People lied to about the child's age shouldn't be prosecuted. Crimes are about motive.

Children who lie about their age to adults to initiate sexual contact should be fined (and yes I know the parents will pay, they should, their kid is trying to ruin someone's life), if not charged with entrapment or perjury if they're of the age to know better (13+ IMO).

Teachers are nowhere given close to his sentencing for raping boys in schools. They easily get probation, most of the time they are not registered as sex offender and their teacher's license is also not revoked. They are merely fired and continue teaching in another school under probation.

On top of that, rape of school boys is not classified as rape which is why they get lenient sentencing. Try finding stats on how many teachers sexually abuse school boys annually, all statistics on it have been taken down from the public domain and are no longer documented to keep the matter private and isolated from rape statistics.

The last stats were published in 2003 report. Even this was very hard to find and I was only able to find it because of the comparison with priests.

What parents are not aware of?

There is a "girl 17 and boy 18" age relationship scam going on from quite sometime now. What happens is, a girl and a boy both at the same age (say 17) comes into relationship. If the birth date of the boy comes before her, her feminist mother, classmates or she herself reports him to police about sexually grooming her daughter as soon as he turns 18. According to the law, he has to be convicted and registered as a sex offender if the text messages prove that he was dating her at 18.

If she had happened to share her any explicit photo to him when they both were minors, an additional charge is put on him for possessing child pornography if found in his phone at age 18. If he had sex with her after turning 18, he is straight up convicted for rape.

There is a law that protects the accused if they both were minor when the relationship starts but this law is not federal and might not be there in your country at all.

So teach your sons about this transition age 17 and be aware of the date of birth of his partner. Lying about age is already a problem but getting charged the next week from the day you turned 18 can destroy your life legally. Your scholarship will be gone. Of course she is immune to all this, rape law is much different and has much more clauses than law on sexual assault and only a male can be accused and charged with rape.

Who needs to be accountable and face the consequences: - the girl — lying about her age and singing up for a dating app that isn’t meant for her - the parents of the girl — as parents they need to be aware of their own daughter in what she’s doing but clearly they failed and should attend counselling sessions and learn about parenting, and also be held accountable for what this guy has gone through - the dating app — this is clearly a sign that not just this dating app, but other ones as well need to review their policies and tighten their security on who’s using their services because clearly someone lied about their age and caused another person to have a mark on their name for life. - judicial systems revolving around this situation needs to be reviewed as well instead of just doing things by the books. The systems will need to acknowledge and do things outside of the books if they want a better society, if not then they in no position complain about people turning to a life of crime and a spike in criminal population.

In one case I still can't get over, a girl in Florida used a fake drivers license issued by a government agency after using a stolen driving permit and social security card. I can't find the later article that showed his conviction. IIRC he got less than a year in prison, several years of probation, plus a long registration on the sex offender list. After moving to our town 20 years ago I went to the state website to see if any sex offenders were in the neighborhood. I found one young man and asked about him.
