I remember being aghast when a male acquaintance started having an FWB relationship with a girl he said he wasn’t even attracted to, for the simple reason he couldn’t get girls. That relationship progressed to commitment then marriage, which is possibly the worst and most ridiculous outcome for that kind of situation. I felt very sorry that she ended up with a guy who didn’t even want her but married her anyway just because he wanted sex and company, not because he liked her for her.

I have since then learned of many such situations with male acquaintances. Men will be brutally honest with their friends and confide that they have no sexual attraction or deeper attraction to their long suffering partner, and just find her an easy option to be with. Many of them will then cheat when the opportunity presents itself.

It is probably one of our worst nightmares to be involved with a man who doesn’t really want us but is holding out for something better, or settling for us. It’s not just men without options who act this way. The vast majority of men don’t want to put in the hard work in courtship and relationships, and will jump on the easiest and least-effort option available to them.
