Anyone actually left the country?

I moved to Mexico. I still pay massive alimony and will for 11 years. My business is failing and the courts are very reluctant to grant me relief. I’m getting closer to just saying fuck you and stop paying. I don’t want to cut ties with the country I love but if I get to zero they will throw me in jail anyway. I’m lost.

Guys will continue to be screwed until there is an attempt to organize to lobby and have a voice. Changes to legislation involving divorce in states come at the insistence of attorney’s and usually not to benefit the guy.

I'm not quite there yet so I can't be sure what's coming, but I have a rough idea. I felt trapped during marriage and now because of the child, it's a tough spot. I also do eng type of work remote, can technically travel anywhere and work remotely.

The thought has occurred to me to just take off and never look back. I am capable of rebuilding my life, capital, start over, so why not. The only thing holding me back is my son and the fact that I can still be in his life. Leaving the country could mean eventually abandoning obligations and maybe never coming back.

So I asked myself... Why would I do that, to save 100k, maybe 200, 300? The money is just not worth it for me. So can I do that without cutting ties completely? Well turns out that's maybe possible. A month here, a month there, test this out a bit first...maybe start a business, go international, use whatever tools you have to protect yourself going forward, things we should have done a looong time ago. I guess what I'm saying is that leaving the country doesn't have to be permanent. You're welcome to move around, adjust course along the way, and basically work around the obstacles.

I don’t have kids and don’t condone not paying child support… the best thing to do IMH IANAL opinion would be to get more custody, take the kids more and play her, let her go out w the AP, and actually be a good father that your kids choose to see more than your ex wife

Soooo, how would you see your kids? better or worse? moving kids away from the other parent, honestly should be illegal, unless its for really good reasons, they just made your kids a 1 parent situation, friggin brutal.

Japan is notorious for protecting Japanese citizens from US custody laws. But I doubt it works both ways, they probably wouldn’t protect an immigrant from the US to Japan from US custody laws.

All of the people I have heard do this have moved 1-2 time zones away. Be aware it's difficult to do work +/- 8 or more timezones from where you would be working remotely

this is the risk at least in the US you WILL eventually pay that child support. If it takes 50 years to hunt you down they will find a way to make you pay. Just be aware any western country is all over making dads pay.

His dad got tired of his mom's constant complaining and her need to control everything. Both his kids were all grown up and out on their own. He left everything. He left his 401k and his house. And he moved to the Philippines to be with a girl he met on a business trip.

There are some laws related to the Hague convention, but I've never seen this bite in practice. No idea how Australia is or which countries in Europe have a good relationship with them but sounds like Thailand may be a better bet

You and me both. And many have done it. If it wasn't for the heat I would consider Thailand. Food for thought Australia has an agreement regarding court orders with the US. I cant remember if they are a member of the EU or not.
