I'm my case I had to try to salvage the marriage, I never thought I would stay with someone that cheats on me, I was wrong I did stay, but I did it so that I had no regrets when and if I left, I also gave her a second chance, and a third that was enough for me

Today I can look back and say that I really did try and not have regrets about it, not having to deal with what ifs, and once that was accepted, then move on, my ex still doesn't think she did anything wrong and that I'm to blame, it's not easy to do and it hurts, but again I gave it my all and I honestly tried, she has admitted that she didn't try herself

Doing better in relationships? No not really it actually dove me away from them,

Get excited planning your new adventure, dive in and start looking at new places/areas you can start visiting. I highly recommend some type of community living for at least first 12-24 months directly following split, I.e trendy condo/apt (higher endish) with people, females, gyms etc.) it's those random people I made friends with that got me through the mental war. You can plan/budget for house in a few years. Met a ton of hot chicks too ....man oh man, almost want to go back.

Social media - right here. Just had a talk with my 22 yo son who is dating women off of tinder etc. I told him you got to be careful and not fall head over heals. What is different now days that if your GF or wife get pissed at yo - she can swipe hundreds of times and find someone that she thinks is better than you and cheat.

don't waste your money filing for separation, file for divorce. All you're going to do, is pay for two divorces, the filed separation costs as much and takes as much time as a standard divorce. If you're just going to separate, separate. Don't get a lawyer or anything, just do it and make your own separation agreement. But if you are going to the extent of filing, just file for divorce.

Women are emotional beings with no capacity for rational critical thinking.

Sometimes the men are to blame, but typically we are busy making money, doing housework, taking care the children, etc. Apparently that is not enough to satisfy a woman.

Women need constant emotional stimulation. They get bored very easy. They want excitement and something to look forward to. They don’t like routine, repetition or the mundane.

So when they are not getting stimulated at home they look for outside partners. Most women cannot just sleep with any random guy. They typically have to have some kind of connection with them first before they open up their legs. This is why most women cheat with someone they already knew.

Sometimes they are looking to upgrade their husband and will cheat and hope to get caught or file for divorce so they can be with someone else.

I believe that men and women are not compatible in the long term for sexual monogamy.

Men do still on average cheat more than women but the gap is closing. Last I checked it was 25% of men and 15% of women.

I think the gap is closing for several reasons:

women are more likely to be capable of financial independence than previous generations
it's easier with online dating basically putting a smorgasbord of cocks in front of anything with half a tit. Add in scumbags patrolling Facebook, insta and snap for women.
expectations for husbands have exploded. Husbands are now confidantes, therapists, vacation planners, great dads, great home makers, providers, passionate lovers, closest friend, handyman, yard maintenance, and the foundation of the wife's happiness

Not all that is bad or unreasonable, but nobody is perfect.

I posted this in another thread, but figure I should add my story here as well. Sorry that it's so long, I don't expect anyone to read any or all of it.

I found my wife talking to another man a few years back- hundreds of texts/sexts/nudes. It was at the beginning of COVID and a catfish situation, we'd been together 12 years at that point (married 8) and had some issues here and there, but other than some yelling matches and storm-offs while drunk, we got along pretty well. I decided to forgive her after this, but made it clear that there wouldn't be any other chances.

We made more of an effort for awhile, a major move gave us a nice shake-up and I was hoping our issues were behind us. But it faded over time. We seemed to only fight when we were drunk, and were daily drinkers, so I made the decision to go completely sober hoping to encourage her to as well. She went along with it and again, it seemed like things were doing alright. I guess with alcohol we were forced to confront our issues a lot more. Without it, whey just lingered and grew into more and more passive aggressive behavior.

I really noticed things shift from her recently though. I can't quite explain it, but she falls into this pattern of pushing me away but acting like I'm the one pushing her away. I don't know, but it just kept reminding me of the way she was acting last time I caught her. She also suddenly started staying overnight as her girl friend's houses (which she had only done years ago, and even then was extremely rare) and spending all her time messaging on her phone, yet would go days without texting or calling me (too busy, oops my phone died, etc).

I'd ask her who she was talking to and it was always just "work" or her "girl friends". I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, and do more to show that I cared about her. But nothing I was doing changed her behavior.

Last week, she was showing me something on her phone and I went to grab it to look closer. I have never seen her pull something away from me so fast. She quickly had some excuse, but I knew then that she was definitely hiding something. It finally dawned on me to just check the phone records (I was sure she was using a messenger app like last time but didn't hurt to check).

Come to find she's sent 500+ messages to a single number in a matter of weeks. I waited till she went to bed to get the final confirmation. I open her phone and find the conversation, she was even bold enough to have his picture in her contacts, and just keep scrolling up to a bunch of "baby"s and "I love you"s. I completely lost it at this point, I wish I had slowed down and tried to gather more evidence, but I saw red right away and immediately went to get a drink. Gave up 660 days sober without a second thought.

Once I had a good amount of liquid courage I woke her up and confronted her. Her response was to shrug it off and apparently delete the conversation after I stormed away (didn't find out until I tried to go back for screen shots when she went back to sleep).

Her only explanation later was that it's an "old family friend" and that's "just how they talk". She's been in and out over the last few days and we've been mostly civil. But I check the phone records again today, and if anything she's only ramped up the contact with him.

At this point I just don't see anyway I could ever trust her again. We've been together over 40% of my life and I just feel completely empty towards her now. So, I’m filing for separation this week and will be moving to my new place (that we originally applied for together) in 10 days.

If anyone made this far, I commend you. I'm not sure what I'm looking for by posting this but I just needed to get it off my chest. Cheers!

Pre-interweb most folks only had the local population to get trysty. Now one can find people outside of their regular social circle. It was more prevalent for men to cheat (or get caught) because more often it was the man leaving town for business, etc.
