I hate that I got all the wrong role model from my older brother. At 16 he was having sex with his girlfriend like animals in our family home and I could hear her scream when I was trying to play with my friends and my dolls. Like full on scream porn sounds. This is what I was told was normal to give to men.

Of course it worked out for my brother because he dated a girl. So she went to med school and after 12 years of dating they got married. Yeah they got married at 28 and she makes good money so they are fine.

But I was super confused in my twenties since even my older brother who had been with his girlfriend for years was not talking about marriage. In my mind I was always thinking well my brother isn't even engaged so I'm not about to think about marriage after just two years with my boyfriend.

I am happily married to a Russian man and I still warn women not to date Slavic men. My marriage works only because my husband is heavily American/Western-ized and does not have any connection to Slav culture. The interactions with his family, even those in the US, has been horrifying.

Being half-Korean, I am no stranger to patriarchy, but at least Korean men take the role of providers seriously. Russian men can't even be bothered to support their families and fully expect their wives to work FT, cook, clean, raise kids and take care of his parents.

Also, dating for too long is taboo in conservative Korean culture, but Russian men are happy to date and procreate with women and refuse to marry them. They get no backlash from their family or society.

Once again, I am not trying to pit cultures against one another. I have ranted against Korean misogyny plenty. To no one's surprise, both Korea and Russia have rapidly declining birth and marriage rates. Korea and Russia are the 2 top liquor drinking nations in the world. Women are wising up to this fuckery and choosing to be alone.
