Although this is a good post, the title does not say enough about its subject. This forces people to click and read before they can decide whether they are interested. It also makes searching impossible.

If everyone did this, the subreddit would become unusable. Moreover, it means that your post will fail to reach some readers because they won't know what it's about.

So please don't do it in future. Take the time to describe your link, and save the time of hundreds of other people.

When making a title, it's best to assume the reader doesn't know what you're talking about - but don't go overboard with every detail. Then check if there are any words you can cut out without losing any important information.

Three years ago I told my ex we would be better off if she got an abortion (apparently birth control failed) as we barely knew each other and were not in a financially appropriate place to have children. She said, "I just don't think I can do that." And broke up with me 3 weeks later. She was able to keep me away from my child for 6 months after he was born, and then I got put on supervised visitation once a week for two hours each time. Two months of that and I got 8 hours once a week unsupervised... Paid $75 a week for C.S. for those initial two months but that quickly got raised to $156 a week when I got unsupervised custody.

That $156 a week is insane when you're only bringing home 31k gross, and the courts don't seem to care what your expenses are. I ended up leaving my job due to college starting, and the stress it was dealing me... 4 months later and I still don't have a court date to change the amount of C.S., so now I'm looking at roughly $7400 owed in back pay. Meanwhile, DHHS froze my bank accounts, stole my car's title, as well as revoked my license, making it that much harder to get to school or even go to work if that was my intention. We are planning to sign the rights over, as she is married now and wants me the fuck out of her life, I agreed as I never got to form that bond with my son due to basically never seeing him, especially for the first part of his life.

Moral of the story, a man should be able to sign his rights away and not be financially burdened if he desires. I have this weird, half assed attachment to my son and I fear that a lot of men are in my position, creating these awkward family dynamics.

The State has an vested interest in ensuring a man gets financially obligated to paying child support. It has everything to do with the children not becoming “wards of the state”. This is why even men who’ve proven a child is not there’s can get held legally responsible for paying child support. The State doesn’t care.

Where I am, abortions that are not medically necessary are not routinely performed after 10 weeks. That is usually plenty of time for a woman to decided if she wants to be a mother or not under normal circumstances. Men should be allowed the same right to decide if they want to be a father as well, and should be allowed a similar amount of time to make that decision. Obviously there would have to be lawyers involved, and this only addresses one facet of the problem, but neither party should be forced to parent physically or financially when they aren't given an equal chance to opt out.

I find it a tricky thing.

If a man can just chose to not have a child and forgo any responsibilities in some instances it would force that child to grow up poor if the women kept it, but if she did abort it because the man bailed then she has to do something that is invasive and so on.

The thing is men and women arent the same, theu both have struggles but they are different in many ways.

Is men being able to sign away rights the solution? I say no.

The thing is no matter what you do bad people will abuse it.

I personally believe in "my nut my choice". If the dad wants to keep the child and the mom wants to abort then the dad gets it, if the mom wants it the mom gets it, if neither then it's aborted. The man has no obligation to pay if the doesn't also want the kid.

Men, if you had sex with a women and the roles were reversed and the baby would grow inside you and you wanted an abortion, would it make sense for the girl to be able to force you carry it and give birth?
