Yes!!! Thank you for sharing!!! I am SO sick of hearing people say “yea but maybe he read you wrong/ got the wrong idea/ didn’t know you wouldn’t like it” after I tell them about my initial assault from a man I slept with and then a later rape (when I was semi conscious) when we were in a relationship.

It boils my fucking blood.

The assault scared the crap out of me. I’ve shared before and I’ll share again - we went to bed on our 2nd date. I was lying down. He looks like he’s opening a packet of condoms, but then he comes to bed grabs my whole face with his whole hand (totally covered) puts his weight on MY FACE, twists my neck to the side so I can’t see him, only his wall of his bedroom (face still covered and grabbed by his hand) then starts having sex with me, and then proceeds to hold my nose and my mouth while he fucks me (pretend suffocation - it wasn’t fully covered thank god). I was TERRIFIED and thought “omg this is me done. I’m dead. No one knows where I am. It’s too late.” And also “why the fuck is he holding my nose...” (this was my first one night stand ever so I was very naive!)

And I just don’t now how anyone can say he got the wrong idea about me - how?! Doesn’t matter what I was wearing (first date I was in full suit from work on a summer day), second date I was wearing a normal summer dress. Both dates I was quiet and shy as I was new to dating.

So i don’t care for those who play devils advocate that maybe he “read me wrong” because one, I don’t know how and we all also know that it shouldn’t be about how a woman is dressed. Two, even IF we play devils advocate and he really “didn’t know” and “read me wrong” it doesn’t take away from the fucking trauma experienced!!!

I once walked in on my male housemates talking about child sexual abuse, with one of them playing "Devil's Advocate" by saying the most traumatic thing about it was probably the shame from it being so frowned upon in society. Me, a survivor of CSA, gave him such a furious look that he shut his mouth and didn't talk to me for like a week... Bliss

Honestly I feel like any man that says that line, "Well to play the devil's advocate...", is honestly just trying to push the views they secretly agree with with on to someone who doesn't agree with them. The men who are so specific in there 'devils advocate' are secretly trying to judge your reaction to what they're saying and seeing how far you'll agree with them.

What a luxury to be working from hypotheticals and inexperience in difficult topics, that lead them to think they are pioneering thinkers, should go write a think piece in the recesses of reddit where other devils advocates can go back and forth with them till the end of time. Argument for arguments sake.

The kind of people who wait to talk, rather than listen, think and talk. Don’t engage with these people; love the sound of their own voice and it only confirms their belief in their faux intelligence via your involvement when they have already a previous argument (let’s not call it a discussion or a debate ; to them it’s an argument and they have already won) loaded from the last time they engaged another person.

Even if you don’t engage, they are presumptive enough to think it makes their point valid. You can’t win. So conserve your energy, smile and leave.

Have dealt with ‘devils advocate’ devils in my line of work & at university and the best way to disarm them is to not engage and you start to see how desperate they become, when you don’t and how much of their ego is placed in their pseudo intellectual theorist persona.

I am beyond fucking sick of waking up every day to news of yet another person being raped and seeing very blase dismissive BULLSHIT opinions arguing about the validity of the claim. Rape isn't penalized nobody is going to prison. A notes app or YouTube apology to FANS is the most 'justice' a victim will get. Internet culture has made it so that "both sides" get a say and thousands and thousands of rejects get to say, 'misandry and Feminism' are just as bad. Look at the news, TEENAGERS are killing and raping women almost weekly at this point. Things will continue to get worse until there are real fucking consequences for rape. I'm tired of women and children (boys and girls) being sacrificed because we want to all lives matter rape. Things have got to change. Lives are been damaged. Rapists need severe consequences

Devil's advocate types in general are a HUGE pet peeve of mine. It's like they are telling you they don't have the ability to rationalise morality on its own merits.

A "friend" of mine played devil's advocate when I told him about a frustrating experience where a man in no uncertain terms told me that men were better than women at everything because they just are. He said that the guy probably didn't mean "all men".

First of all, you weren't there. Secondly, you don't even know this guy so why are you defending him? And third, yes he absolutely meant all men.

One of my ex's thought it was comedy in one of his videos he made of himself in film school where he grabbed a womans breast with a quick muttered, "sorry". Immediately afterwards she slapped him in the shot and cringed away. He said that she consented to the scene. We had a long difficult talk about how that's still sexual assault in the viewpoint of the viewer. I also mentioned how terrifying it was to see as a woman constantly assaulted in that way for him to shrug it off as comedy and there is going to be uncomfortable moments in comedy and blah blah blah, excuses. He didn't seem to get it, he was so wrapped up in "his vision" that he failed to see the bigger picture.
