I got invited to spend NYE with a man with whom I've had a few dates. I accepted, and now he's texted me, saying that he's having trouble getting a reservation for dinner. (The day before? Ya think?) I mentioned a couple of places that I heard might still have availability, and sent him a link to one of the places. He asked me to make a reservation.

I refuse to make the reservations. Why? Because HE asked ME to dinner. When you ask a woman to dinner, you make the arrangements. You are the host. She is your guest. This is also why men pay: They asked you; they are the host.

Ladies, do not be lured into "over-functioning" in your relationships with men. Rather, lean back and see what he does. Does he take the lead, make timely reservations to ensure your comfort, or does he wait until the last minute, and then ask you to take over? If so, consider if you want to spend the rest of your time with him -- possibly your life -- taking care of everything because he won't.

I'm disappointed in this man, but it's better to know this sort of thing sooner rather than later.

If a man won't make timely plans, and needs me to "rescue" him, this is merely the beginning of a relationship that is going to be me planning everything and dragging him along once he gets truly comfortable. And that's a "no" for me.

Honestly? I'm just as happy spending NYE at home, in my own company. That's what I was planning on doing before he asked me out. So if he can't get us a table, I'm staying home.
