckily the UK courts allow you to make that mistake, once, you do not make it again. Still trashed his name in the paper with trial by press, basically "sicko child rapist in court tomorrow"... And then basically "sicko child rapist gets off!". This was genuinely a case of him being entrapped by a naive girl that wanted a relationship and didn't care what she risked for the guy to get it, and then punished him when she was spurned... For being a lying 15 year old!

This woman might be telling the truth, but of course women will be treated much more favourably than men.

I read about a case in which teenage girl who wanted to have sex in a US state with age of consent of 16. She told the man she was 16. He knew that under state law he also had an obligation to make 'reasonable attempt to obtain consent' which included ensure the partner was of the age to give consent. Therefore he asked for ID. She showed it to him. They had sex. He was convicted of sexual assault.

Why? She lied and claimed she was 16 when she was 15. She also showed him a fake ID. He was convicted because he didn't make enough effort to ensure she was of age to give consent.

So a women who doesn't even ask gets off, but a guy who asks, gets evidence (ID) is convicted. The double standard is pure gynocentric bias.
